Biscuits crossed the Rainbow Bridge in my arms at home, surrounded by love 🌈

On the evening of June 21st, the summer solstice, I said goodbye to my best friend, my heart dog, my soul dog, my adventure buddy… my constant.

For 6 years, he was by my side through every chapter of my life—the highs, the lows, the heartbreaks, the new beginnings, the road trips, the beach days, the mountain views, and all the ordinary moments that somehow became extraordinary simply because we were together.

Many of you have followed his journey for years. You watched him conquer the impossible and grow from a goofy golden retriever into an incredible companion who spent every day right by my side. You celebrated our adventures, laughed with us, and stood beside us through the hardest chapters of our lives. 🩵

Since January, we fought harder than I ever knew was possible. Specialists, ER visits, medications, tests, scans, procedures, surgery, countless prayers, and far too few answers. Through it all, Biscuits faced every challenge with the same quiet strength, trust, and determination that defined his entire life.

A warrior. A survivor. My inspiration.

In the end, the greatest gift I could give him was peace.

As heartbreaking as it was, I held him close, told him how loved he was, thanked him for everything, and then took away his suffering.

For a dog who spent every day radiating love, loyalty, and joy, there is something beautiful about knowing his final day was wrapped in the brightest light of the year. ✨

And while my heart isn’t ready for this season without him, I find comfort in believing his next adventure is filled with endless sunshine, peaceful trails, and all the joy he brought into my life.

Run wild and free, my sweet Biscuits.

Roll in the fresh grass.
Find all the beaches.
Soak up all the sunshine.

Until we meet again, my sweet boy. 🤍🌈🐾🪽

One year ago today, Biscuits had surgery on both of his front legs to correct his elbow dysplasia. 😭❤️‍🩹
.
He was diagnosed last December 2021 with bilateral elbow dysplasia with coronoid fragmentation and elbow joint incongruity in both front elbows. Surgery that had to be performed on both elbows to correct his dysplasia was bilateral elbow arthroscopy for bone fragments retrieval and bilateral bioblique proximal ulnar ostectomy… which in simple terms means they cut both ulna bones in half to correct the underdevelopment in his legs, cleared large bone fragments from both elbow joints and cleaned up the cartilage in the joints that were damaged by the bone fragments. This surgery occurred December 29, 2021 by the wonderful team from @vrcvet …. Exactly one year ago today!
.
It was a long and hard journey to recovery that consisted of lots of pain, struggles, tears, fears and doing everything possible to cling on to the positive. But in the end, B did it! He persevered and he didn’t let it alter his happy spirit! B thrives in physical therapy with @stridecaninerehab and graduated with flying colors by the beginning of March. By this September, I am a proud dog mom to say that, B was able to go on up to 5 mile hikes! He had come SO far in less than a year 🥹♥️
.
So… despite the recent struggles we’ve been facing over the last few months, today is still a very special milestone day for B and I. It’s a testament to how strong my good boy is, says that B is a fighter, and that we can get through anything together ❤️‍🩹

Today I’m especially thankful for Biscuits reaching his one year anniversary since his last surgery 🥹🤍
.
This latest surgery recovery was extremely difficult this time, even though it was on one leg vs two. The healing process took twice as long, took two rounds of PT, definitely challenged us to our breaking points, but we survived and I am thankful we made it through and thankful we get to spend Thanksgiving with my family this year! 🤍
.
For those who do not know, B has struggled with his physical health at young age due to bad genetics. At 1.5 years old he was diagnosed with double elbow dysplasia and arthritis of a 10 year old dog that required surgery on both elbows in Dec 2021. Then, just shy of 11 months later, due to bad joints, Biscuits had completely ruptured his ACL and meniscus which required a metal plate and screws to stabilize the leg. This left 3 of 4 of his legs surgically altered with a not “if”… but a “WHEN” his last healthy leg will blow out… needless to say, not something a dog mom wants to hear about for her 2.5 year old dog. 😭
.
BUT, B and I made it to the year marker today without rupturing his last healthy leg and I’m beyond thankful for that despite all the struggles we faced this year! ❤️‍🩹
.
Happy thanksgiving my friends!!

3 months… 90 days… without you. 💔

Today marks three months without my best friend. And somehow, it still doesn’t feel real.

I’ve shared many sides of my sweet boy over the years, but there’s one side of our relationship that I kept semi-private. Some of you may have already guessed this, but Biscuits was my task-trained service dog.

He wasn’t just my dog who happened to come with me everywhere. He was my partner. He worked beside me, traveled with me, helped me through the difficult moments, and somehow always seemed to know exactly when I needed him.

Tomorrow marks the autumn equinox—the end of the first season without you. And as the seasons change, I find myself thinking about how much of my life changed with you.

There’s something special about knowing I helped him through the difficult parts of his life, just like he stood with me through mine. Biscuits knew me… every single side of me. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Sometimes it seemed like he knew me better than I did.

Biscuits always knew what I needed, sometimes even before I realized myself what I needed.

We were partners. Best friends. Each other’s constant.

I miss him working beside me every day. I miss the little things only he knew. I miss having him beside me in a world that feels very different without him.

I really miss you, Biscuits.

I love you, forever & always 🤍🪽 by @adventures_with_biscuits

6 years of life condensed into 1.5 minutes… 🤍

6 years of adventures, couch cuddles, road trips, sunrises, muddy paws, goofy faces, and a love I’ll never be able to put into words.

There are so many memories in these 6 years, and somehow, watching them all flash by before my eyes makes me realize just how badly I wish I could have had more.

More mornings.
More adventures.
More ordinary days with you.

6 years wasn’t enough. But honestly, it never could have been. No amount of time would have.

My whole world, in a million little moments.

I love you forever, Biscuits 🤍🌅

I don’t think I’ll ever stop missing you.

But I also don’t want the hardest days to be the ones I remember most.

Today is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day 🌈

I want to remember you like this.
Happy.
Free.
Running on the beach.
Making sand angels.
Letting the ocean breeze play with your golden coat.
Making me laugh at the simplest things.
Looking at me like I was your whole world & more.

You were so much more than the way your story ended.

You were my Biscuits. And you were loved & cherished every single day you were here. And will be everyday that passes since you crossed the rainbow bridge. 🤍

I love you so much, Biscuits… words cannot even begin to express how much I do.

One year ago today, I got the keys to what I thought would be our fresh start. We were finally home.

Today should have been a celebration of one year in our home. Instead, it marks exactly one month since I had to say goodbye to you forever.

The timing feels impossible to ignore.

These photos used to remind me of a new beginning. Now they remind me how quickly life can change.

These photos were taken the day I got the keys. This was supposed to be the beginning of our next chapter—our first home that was truly ours. A place where we could finally settle in after so much change, where I could build a fresh start with you by my side.

Looking back at these photos, I can’t help but smile for the version of us that still believed we had years ahead of us. You explored every corner of the house like it was already yours and even proudly claimed the master bedroom by taking a 💩 in the middle of the room despite being 1000% potty trained. 😂

We celebrated by lying on the empty living room floor, dreaming about everything this home would soon become…

I always imagined we’d be celebrating this anniversary together—with a pup cup for you and a beer for me.

Instead, I’m walking through a house that feels so much quieter and emptier without you here.

Home was never just these four walls. Home was wherever we were together.

I’ll always be grateful that, for a little while, this was your home too.

I just wish this house could have held more happy memories for us…

My heart aches every second of every day for you. I miss you every single day, Biscuits. I always will 🤍🌈🐾

Four weeks…

Somehow it’s been four weeks since I held you for the last time as you took your final breath.

I still catch myself thinking you’re just at an appointment and that I’ll see you soon. I still reach back expecting to feel the heavy weight of your paw resting in my hand, or glance toward the door expecting to hear your paws lumbering behind me like they always did.

I miss our adventures and our daily routine. I miss your happy grin—so big that all anyone had to do was look into your eyes to know you were smiling. I miss your hugs like these more than I can put into words. Your absence is absolutely deafening…

I would give anything for one more adventure with you… one more moment, one more hug.

I loved you your entire life, Biscuits… and I’ll love you for the rest of mine 🤍🌈🐾 by @adventures_with_biscuits

A big Biscuits update ❤️‍🩹

After months of specialist appointments, advanced diagnostics, and more questions than answers, we finally have some clarity regarding Biscuits’ neurologic symptoms.

His MRI and spinal fluid testing support a diagnosis of meningitis/meningoencephalitis. After extensive infectious disease testing came back negative, his neurology team now believes the most likely cause is an autoimmune disease, meaning his immune system is mistakenly attacking his own body.

While this is a serious diagnosis, having an answer has finally allowed us to move forward with treatment. Biscuits has officially started autoimmune therapy, and for the first time in a while, it feels like we have a somewhat of a direction.

We also received encouraging news from Orthopedics. His TPLO implants remain stable, his leg is generally doing well, and implant removal is not considered urgent at this time.

Unfortunately, the Internal Medicine side of this journey remains much more complicated.

Recent CT imaging showed worsening blood clots, enlarged abdominal lymph nodes, recurring abdominal fluid, a previously identified liver lesion that has continued to change, and a newly identified liver nodule. Earlier this week, Biscuits ended up back in the ER after fluid reaccumulated in his abdomen that needed to be removed. Thankfully, he was able to come home that same night after having some of the fluid drained to make him more comfortable.

While we finally have a clearer direction regarding the neurologic disease, we still don’t know what is causing the clotting abnormalities, liver changes, and recurring abdominal fluid.

Tomorrow, Biscuits is scheduled for an ultrasound guided liver aspirate in hopes of getting more answers on the Internal Medicine side of things.

So for now, we’re in a strange place: grateful to finally have some answers, while still searching desperately for others.

Thank you to everyone who has followed his journey, checked in on us, shared his story, donated, and # cheering him on. We couldn’t have made it this far without this supportive community
