I've been waiting to do this pumpkinhead photoshoot ever since I first saw it on the gram. 🎃

I've always had a reason that came up why it didn't get done and finally, this year, I made no excuses and we had such a good time- it might have to become a yearly Instagram tradition.

While the unique spin that I had in mind for this didn't work out due to weight of the pumpkins and lack of planning/preparing, I can save that one for another year 🙃

Thank you @elisangela__amorim for risking spinal injuries with me carrying 30+ lb pumpkins around on our head for funsies. 🤣

Thank you @_this___guy for humoring us and snapping our photos 🫶🏽📷

Thank you @burtspumpkinfarm for the fabulous pumpkin selection and @fausettfarms1 for our backdrop! 😍

No hair was harmed in the creation of this video, but I may need a chiropractor 😆 next time, smaller pumpkins! 😬

I just got back from volunteering in Western North Carolina and a lot of people were asking me about my experience there. For context..
.
North Carolina basically raised me. I was born and raised in Georgia, but North Carolina is my resting place. 80% WNC 20% TN holds so many core memories for me. That's where I became a true hiker. Not just a 5 mile walk in the woods with tennis shoes, but a gotta have the right gear, no man left behind, leave no trace hiker!
.
North Carolina (TN) is where I hold so many memories of winter cabin trips with my Couchsurfing family.
.
It's where I broke my 6 mile record and went on my first 11 mile hike (Yellow Mountain Firetower). It's where I went on my first 3 night backpacking trip (Art Loeb) and first official trip with all the right gear. It's where I learned to cold plunge (skinny dip, rainbow falls, any waterfall in could get in!) It's where I went on my first solo backpacking overnighter (siler bald).
.
NC is where I enjoyed many beautiful views of fall, where I continued to increase my hiking capacity and sometimes accidentally push myself too far. Where I hiked 13 miles of Grandfather mountain and returned many many times. Where I went on my first below zero hiking trip (Roan Highlands), somewhere I've gotten to see in every season. Its where I saw my first wild ponies (okay okay, that's technically just over the border in Virginia, but same area..).
.
It's where I ran for solace time and time again with trust backpacking couchsurfing friends to heal my soul and heart and mind after two toxic relationships in a row left me feeling worthless and insane. It's where I proved my limiting thoughts wrong and hiked my very first 23 miles in one day hike (Linville Gorge).
.
I cannot count the times I've visited it's beautiful waterfalls and mountains, I made this reel in a hurry and know it's missing so many other memories like Mount Mitchell and my friends AT send off. But NC is special to me. It is truly a piece of me when I sit back and look through my memories and remember what I've been up to in the last 10 years. Continued in comments...

Dear Colombia, thank you. This doesn't even begin to skim the surface of all the content I have from living in Colombia for the last 3.5 months of my life, let alone hit the tip of the iceberg of what Colombia has to offer.
.
What a trip. What an unexpected delight. If I told you the story of how I ended up in Colombia this year, it would take forever. I find it all so strange to be an adult and realize that literally no one else is going to ever know your full experience & the true depth of your inner world except you & even if you burst wide open & shout from the rooftops your whole story, people can only relate, empathize & imagine.
.
Colombia, I hope to post more about my stories & experiences here, but oh thank you so much for being my space to embrace me once again. Thank you for teaching me how to live again, to open up my heart again, to rest & be okay with the RIGHT NOW. To be present. Thank you, I thank you Colombia when it's really me that I must thank & you the place that allowed me to do so.
.
At risk of sounding narcissistic when I say it's ME that I should thank, I do have to let myself be proud of me for once. In the most humble way, I am so proud of me. Colombia was the result of 10+ years in the making of emotional inner work. Past versions of me couldn't do it, couldn't believe in myself, couldn't believe in opportunity or future. And at last after falling countless times, I brushed myself off one more time & stepped onto a plane again for a 4 month adventure that I had no idea I was getting into.
.
And now I think I can officially say for perhaps the first time authentically that I love myself again. Finally.
.
Typical me not really posting til I've left the area I am in, unlike most people who edit and post immediately. I wanted to share, but I am often too lost in the moment to know where to begin with an IG post.
.
Might share more later or might end up like many of my other trips where I intended to post so much, but life ran away with me and I never posted but a crumb. I have decided to accept myself as is and post as I please.
.
Here's to posting so sporadically and delayed that the world may never know where I currently am. 🤪## by @advenchatera

A typical day in the life of Lizzie. 😜
.
Normally you guys see me post a lot of travel photos and sunset photos and think that I am just this world traveling adventure person who's never around.
.
That's what I hear from people sometimes. And I don't want to argue that I am not a travel loving adventurous person, I just want to be real with you guys because like, I don't know about you, but social media makes it easy to compare yourself with other people and think that their life is so amazing and yours just SUCKS. Before social media, there was magazines telling you how to be, especially for us women. And I'm sure, for men there was magazines telling you how to be successful. Women to be beautiful and men to be successful. And now there's pressure on both sides to be all of the things.
.
That is, if you compare yourself to somebody else's Instagram feed. So today, I thought I would just share with you the more realistic version of what my current reality is like.
.
Where I want to be with my life is married, traveling the world, helping other people on a big scale. And I thought I would have all of those things by now. At some point, the fact that I don't have those things started messing with my self-esteem.
.
"i should have that by now." "I should be working." "I should be doing more with my day." "I should be sleeping." I should I should I should. Our brains like to shit on us quite a bit when we have all these stories about how what is happening right NOW is not okay.
.
Anyone relate? Today I had a long day of procrastinating and getting distracted. Something that normally frustrates the hell out of me. But I'm currently in a coaching workshop undefined thingamabobber group full of inspiration and supportive lovely souls who are all working on the fact that everything is okay. No matter how much you got done today. No matter how pretty you are today. No matter how frustrated you are today. No matter how depressed you are today. No matter how excited you are today. All of it's okay. All of it's acceptable. You matter. You are not defined by what you do on a day-to-day basis. You are worthy. And everything is okay.

A cool thing happened sunday. I have to momentarily interrupt my posts I planned to share from my California trip to share a RIGHT NOW thing.
.
I've had a bit of a shit show rough time with accepting some realities lately. Lots of things happened that really triggered my scarcity fears, my rejection sensitivity dysphoria, and a lot of old brain patterns I'm learning how to overcome. I won't get into details or this will become the post that never ends, but I was not in a good place, slowly getting worse for the last few weeks. Functioning, but having a lot emotional swings, a lot of shame, a lot of anger, a lot of wanting to run from my emotions because they were just SO big. I was in an “I can't” spiral of unworthiness. There was an I can't for everything.
.
Today something cool happened. The other day, I noticed there was ecstatic dance today and felt a big desire to go because it's been a while and I really could use some RELEASE. My thoughts: why are they having it outside right now? It's too hot. I can't go anyways because I have to clean my Airbnb that day.
.
I let it go and chose to clean my bnb because earning money is important to me right now and somehow I was really happy about fixing up a lot of things at my property (normally I'm grumbly about all the work and the lack of reward I've gotten from it and resent going) because I was grateful to have some income to come back to after 20 days in Cali overspending.
.
At 3:30, I was starting to get tired/bored/lose interest and have the brain go down the usual negative neuropathways and I happened upon an update from Sol Dance that they changed the time to 4 pm! They changed the time? I got momentarily excited, but quickly beaten down with the same can't thoughts. Ready to see how the Universe worked for me?

I dropped my phone in Lake Tahoe. 😣
.
It's been two weeks since California and I haven't even shared a photo yet. I barely even shared any photos of my Washington trip a month ago. A lot has been going on for me in my personal life lately and it's been hard to make time for photos. California turned into a different experience than anticipated. I was gone for 20 days, that's the longest trip I've taken in 8 years. I was gone in 2019 about that long to Italy, I suppose, but even so that's a good 4 years back and was quite a failure.
.
I didn't even realize I was planning a trip to Cali that was so long, it just kind of happened. And a lot just kind of happened. And I didn't have a plan because I was so busy between the two trips. I pushed myself to go and just like almost every other experience where I force something, things happen and it becomes a learning experience. I am still processing California. Not only did a lot of trip related things come up, but a lot of things in my personal life popped up during my trip and trying to process those while managing to plan my trip while living my trip and trying to enjoy it was challenging. I learned (and am still learning) a lot.
.
One of the things I learned is how important photos are to me. I'll start with that story and hope that this won't end up being my only post about California because I have so many photos to share.
.
I dropped my phone in Lake Tahoe. It's the first time I've ever drowned my phone. I was desperate to take a sunset photo from some rocks about a 20 foot swim from me. I was sure I could pirate it up and put my phone in my mouth and make it there without getting my phone wet. I was wrong. Panic ensued as I watched the phone slowly fall to a rock below. A friend pointed out it landed on the rock, but I couldn't see it and I just flailed reaching for it in desperation before it fell into the cracks below. I was in shock. We froze to shivers and exhaustion diving and feeling and trying to find it, but the water was growing darker with every passing second of the sun lowering into the horizon.

((Google photos movie editor surprised me again with a good outline for this video! ☀️ And I added to it. And then it broke and lagged and I posted a bad video and had to take it down and restart and edit the whole thing myself in another app!!! Too many hours later... Voila! ))
.
Started a cold plunge trend this summer. It started out as just being excited someone else on a camping trip enjoyed jumping in natural bodies of water as much as me, no matter how cold. And it ended up becoming a PNW tradition.
.
I usually think my Instagram posts need to be something with deep meaning and that something thats just "fun" to me isn't good enough. But I continue realizing that having fun IS MORE than good enough and IS necessary for good mental health! And fun can have meaning. And meaning can be created!
.
Cold plunges for me recently have created meaningful friendships and meaningful moments, as well as promoted self care, fun and discipline.
.
I've plunged 16 times over the last 13 days and had such a blast jumping into beautiful lakes and rivers and the ocean. Sometimes alone, sometimes together. More fun together, more discipline alone and in the boring bath tub.
.
I've needed fun so bad after the crazy last year I've had and I co created it with the incredible people I surrounded myself with.
.
Not only did my muscles thank me and reward me with enough energy to hike everything I wanted to (but didn't expect to be able to) this past trip, but my heart and mind thank me for giving them good times and positive experiences to look back upon and remind myself of when my negative neuropathways try to take back over!
.
Thank you to you beautiful souls for being part of my journey and creating these lasting memories with me. I love you all! 😍☀️🌊
.
Keep plunging!

Trying to get back in touch with my heart and creative side by spending some time in nature this past weekend. Plans i originally signed up for sounded too intense for the shape my body was in and I was pretty grumpy about it, so I tried to make the best of it by taking an opportunity to rest and reflect and be open to new things, as well as do a little inner work on my achy creative heart.
.
Took intentional little clips of things I'd often walk by unnoticed, with the attitude of being tired of GA and wanting to be in bigger and better mountains, but just trying to make peace with where I am at.
.
I allowed Google Photos to edit the clips together, thanks to my friend @hwusperfect showing me that that was a thing.
.
In my journey of overcoming perfectionism, I had to let go of my perfect idea of a weekend and allow what showed up to be allowed. My heart is still thawing and learning to trust again, trust that it's safe to be creative and expressive and not be perfect.
.
Welcome to a tiny peace of East Coast nature.

Fall leaves are a few of my healing things.
.
I've been drowning lately. This year has thrown curveball after wave after punch at me and I have been doing my best swimming and coming up for air.
.
The last month knocked me down pretty far, I've felt like I am drowning most of the time. I tend to believe that all the things happening this year are manifestation of my old ways of thinking that I have been working hard to change and overcome.
.
Like the world is like "Are you sure you don't want to keep believing all these things? I mean look at your life around you. Look at it crumble. You have so much evidence to keep believing you are not enough. You are never going to get anywhere. No one loves you. Boys use you. Any time you have money, something bad happens and you have to use it to survive instead of enjoy life. Look at all the things."
.
Right before my birthday month, i began to look through old pictures & look at all the good things I have done this year, all the fun I've had in between the chaos, all the ways I've grown.. & then my birthday month turned into a dumpster fire (quite literally 🤣) & I spiraled under a wave (and drank a little salt water).
.
I finally stole away for my belated birthday celebration & even that got truncated with more waves. 😳 Oh. Is this my old belief that I don't deserve/don't get to take breaks? Hmm..
.
Hard pass. I'm spitting up the salt water, my muscles are tired from fighting the waves, I'm exhausted. And I'm letting go. I shall now embrace the love of the leaves.
.
May all the dead ones fall and nurture the ground to which my roots shall grow and create new and vibrant leaves again.
.
Now i will allow the waves to carry me to shore. Like a lighthouse, i will stand tall and become a beacon of light, while all the waves and storms splash around me. I will not give up on the woman I am becoming. I will not give up on the little girl inside. I will not give up on me.
.
