yesterday was one month without you, Mom.

Estoy haciendo lo mejor que puedo para honrarte y cuidar a mis hermanxs y a mí,
y a veces todavía te busco
pero otras veces tu sonrisa aparece en la de mis hermanas.

The best the universe can offer right now are sunrises and sunsets
šŸŒ…šŸŒŒ
and I’m receiving them with gratitude.

In honor of my mom Linda
I’ll be participating in Walk MS Tucson on March 7, 2026.

If you feel called to support by walking, donating, or sharing
it means more than I can say.

I haven’t been able to post about Sydney šŸˆā€ā¬›ļøšŸ•Š here yet, because how do you distill a whole soul into one picture, one video, one caption? Every sunset since 7/11 has felt both sharper in its beauty and heavier in his absence.

Life has shifted in other ways, too. My mother’s care needs have deepened with the later stages of M.S. and dementia, and I’ve been reworking my days to be more present for her, my younger siblings, and my family in this tender time.

Thank you to everyone who’s given me patience, compassion, and space while I find my footing. Your kindness has been felt more than you know.

There’s is some good news šŸ¤žšŸ½ and new collaborations on the horizon šŸŒ… I hope you’ll stay with me as I weave together my work, my family, and the next chapter of this life šŸ’š by @advanturesofash

The news lately has been overwhelming—and on top of the day-to-day, I’ve been managing my mom’s care. She’s stable, resting after a minor surgical debridement, and we’re sorting out next steps for her wound care and rehab.

Yesterday, someone asked me, ā€œHow did she get this way?ā€ I had to take a breath before I answered:
ā€œOver time. Not all at once. MS can lead to dementia-like symptoms.ā€

People don’t realize how close any of us are to needing support—how disability is the only minority you can join at any point in your life, without warning.

In this video Stephanie spoke with such clarity about universal human dignity and what it really means to be a good person in times like these.

We’re watching folks try to defund DEI while so many of us are navigating systems that were never built with us in mind. But accessibility isn’t optional—it’s essential. And it doesn’t just help the disabled community. It benefits parents, travelers, workers—everyone.

šŸ’”
Curb cuts help parents with strollers, travelers with luggage, and workers with delivery carts.

Family medical leave supports new parents, caregivers, and folks recovering from illness.

Captions benefit tired parents, travelers in loud spaces, and workers in shared offices.

Access isn’t extra and —it’s essential.

So thank you, Stephanie for putting words to the mental load so many of us are carrying.

We need more of this kind of leadership—rooted in compassion, truth, and care for one another.

May we do better and be better as people.

On March 31st, I celebrated another year around the sun, reflecting on the journey I’ve traveled as a neurodivergent individual—someone who was never expected to ā€œmake it.ā€

But today, I’m hearing RFK Jr. make deeply hurtful, uninformed statements about autism. He said that autistic children ā€œwill never pay taxes, hold a job, write a poem, go on a date,ā€ and that autism ā€œdestroys families.ā€

Let me be crystal clear:

I am autistic.
I hold multiple jobs.
I write poetry.
I’m in loving relationships.
I help raise my sister.
I advocated for my disabled mother and became her Power of Attorney.
I even jumped out of a damn airplane.
And yes—I pay taxes, too. (Did/does he?!)

I’ve built a life grounded in care, grit, and purpose. I did it unmedicated, navigating CPTSD, chronic illness, systemic neglect, and a world that was never designed for people like me.

Autism didn’t destroy my family—ableism, erasure, and generational trauma did.

RFK Jr. may believe that autism is a death sentence for a family’s future, but that’s just ableism talking. It erases every single autistic adult who is thriving in this world. It erases me. It erases us.We are not broken.
We are not burdens.
We are not statistics for you to twist.

We are poets. Parents. Partners. Professionals.
We are survivors. Fighters. Builders. Creators.
We are your neighbors, your coworkers, your loved ones.
And we are not going anywhere.

As a Licensed Massage Therapist, I witness every day how diverse human experiences and bodies shape the healing process. Autistic individuals, just like anyone, bring their unique strengths and perspectives to every part of life. The world wasn’t designed for us—but we design our own spaces, our own success. To every neurodivergent person who has been underestimated, spoken over, or cast aside:
Don’t believe them. Believe us.

We are not your tragedy—we’re your wake-up call.

March 31st has always been my day, but it’s also Trans Day of Visibility—and I can’t think of a better crowd to share it with. Celebrating alongside people who live loudly, proudly, and authentically, despite everything the world throws at us, is powerful.

I don’t usually make a big deal about my birthday, but looking back, I’ve fought for and built a life my 17-year-old self never could’ve imagined. My original dream was to be a massage therapist in 2011, but life had other plans. I had to rewrite my path over and over

I left home after being disowned.

I helped raise my 3 sisters

I became my mom’s advocate and POA, fighting for her care.

I fought for guardianship with my sister to keep our family together.

I worked multiple jobs to survive.

I built knowledge in anatomy, kinesiology, and more without ever stepping into a traditional college classroom.

I learned to navigate life without driving, which has been one of my biggest personal challenges.

I camped in the desert wilderness for a week with my closest people and thousands of neighbors.

I jumped out of an airplane.

Life tried to knock me off my path many times, but I refused to stay lost. I found my way back. I finally became the Licensed Massage Therapist I set out to be over a decade ago. And even though I’ve always said, ā€œI can do it myself,ā€ I’m beyond grateful for the incredible community that shows up for me—whether I ask for help or not.

A huge thank you to my chosen family who’ve been by my side through it all. A special, endless shoutout to Nyx—my nesting partner for being my rock, helping me get from place to place and showing endless patience with my time blindness. He’s been there for every challenge, every success, and every moment in between, and I couldn’t have made it this far without him.

As if all of this wasn’t challenging enough, I also found out in 2019 that I’m ND—ADHD & autism—and I’ve navigated this journey unmedicated. But it’s just one more thing I’ve faced head-on and embraced as part of who I am.

Here’s to 32. Here’s to rewriting, reclaiming, and refusing to quit. Here’s to the trans and ND community every single person still here, still fighting. You are Seen by @advanturesofash

šŸ«¶šŸ½ Honoring My Mom & MS Awareness Month

March is MS Awareness Month, and for me, this isn’t just a cause—it’s personal. My mom has been living with MS for years, and this past month alone has been a tough one. She’s faced multiple dental surgeries, consults for medical equipment, rehab assessments, MRIs, ulcer care, and now IV antibiotics for wound care. It’s a lot. But if you ask her how she’s doing? She’ll still say "Okay" and find a way to smile. She is gearing up to get back to PT once these antibiotics do their job. That’s the kind of strength that MS warriors show every single day.

MS is unpredictable. Some days are better than others, but the stiffness, pain, and fatigue never fully go away. As an LMT, I see firsthand how gentle, adaptive bodywork can bring comfort—not just physically, but as a reminder that the body, even when struggling, still deserves care and compassion.

And yet, on days like today, it feels like I spend more time on calls and emails with her care team, insurance, and appointments than I do simply enjoying her presence. Being an advocate is necessary, but I wish it didn’t have to come at the cost of quality time together. I want more moments of just being—not just managing.

This journey isn’t easy, but my mom reminds me every day that strength isn’t about avoiding struggles—it’s about facing them with grace and determination. To everyone living with MS: you are seen, you are valued, and you are stronger than you know.

To all the MS warriors out there: I see you. I honor your resilience. And to the caregivers and loved ones standing beside them, your support means everything. With the rest of this month, let’s raise awareness, share stories, and advocate for continued research and accessible care. If you know someone with MS, consider asking how you can support them. Sometimes, a listening ear, a warm touch, or just acknowledging their journey can make all the difference.

Interesting article: "The leadership organizations or the massage therapy community as a whole would need professional help create this master plan. We would need external leadership experts to coordinate the master plan development — because it is obvious that we have been unable to do it ourselves, at least in the 40 years I have been involved.
The plan cannot be based on special interests or individual agendas. We have to look at realities and approach the vision logically.
But we won’t have a plan such as this until we have unified leadership speaking with one voice to put the puzzle together.
We’re All Part of the Problem
There must be more transparency. Maybe, individually, the organizations are doing productive work, but the general population of massage therapists either does not know about the efforts, could not find the information, determine if the information was valid, or if it was being used by government bodies when making policy.
The problem lies with more than the fragmentation of the various organizations within the massage therapy community. It lies with us — all of us — who will not work together to find common ground.
I believe it is too late for our current crisis. I am confident we will muddle through, but we better prepare for the future. I am reminded of this quote by Maya Angelou, ā€œDo the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.ā€
The overarching flaws in leadership and governance have been exposed by the pandemic. All of us are part of the problem. We must not deny it any longer." Sandy Fritz
