We share 97% of our DNA with a great ape that has never killed one of us and yet we have killed nearly all of them. Mostly through habitat destruction and the illegal wildlife trade. This summer over 60% of their remaining habitat burned in the terrible fires in Borneo and Sumatra. If we can figure out how to collaborate with the governments and wonderful local hero’s who rescue and rehabilitate orangutan, we will surely learn to live better as human beings too. See @theorangutanproject and enjoy the Wild Lessons of @leifcocks new book.

I had the BEST time attending VIFF as a DSO Delegate. It was such a wonderful experience getting to connect with amazing like minded creatives! I also had the opportunity to attend the screenings of The Lion Does Not Concern Himself and participate in my first ever Q&A at a festival. None of this would have been possible without the @disabilityscreen so thank you!

This year has been particularly difficult. A mixed episode completely took over my life from mid October 2025 to the beginning of August 2026. You read that right….✨10 months✨. I needed some good news and the whole experience affirmed that even though I have a screw..or two..loose I do belong in the industry and I can be a leader despite it being hard and difficult at times.

Also my back phone camera doesn’t work so the only photo I took from the trip is in the last slide when I briefly stopped into a cat cafe in between screenings. But believe me Vancouver is beautiful and we should all move there.

We’re glad to announce that, with support from Ontario Creates and the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF), we’re bringing a delegation of five disabled creatives to VIFF 2026: Adrienne Lindsay, Ana Pacheco, Helene Taylor, Kagan Goh, and Lauren Saarimaki.

Get to know our delegates and explore a selection of disability-focused films screening at this year’s festival! Simply click the link in our bio and choose “DSO Updates”.

DSO Executive Director Winnie will also join the panel Beyond Access: Building Healthier Film Communities on October 5, which will explore the intersection of accessibility, mental health and workplace culture in film and television.

VIFF is a partner festival in our Screen Festival Accessibility Program. Their work towards improving accessibility practices at their festival and in their year-round operations contributed to the development of our recently launched guide, “All-Access Pass: A Roadmap for Festival & Screen Industry Event Accessibility”. Download it for free at dso-orphe.ca/all-access.

See you in Vancouver!
