The Peace studio embarked on Artist as Catalyst LA 2026 which brought together 40 emerging artists around the theme ‘The Power is in The People’. In 72 hours we learned, broke down barriers, and built community. 🤩

We built space for play and connection with catalysts creating projects to grow the city. This powerful cohort is only getting started on the impact they can impart onto this world. We want to thank Unlikely Collaborators and 18th Street Art Center and Electric Lodge for hosting us. Special thanks to our keynotes and panelists who dropped gems and shared their wisdom! 🗣️

Thank you to all of our incredible catalysts, staff, volunteers, caterers, presenters, and community who helped make this event possible! 🫂

What is ours to be done? What is ours to say, to try, to make into matter?

These are the questions posed by actress, writer, and member of our inaugural Cultural Response Cohort, Shannon Matesky @adventure.shawty. She reminds us throughout her poem, “Waiting” that our interconnectedness is essential, and that all our contributions matter.

As Shannon says, “Without you, there is no we.” ❤️‍🔥

I love love. I do. 💕
I have been honored to be welcomed into a calling I didn’t know that would send for me. Grateful to my friends who saw it in me and asked me to hold their most special ceremony of love and commitment to one another. Cyndii @cyndiiluwho is my forever sisterfriend, her partner, my brother. I have seen them cross many thresholds already and now I’ve helped facilitate them jumping the broom.
Family tings. Big love. Foreva Eva.

Hope this inspires you to bring some love in your heart today. For any and all of our loved ones. What a blessing and a gift. Love y’all! by @adventure.shawty

I was raised Christian, but now I am more spiritual and influenced by many practices that honor the Great Mystery, but the misuse of God has harmed my community and me. It has been weaponized to hurt, control, and rally us against each other when the true message is meant to be love,” says writer Shannon Matesky (@adventure.shawty).

In her poem “Godly,” she calls out the current uses of God as a tool of power and oppression rather than of love and interconnectedness.

No matter our belief systems, we must respect others’ autonomy, and within our democracy, we should foster cultural, spiritual, and material conditions that allow all of us to thrive. Abundance means our democracy is not just transactional but transformational, where people are not merely surviving policy but shaping futures that include space for us all. by @adventure.shawty

At the end of last year I wanted to fit in another International trip. Who coulda guessed that a dream trip to Tokyo, Japan would have been the cheapest option. A dream I’ve always wanted to do but seemed so out of reach, so overwhelming, so expensive, so I resigned to saying “One day.” That day came sooner than expected and I booked the flight. Then my life flipped, turned upside down and I had no time to plan or prepare, but shout out to some friends in Chicago, NY, Austin, who had just gone, and passed on all their recommendations. Next thing I know I’m on a plane to Tokyo with a master list and only directions from the airport to my Airbnb. The rest would be an adventure, and that it was.

I met some great people, saw some amazing things, and before I knew it I’m standing in the middle of Shibuya Crossing, taking photos in Shinjuku, on a freezing night- in JAPAN!

I’m working on my faith. That my dreams aren’t gonna just happen “One Day” but they can happen right now! The universe showed me that with Broadway and here again with Tokyo. After living through some wild circumstances there is no better time than now, no time to waste, we truly only live once, and we can have everything we want. Grateful I had the opportunity, bravery, and ability to do it.

Go get it. All your dreams can come true. Get on the plane. Trust it will all work out. Life is for the living. It is all a great adventure. 🇯🇵🏯💴 by @adventure.shawty

Actress and writer, Shannon Matesky @smatesky, calls in the New Year with a call for Celebration!

New Year, new plans — simply a new day!

It can be hard out there, but no matter the trials, the rough weather, or the seasonal depression that might be hitting you like a ton of bricks, you are still here!

We celebrate YOU! Collective care reminds us to see each other, be grateful for each other, and to lean on one another when we need it the most. If no one has told you today, we celebrate you! Just for being you! Throw yourself a mini party wherever you are right now! Why not? There’s always time to celebrate!

We thrive when we care for each other. Our stewardship expresses our care for future generations.

Shannon Matesky (@smatesky) uses her poem “We All Gotta Eat” to highlight how the Black Panthers uplifted people through their Free Breakfast Program. Shannon encourages us to find our own way as we face challenges securing food and racial justice today.

There is power in unity in times of crisis, and there is power in collective care. by @adventure.shawty
