“Sometimes, to survive, we must be made something entirely new.”

What are you currently reading? Do you reread books?

Me & @admirerofbooks are buddy reading Immortal Dark by @tigestgirma and we are loving being back in this world!
We’re so glad we decided to reread the first book before reading the sequel because we clearly forgot so much especially how feral Kidan is. I love her so much!

If you love dark academia, vampires, enemies to maybe lovers who actively try to kill each other, a found family & a feral eldest daughter who is searching for her missing sister then you should pick up this book!

Hi guys 🥹

I've been working the past few weeks at a summer camp so its been too hectic to post anything.

I'm currently reading several books, one of which is the Jasad Heir by @shashemwrites It's so well written and Sylvia is one of the best characters I've read about. She's chaotic and has been described as a deranged goose (which I agree with). Her and Arin keep butting heads and I love it. The fanart out there is also gorgeous 👀

The sequel came out a couple days ago so I need to finish this up before I can continue and read the conclusion 💜

Have you read it yet? What did you think? (NO SPOILERS PLEASE 🥹) by @admirerofbooks

A few highlights of the last week and a half 😅 Its really nice and sunny and I have *actually* been reading. I'm currently reading a book I saw in a YouTube short and I'm really excited about it.

I've also binged a few shows and finally watched Stranger Things s4. I know I'm a year late but I think it's good I watched it now so I don't wait as long.

I'll be moving back home soon so I'm really excited and nervous about that 😅 and hopefully exploring more of the south before I do ☺️

Wow, I've unintentionally gone on a hiatus (what's new 😂) but I'm back!

I've not been reading a lot because of reasons 👁👄👁 BUT I have started reading 2 of my most anticipated books of the year. Wanna take a guess?

It's okay, I'll stop teasing- I'm currently buddy reading A Darkness at the Door by @booksbyintisar with @thetsundokuchronicles @stars.brite and @mycasadelibros 🤠 I say buddy reading but half of them have finished and I'm not even 50% through. I'll get there though 😅

I'm also reading The Stardust Thief by @chelsabdullah and it's an enjoyable read . I may have a teeny crush on Qadir 🙈

And finally, despite the fact that this update hasn't even mentioned the book photographed, I thought I'd tell you a bit about my latest craze: Elena Ferrante's The Neopolitan Novels. They take place from the 1950s and are based in Naples, following 2 friends through the decades. Its also a HBO show and I'm on book 3 out of 4. I'll update you on this if you're interested but it's one I'd recommend to fans of Pachinko and literary fiction. It's a riveting story about female friendship but also this almost frenemy relationship between the 2 girls, Lila and Lenu. by @admirerofbooks

Hi guys! Today's post is dedicated to Hotel Magnifique, an exciting YA fantasy comped as Caraval meets the Night Circus. Thanks to @pushkin_press I've got a copy ahead of it's UK release on the 5th May. If the synopsis appeals to you, make sure to check it out (I definitely will!)

Synopsis:

All her life, Jani has dreamed of Elsewhere. Just barely scraping by with her job at a tannery, she’s resigned to a dreary life in the port town of Durc, caring for her younger sister Zosa. That is, until the Hotel Magnifique comes to town.

The hotel is legendary not only for its whimsical enchantments, but also for its ability to travel—appearing in a different destination every morning. While Jani and Zosa can’t afford the exorbitant costs of a guest’s stay, they can interview to join the staff, and are soon whisked away on the greatest adventure of their lives. But once inside, Jani quickly discovers their contracts are unbreakable and that beneath the marvelous glamour, the hotel is hiding dangerous secrets.

With the vexingly handsome doorman Bel as her only ally, Jani embarks on a mission to unravel the mystery of the magic at the heart of the hotel and free Zosa—and the other staff—from the cruelty of the ruthless maître d’hôtel. To succeed, she’ll have to risk everything she loves, but failure would mean a fate far worse than never returning home. by @admirerofbooks

Hi guys! I thought I'd share a book I've been greatly anticipating for months now, to the point where I'm paralysed over actually picking it up and starting it 🙈

I did wonder if anyone else is like that- do you find it hard to pick up an anticipated book or are you able to crack it open and actually read it?

Thank you to @orbitbooks_uk for sending this ARC! I promise, I'll actually read it 😅 by @admirerofbooks

The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea book review

The Spirited Away vibes were strong in this one! Truly felt like the movie was playing in my head as I read this. In case you didn't know, Studio Ghibli has made some of my all-time favourite, comfort films. And this book was a true delight to consume. I found myself intrigued by the rich world-building, the characters and by the mysterious Sea God.

While it was a fun, light standalone book, there were times I found it to be moving too quickly- I would've liked to have seen more of Mina and Shin's relationship, before things took a serious turn. Call me old-fashioned, but I like my romances to be slow-burn. The book does start off quite slow but it picks up at the 80 page mark and you'll find yourself unable to put it down. The characters were definitely my favourite part of the book and the setting was gorgeous.

Thank you to @hodderscape for sending me an ARC of this book! by @admirerofbooks

Gorgeous gorgeous girls don't read their tbr books 🤡

If I had a pound for every time I picked up a book not on my tbr...I'd be pretty rich. I'll start sharing books I HAVE read as opposed to all the unread ones I have (they stare at me- granted they're not sentient and literally surround me in my room but my concern is still valid!)

I've been reading Vita Nostra, a translated book that is in equal parts speculative and fantastical. I'm not sure how I feel about it, because I'm genuinely confused whenever the magic is discussed. But at the same time, I want to know the reason for the plot. I've also begun Fortune's Fool, which I'm really enjoying. It's massive at 700 pages but I'm reading it on kindle and for whatever reason, I'm not as afraid.

And before anyone asks, no, I haven't read the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series 🤡

QOTD: What series are you hoping to finish this year?

For me, it's the sequel to A Song of Wraiths and Ruin, but also the Mistborn trilogy, the Winternight trilogy, First Law trilogy, the Rose and the Dagger, Redemptor, the last Percy Jackson book and Heroes of Olympus. I have a tendency of starting series but not finishing them 🙈

Hopefully, this'll change this year, or at the very least, I'll increase the number of completed series 👀 by @admirerofbooks

QOTD: What are your favourite tropes?

Props to @fairyloot and @hodderscape for this beautiful edition of Only A Monster by @vanessa.len_writes I'm so excited to delve into it 😍

This book features some of my favourite tropes including magical underworld, morally grey characters (the best kind) and enemy soulmates (not one I've read much of but it's still calling to my angsty heart).

If this sounds like it's up your alley, make sure to check it out! by @admirerofbooks
