We are super sad to say that our cat, Dr. Kevin Whiskers, PhD, passed away this afternoon after a (mercifully) short bout of cancer.

He came into our lives only 2 years ago, but made us laugh immensely. Hopefully he enjoyed his very senior years with us too. He was the strangest cat... He begged for every scrap of human food like a dog, enjoyed eating hair and straw (then getting sick somewhere random), and slept in the most ridiculous positions. But he was also a big stuffed animal who was so gentle with Luke.

He traveled to Florida and upstate New York where he spent his final days on the St Lawrence River.

Forever thankful to @sarahtolcser and @bibliogato for helping us bring Kevin into our family. And to Town and Country vet in Ogdensburg for helping us this last week.

Though they will break your heart, senior cats deserve loving homes. Please consider adopting an older animal. We will miss this goofball immensely. by @adforsyth

It takes a village. And for the past 3 years The Cambridge School has been our village. So thankful for the friends we've met and the fun memories we've shared. Though everyone is seemingly going to a different Kindergarten, I know we'll always meet up at South Ardmore Park!! by @adforsyth

In 2001 a college friend offered me a chance to live and work in the Adirondacks for the summer. It was a chance of a lifetime and I spent the next 3 summers falling in love with Lake Placid and these mountains. I also saw my first Ironman that year. I was an overweight, former hockey HS player who couldn't run down the block and spent lots of time partying. I was in awe of these athletes and never imagined I'd join their ranks.

During the 5 years since my last IM (Kona 2019), I went through some triathlon burnout, made it through the pandemic, took a much more demanding job, and had Luke, our greatest achievement. Having done 9 fulls, I knew I wanted to make it a round 10. Ironman Lake Placid was celebrating 25 years and I'd been here for the early days.

Saturday morning I checked in and got bib #2001.

Completer mentality is so different than competer, but I still felt pressure. I hadn't put in half of the hours I used to leading up to this, am certainly not fit at the moment, but knew I'd done enough to hear Mike Reilly call me across the finish. I had a great swim, a fantastic 1st loop of the bike and then the totality of the day caught me. Isabella's words echoed the rest of the time, "In this moment, can I move forward, take the next step." The run was a slog/walk, but I finished. Somehow eeking out 13th in AG.

While I rediscovered that fire to find competitive fitness again, today I'm filled with gratitude for all that was Ironman Lake Placid 2024. taken in Lake Placid, New York by @adforsyth

Elvis has left the world...and we are heartbroken.

During the pandemic we helped @phillypaws by "fostering" him. When I walked in, I was presented many options as a first time foster; I said I wanted to see Elvis, the 14 year old cat. I was warned he would be released as a hospice cat - he was sickly thin, missing lots of fur and too fractious to be handled. I promised that we would give him a safe, comfortable place to pass, and 4+ years later, that promise was honored.

He was with us through the grief of losing our previous cat, Snowflake, the anxiety of a new baby (he spent every morning snuggled on my belly), and the birth of said child (mixed reaction, haha). He got to travel to more states than a lot of people, including hanging poolside in Florida this winter. He leaves us without pet friend for the first time in our life together.

PLEASE consider adopting an older animal. They have more to give than you know. We only had him 4 of his years, but he gave us so much. by @adforsyth
