Okay sorry for the mic noise and for looking less than profesh… but COME THE EFF ON! It is so EASY and COSTS NOTHING to achieve equal representation for male and female roles in animation. And guess what?! - it’s just as freaking easy to include non-binary representation too! This is frustrating and only getting worse?! Why the hell do we expect women and non-binary people to be treated LIKE EQUAL HUMANS when our children’s entertainment doesn’t even represent them equally??? WE CAN DO BETTER. We’re glad to announce that, with support from Ontario Creates and the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF), we’re bringing a delegation of five disabled creatives to VIFF 2026: Adrienne Lindsay, Ana Pacheco, Helene Taylor, Kagan Goh, and Lauren Saarimaki.

DSO Executive Director Winnie will also join the panel Beyond Access: Building Healthier Film Communities on October 5, which will explore the intersection of accessibility, mental health and workplace culture in film and television.

A project I’m incredibly proud to have worked on has recently made its way into the world -and if you’ll indulge me, I’m going to brag about it (and its phenomenal cast) just a little.
🌈 THE DAY YOU BEGIN - I had the enormous privilege of casting and voice directing this beautiful animated special, adapted from Jacqueline Woodson’s book.
Authentic, inclusive casting has been central to my work from the very beginning, so helping find the voices of these characters - and then watching these remarkable actors bring them to life - was incredibly special.
Huge thanks to @jacqueline_woodson @pbskids @atomiccartoons @uwe.rafael.braun for trusting me to help bring this very special story to life.

The band is back together!! 🎙️💛

@rmer and I are bringing MISTRESSCLASS back for a whole weekend of animation VO goodness - from “what the hell do they actually want from this audition?” all the way to “okay, I booked it… now what?” 😬

We’ll spend Saturday online digging into auditions, choices, characters, and callbacks, then Sunday we’re heading into the studio to PLAY. 🎧

Two days. Two directors. Lots of mic time. Lots of individual attention. Probably some questionable character voices. Definitely snacks.

Surprised myself: daily
Almost fell off a cliff: twice
Walked/hiked: 200 km
Climbed over barbed wire: once
Learned: SO MUCH
Read: two books
Had to put on or take off clothing because of a weather change: 100x/day
Casting calls put out: one
Bought: 4 Irish tweed bookmarks, 3 shirts from a Derry charity shop, and one gay bird pin from Rathlin island
Postcards bought and not sent so will be handed to their intended recipient in person: 6
Clothing ripped on craggy sea rocks: one pair leggings
Things lost: one Derry Girls rainbow pin
Got in car with stranger who took me on an impromptu tour of local Ballycastle cemeteries: once
Learned about Irish troubles/history through: one walking tour, two audio tours, one museum, one gaol, one audiobook, two na guinesses, & many conversations
Had someone buy the whole pub a round: once
#1 thing I wish I would have brought: waterproof backpack cover

We’re so grateful to everyone who joined our webinar last week or sent us a donation - we raised $12,000 for @wckitchen’s LA wildfire relief! Almost 300 folks tuned in to hear us talk about auditioning in the self-tape era. Some key takeaways:
1. A good performance outshines any wonky set up issues
2. Being YOU is the best way to ‘stand out’
3. Community is important - go to class, support each other, stay in contact with your agent and surround yourself with cheerleaders, not naysayers!
4. Hollywood North is incredible, and we’re sending love and money to our friends and colleagues south of the border by @adrienne_lpl

Creatives had a rare opportunity to dive into scenes that challenged them to bring their personalities, creativity, and vocal skills to life. Adrienne’s insights were invaluable, and watching everyone step up, engage, and truly shine was beyond inspiring! 🎙️🙌
