Directing this made my inner child so happy! And that's because it was a heartwarming story about something most of us have experienced as kids i.e. endearing lab assistants in school who would go out of their way to help us students. All thanks to @chandanroy.7 who played the character with so much love that we all got reminded of our school days on shoot. Just see how he's managed to capture their honesty while still keeping the performance fun and fresh. And to @iamthesimwal who played the character of a helpless student so well that the very first time you look at him, you instantly connect with him. Look wise, my brief to the team was to make the film feel as cozy as sunlight does during winters. So that's what we did lighting and costume wise as well. Special kudos to @ajinkyapandit_dop and his team, and the entire crew and cast for making beautiful film happen. Directed a fun ad recently for @masters.union ! The challenging part in this film was to make the film mockingly overdramatic, yet keep its tone fresh and relatable for its target audience. And also find a way to do justice to how it was originally written and intended. We eventually came up with a way of combining 2-3 different visual and musical styles, ranging from over-the-top sets, performances, and camera movement; to melodramatic sound design and an amalgamation of two different types of music. All while making sure that all the different elements of the story are well understood in the time duration at hand. Directing @namitdas was a childhood dream come true! He added so much life to the scene and was such a pleasant person to work with. Thank you, brother ♥️ In terms of treatment, we wanted to treat this scene as though Namit's character is confessing his feelings of love to someone, which we eventually reveal is a cat. But since we couldn't find an actual cat to shoot this, we had to work with a stock footage. The challenge of that was to find a reverse angle that didn't give away the cheat. So we used some elements already present in the stock footage to our advantage. For instance, the cat's sitting on a thick branch; so we placed Namit next to a thick trunk of a tree so when the two shots are juxtaposed, it creates an illusion that they're sitting opposite each other. When it came to the look of the scene, the frame needed to have a certain softness and delicacy. We achieved that with firstly the way the camera behaves. For Namit, it was a slow, one-take shot which slowly tracks out eventually revealing who he is really talking to. We also decided to make use of the natural soft sunlight which lit up the background well. We added a couple of white benches behind to make the frame appear more aesthetic. And our choice of costume was such that inspite of having so much green in the background, your eyes fell directly on Namit and what he's saying. Lastly, in terms of music too, we went with a very soft track which set the right tone for the mood. The film was made as a part of @officialcipla campaign with @pocketaceshq (@filtercopy ). Directed this episode as a part of @tatatea.gold 's anthology series. At its core, the story was about a mother who has always prioritised her family over her own dreams. So our philosophy behind the look for the film was to ensure that she blends with the interiors of the house, as she has almost lost her own self while fulfilling her responsibilities as a homemaker. We achieved this by keeping the colour of production design elements and her costumes the same i.e. blues and greys. As the story progresses and she starts to pursue her own dreams, we see the colours in her costume change from those neutral blue tones to warm tones to visually depict her newfound sense of identity. This particular scene was about the closeness between the mother and daughter. So the scene begins with wide angles to establish the geography and blocking, and as the scene becomes more intimate, we see the mother and daughter in tight close-ups to bring an essence of closeness to their relationship. We also ensured that the scene comes to life by making it look like a very real day, so we re-created the morning chaos we've all experienced before an exam during our school days :)) Special shoutout to our wonderful actors who gave life to this story. @pallavikulkarni15 who was incredibly kind and easy to work with in addition to being such a brilliant performer, and @instasaurabh , @yashvimgori , @ravizaonarrival , who made the characters so real and relatable by adding their own nuances to them. A personal favourite from the show I directed for @battlegroundsmobilein_official . This scene features two incredibly talented actors @akshat8000 and @teekhabanao playing the cutest characters. While Tejas plays the friend who has always been unlucky in love, Akshat plays his guardian angel, who is trying to protect him from making a fool out of himself like always. They both got the brief so right! Tejas, who can't control his excitement is blushing like a newly wed. Akshat is trying to warn him off at every step. Love the energy and bond they both share in the scene. Not to forget @hectorr_009 who is actually not an actor but a gamer, but delivered such a nice performance always maintaining his character. Also, kudos to @ajinkyapandit_dop and @deshalokframes for having achieved such a nice look in the scene, and to @dey_priyanka_13 for editing it together so well. Also love the music and sounds design in this scene by @mozart_in_the_jungle . When Covid-19 hit, no shoots were happening and we were all confined to our homes. But that was a time when we specially needed to make fun videos so that people get atleast some form of fresh entertainment. Hence everybody at @filtercopy decided to do virtual shoots, which meant we'd have to direct the actors on video call telling them everything from where to place their mobile camera, how to adjust light, framing, and performances ofcourse. It was one of the toughest things we've ever had to do. And I remember being against the very idea of shooting online saying it can't be done. But then, we did end up shooting something and it turned out surprisingly good. This is one of those videos. It's called Awkward Moments with Mom and it is my most successful video yet when it comes to numbers, currently at a whopping 17Million views on YouTube! The major chunk of the credit goes to @ahsaassy_ and her mother @kulbirbadesron who were THE SWEETEST PEOPLE and the most cooperative when we shot this! As if a normal shoot isn't hectic enough and emotionally draining for actors, online shoots had another layer of placing the camera by yourself, shooting, then sending the clip to the team, wait for their feedback and notes, and then reshoot it to repeat the entire process all over again!? Only the most skilled and talented actors can achieve this feat of not only doing all of this, but doing it so damn well that everyone in our team was dumbfounded by their takes and dedication. Can never forget this shoot. Thank you, Ahsaas and Kulbir ma'am! For being such sports and giving it your everything. Directing this sequence is one of my fondest memories of shooting this show for BGMI! I remember how the entire crew was in splits while our extraordinary actors performed this to perfection. Physical comedy is often the trickiest thing to execute cuz you've to get the timing and the rhythm so right. And top of that we had the extra added later of them playing actual game characters which was also tough to do physically. Couldn't be more thankful to our very talented actors here! First and foremost, @jeettrivedi20 who researched the action so well, was diligent enough to rehearse it and send me videos, and absolutely killed it on set inspite of it being rushed. And then our very own @teekhabanao @manavsoneji and @ishubhamvyas who all gave such brilliant performances with their perfect coming timing that we knew on set itself that we had a wonderful sequence on our hands. Directing a full-fledged shaadi love story is something I could've never imagined myself doing, but little did I know that this would turn out to be one of my most cherished films ever. Ek toh we got so incredibly lucky with the cast here. Not only were their performances vibrant and full of color, each one of them also managed to look so stunning in frame even though we had a very hectic couple of days. Hats off to @esharkansara @sejalkumar1195 and @karanjotwani for giving this their everything, and making sure they looked full of energy inspite of it being a very hectic sched. Directing these three was nothing short of bliss since they understood direction so well, I barely had to do anything. And this scene here is so close to my heart. We tried recreating that innocent childhood like love between the two characters where Aarav (Karan) sees Pallavi (Esha) like nothing short of angel. We showed that visually with her costume and matching the lighting pallette with her costume as the camera looks up at her in admiration. And I just loooove the very intense eye contact these two have here! And how Samaira (Sejal) looking gorgeous in her bridal outfit looks onto these two, almost blushing herself. Directing this scene was both, a nostalgic throwback and a big challenge. The biggest hiccup was that this was made on a shoestring budget. We'd to shoot a school scene that had to be cheated in a small canteen area of an office. But all thanks to the lovely @richajaisinghani who tripled up as an Executive Producer, Production Designer, and Costume Stylist for the shoot. A very special mention to our beautiful cast @devishimadaan @nidhi_shetty13 @abhinavdhodapkar @shivam_vichare @gunjan_sainii_ @thereellifeofpratik for adding their own quirks to the characters! You can see, how everyone in the scene has a personality of their own and is busy doing their own things while the lecture's on. Also, much thanks to the DOPs @ishani_roy12 and @swag8am for shooting this so well inspite of all the constraints and creating that nostalgic look. Can't forget to talk about two of my most favourite people to work with, @prawnchilli the writer for this, and @vrindutva.101 the editor. They're both super sincere, care about their respective crafts, and bring so many insights to it that it always, always uplifts the final product.
