In Level 1 of the Plant Health Pyramid, plants increase both the quantity and quality of sugars they produce through photosynthesis.

➡️ By reducing the ratio of non-reducing sugars, the quality of the plant's root exudates improves.
➡️ This helps determine the soil microbial profile and and develop disease-suppressive soils.

🦠 When they reach Level 1, plants can become resistant to soil-borne pathogens, including verticillium, fusarium, rhizoctonia, pythium, and phytophthora.

Plants require 5 minerals for optimal photosynthesis: Mg, N, Fe, Mn, P.
➡️ Magnesium and Nitrogen are critical components of the chlorophyll molecule.
➡️ Iron is needed to assemble chlorophyll.
➡️ Manganese is required for water hydrolysis: the first step in photosynthesis.
➡️ Phosphorus is the essential element in ATP, which is needed in abundance to metabolize all those sugars.

Stay tuned for Level 2!

How is regenerative agriculture different?

Quite simply, it puts the FARMER first.

If something bills itself as regenerative, it should:
✅ meet farmers where they're at
✅ offer solutions that are best for the farmer
✅ provide a path towards independence

Regenerative Agriculture offers a slew of benefits—ecological, horticultural, societal, financial—but few are as urgent today as helping farmers get off the hamster wheel.

Here's more on what "regenerative agriculture" means to us at AEA: comment REGEN by @advancingecoag

How can annual ryegrass break up hardpan and fragipan?

Lloyd Murdock has spent the last decade researching this.

Lloyd helped make no-till wheat standard practice in Kentucky, contributed research behind the soil penetrometer, and developed an algorithm for variable-rate nitrogen in wheat. He has been at the University of Kentucky for over 40 years as Extension Soils Specialist, and is now Professor Emeritus at the UK Research and Education Center.

On the #RegenerativeAgriculturePodcast, Lloyd and @realJohnKempf discuss:

➡️ Why fragipans leave many eastern U.S. crops growing on just two feet of soil.
➡️ How annual ryegrass roots break down the fragipan at 3/4 of an inch to 2 1/2 inches per year.
➡️ A farmer who broke through more than a foot of fragipan with only four ryegrass crops in seven years.
➡️ How most roots stall above 300 psi of soil resistance, and why annual ryegrass can push through.
➡️ Why subsoiling only pays when more than 30% of a field has significant compaction.
➡️ How Kentucky’s state average wheat yield climbed from the 40s to 70 bushels by doing small things right.
➡️ How chlorophyll sensors and a high-nitrogen reference strip help fine-tune wheat nitrogen rates.

We got these photos a couple years ago from a grower in Brazil. Can you guess which plant got AEA's Regenerative Soil Primer?

What does ag have in common with a sports team?

Our focus during the "offseason" is on getting the soil ready for next year's crop, as Senior Agronomist Jeffrey Kleypas explains. We do that by using Soil Primer or Revenant Charge, which:
✅ Unlock soil nutrients
✅ Activates soil biology
✅ Reduces next year's fertilizer costs
✅ Digests crop residue

I was thinking of removing this problem clump for awhile, but thought I would wait and see what Pinion and nutrient foliars could do for it.

Glad I did! 🍌

TLDW - I applied three foliars of Pinion, MacroPak and MicroPak from @advancingecoag and top dressed with compost in the spring 👍

Comment “rates” and I’ll DM you the 0.25 acre rates I use for a four gallon sprayer.

** I’m an employee of the company that makes these products, and a happy customer 😊

"A bit of a light year" at M.G. Hurd and Sons in the Hudson Valley.

Looks like a lot of apples to us!

We started working with this orchard this year, and have been tremendously impressed. They've got precision nutrition dialed in: sap analysis, AEA Precision Blends, foliars, Pinion . . . the works (you may have seen our video of their pivot system over high-density semicircle trellises a couple of months ago).

Check out @HurdsFamilyFarm for apples, pick-your-own, and fall fun 2 hrs north of NYC.

Today is National Farmer's Day, one of our favorite holidays of the year.

Today we celebrate all the farmers we work with who are committed to constant innovation, challenging the status quo, healing soil, and revitalizing our agriculture.

Farmers are the bedrock of our society, and we are honored to work alongside you.

"I'll put the taste of our potatoes up against anyone else."

When customer say year after year that your potatoes taste the best . . . at a certain point you have to believe them.

Brian and Brad Igl of Igl Farms in Antigo, WI describe the customer feedback they've gotten on their certified organic potatoes, and a few of the practices they've used to help get there. by @advancingecoag

If you’ve ever juggled 4-5 jugs (or more), you’ll appreciate custom blends!

AEA Custom Blends are made for your crop based on the crop growth stage and nutrient uptake info that we get from sap tests, along with water and soil tests, and field observations.

This is how our agronomists make precision nutrient management easier and more cost-effective for farmers.

Apply only the nutrients that the crop needs, at the time that they make the biggest impact on yield and quality. Without the mixing and measuring!

If you want to learn more, please click the link in bio or send us a DM to get in touch! 👋
