🏢 FACILITY MANAGEMENT: THE BACKBONE FOR NIGERIA’S PROSPERITY 🇳🇬
It was a rewarding experience attending the Association of Facility Management Practitioners of Nigeria (AFMPN) Conference at the Conference Center, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, alongside some of our students (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) of the Department of Estate Management, Lead City University (LCU).
The theme, “Facility Management: The Backbone for Nigeria’s Prosperity,” highlighted the vital role of effective FM in driving productivity, sustainability, innovation and national development.
We had engaging sessions on cogent subject matters such as effective integration of Artificial Intelligence into FM practice ,ISO standards and other emerging industry issues which provided valuable insights and practicable take homes for all delegates.
A major highlight of the conference for me was being inducted into the Registered Facility Manager (RFM) Cadre of the Association of Facility Management Practitioners of Nigeria (AFMPN), so kindly allow me reintroduce myself as Esv Adebare Abegunde, MNIVS, RSV, MCAI, MESM, RFM.

It was overall A rewarding experience of learning, networking and professional growth, To God be all the Glory 🙏.

“When Purpose Is Clear, Excellence Becomes Inevitable”

The Super Eagles’ victory over Algeria tonight was more than just a win—it was a lesson in purpose-driven performance. The team has been remarkably consistent throughout this AFCON competition and currently stands as the highest-scoring side with 14 goals.

However, Just a few months ago, this same team looked very different. What changed?

They found a collective purpose. Missing out on World Cup qualification created a renewed sense of responsibility and focus. The message was clear: they could not afford to let the nation down again. That clarity now fuels every tackle, every pass, every save, and every goal.

At some point, they trained behind closed doors, away from media distractions, the team became fixated on why they were in the AFCON. Under Eric Chelle’s leadership, the Super Eagles are no longer just a group of talented individuals—they are a team aligned by purpose.

Leadership lesson:
As professionals, leaders, and team heads, now that we are in 2026, it is imperative to clearly define our purpose. When purpose is clear, motivation becomes natural, alignment strengthens, and teams deliver results effectively and efficiently.

I had the privilege of attending the Annual Conference of the Association of Facilities Management Practitioners, Nigeria (AFMPN) 2025, held at the University of Lagos on 24th – 25th August 2025.
It was an inspiring gathering of industry leaders, professionals, and researchers, all focused on advancing the practice of Facility Management. The sessions were highly engaging, thought provoking and laddened with rich insights on innovation, sustainability, and the future of our profession. It was a pleasure to once again interact with the legends in the profession such as Esv Pst Stephen Ola Jagun (FNIVS, FRICS, CFM, IFMA Fellow, RSV), who is the BOT chairman of AFMPN and a Board member of ESVARBON, the regulatory body of Estate Surveying & Valuation profession.

Grateful for the opportunity to network, exchange ideas, and reaffirm the role of Facility Management in driving sustainable development and excellence in service delivery. Kudos to the Dr Olumide Aina led AFMPN for planning an impactful and successful conference.
I conclude with the parting thoughts of the immediate past president & Fellow of AFMPN , Mr Paul O Erubami in one of the sessions that goes “enough of talking, take action”.
It’s time for FMs to take action by implementing sustainable innovations, digital & smart initiatives into our day to day operations in our organizations.

“The future belongs to those who learn more skills and combine them in creative ways” — Robert Greene.

This truth is why God divinely placed in the hearts of youths @ Ibadan East Baptist Association Youth Fellowship to organize a skill acquisition program tagged Boot Camp and it indeed was an eye open and a successful program,
We were able to get trained on soft and hard skills ranging such as CV/Resume writing & key interview tips, Digital Literacy & tech skills, Communication & interpersonal skills, Bead making, Soap making, modern Chicken processing, live streaming &video editing, Photography, Baking & Basic music knowledge.
To further cap it up, our facilitators are also willing to further train students who still want to advance in this knowledge acquisition.
I want to use this medium to sincerely appreciate each and everyone who keyed into this vision and pursued it until it resulted into success, all executives who worked tirelessly, the Boot camp planning committee, Ibadan East Baptist Youths, all our sponsors, our mother association, The Ibadan East Association ,our Facilitators who didn’t even collect a dime from us 🙏🏼, we are grateful, God will definitely reward our Labour of love as we continue to play our part in God’s grand vision, plan and purpose.

Thank you and God Bless you,
