In “Tactical Taxonomy”, uncertainty becomes a condition of seeing. Once part of Buxtehude’s 16th-century fortifications, the Marschtorzwinger served a defensive purpose that has long since disappeared. González reactivates this forgotten function by transforming the tower’s windows into filters of light, obscuring the outside world and reducing it to something imagined. As daylight penetrates the violet paper, attention shifts towards the room’s centre, where images and spatial relations challenge the reliability of visual evidence. The tension between concealment and exposure becomes a device for questioning how identities are constructed, protected, and made visible. Im historischen Marschtorzwinger Buxtehude begegnen sich zwei künstlerische Praktiken, die mit unterschiedlichen Medien und Rhythmen arbeiten: Kählerts Painting-Objects und Installationen treffen auf González’ Auseinandersetzung mit bewegtem Bild und Installation. Einleitende Worte: Matthew Partridge (Künstler/ Kurator) Veranstalter: Kulturförderung der Hansestadt Buxtehude Der Marschtorzwinger wird selbst zum Ort der Beobachtung. Was einst der Überwachung des Außenraums diente, richtet den Blick heute nach innen: auf Material, Bilder, Details und Prozesse des Sehens. Swen Kählert versteht seine Kunst als strukturalistische Landschaftsmalerei, die das Malerische in die dritte Dimension überführt (Gewinner Kunstflecken-Festival, Neumünster, 2014). Arnaldo Drés González untersucht das Verhältnis von Körper, Bild und Raum, indem er vertraute Formen durch Fragmentierung und Verschiebung in einen Zustand zwischen Wiedererkennung und Ungewissheit versetzt (Lobende Erwähnung altonale17, Hamburg). Beide Künstlern waren 2025 Teil des von Matthew Partridge kuratierten Kulturaustauschs „Topographies, Terracotta and Time“ zwischen Hyderabad (IN) und Hamburg (DE). 𝑳𝒂 𝑮𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒕𝒂 (2025) is an exploration of rupture and continuity, created through the intervention of drawing and painting on die-cut wooden fragments from Sudhakar Chippar’s workshop in Hyderabad, India. Its layered structure and central void evoke a symbolic cartography of the migrant experience, where fracture represents both uprooting and the possibility of reconstruction. The work invites a three-dimensional contemplation in which identity is perceived as a process in constant transformation, suggesting that in absence and fragmentation lies the potential for reinvention and redefinition. As part of the Indo-German cultural exchange at Banyan Heart Studios @banyanhearts.studios and the collective exhibition 𝙏𝙤𝙥𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙏𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨, 𝙏𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙤𝙩𝙩𝙖 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙏𝙞𝙢𝙚, curated by Matthew Partridge at Srishti Art Gallery @srishti.artgallery, my exploration takes place within these crossings. 📍 Srishti Art Gallery, Hyderabad 📅 On view until March 30, 2025 🕚 Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM In collaboration with the Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad @goethezentrum_hyderabad and with the support of the Hamburg Ministry of Culture and Media @bkm_hh. After a long period of intense work and production, we are finally ready to open the doors of our joint exhibition at the Marschtorzwinger Buxtehude. Tomorrow, Saturday, October 10th at 3:00 PM, we oficially inaugurate TAG FÜR NACHT. The title of the exhibition speaks to the rhythms and temporalities of human existence that do not develop in a single direction. Through this project, we seek to inhabit and decipher simultaneous realities, operating in the zones of transit, interruption, and translation between the analog, the digital, the biological, and the media-driven. The opening will feature an introductory speech by our friend, Hamburg-based curator, writer, and visual artist Matthew Partridge. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the entire team of the Kulturförderung of @hansestadt_buxtehude for their support and for the invitation to intervene in this historic venue. We are very excited and look forward to hearing your reactions, readings, and reflections on the work we put together. I’m honored to announce that my work 𝙏𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙨: 𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙒𝙞𝙣𝙙 (2024) has been officially selected for the WNDX Festival of Moving Image in Winnipeg, Canada. 📍 Rachel Browne Theatre 📅 Saturday, October 4 | 9 PM Program: Open Call 4: Notes on Rememory 🇨🇦 Canadian Premiere My film explores spectral human forms in perpetual metamorphosis—embodying the tension between light and shadow, enslavement and freedom. These figures transform into a dreamlike portal, leading to the contemplation of an enigmatic oil drilling machine, suspended in time, echoing both past and future worlds. The program 𝙉𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙍𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙮 explores the act of remembering as a dynamic and complex process, where repressed moments resurface. My work will be projected alongside a curated selection of other films that similarly delve into memory, shared histories, and the possibility of rewriting and reshaping narratives.
