PROTECT OUR RIGHTS, PROTECT OUR FUTURES AND DO NOT FAIL US! 💙

“You may die of old age, while we may die from the consequences of climate change.” 🌍

These are the words of our member Emilie Kamguia when se took the floor in the hemicycle of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) during the debate on climate action and young people.

Her message to the parliamentarians was clear - that young people are not only victims of the climate crisis. We are leading the way to transition.

She emphasized the need to implement the Recommendation on Young People and Climate Action and handed our support to the drafting of a convention recognizing the right to a healthy environment.

Let’s take action now! taken in Council of Europe by @advisorycouncil

We did it! From a proposal in Monaco to a resolution in Strasbourg 🙌

In May, our Chairperson Emma Wedner and Vice-chair Xesc Mainzer met the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Monaco. They presented our priorities and proposed a joint debate on the urgency of concrete climate action, together with young people.

That debate has now happened, and on 1st of October 7 young representatives took part in PACE’s general debate on climate action and young people.

Thank you, Ms Aurora Floridia and the committee on social affairs, health and sustainable development for inviting us to contribute to the report and resolution, which was successfully adopted after the debate 💙

What comes next? We’ll keep pushing to:
🌱 Implement the recommendation on young people and climate action
⚖️ Support the drafting of a legally binding instrument on the right to a healthy environment at Council of Europe level

After the summer we’ve just lived through, and the ones still ahead of us, young people are not waiting. We’re demanding action 💪 taken in Palais De L'europe by @advisorycouncil

“Protect our rights. Protect our future. Do not fail us” – Emilie Tamo Kamguia (@advisorycouncil) urged the @pace_coe on 1 October.

The Advisory Council on Youth and young people helped shape and prepare the PACE general policy debate, “Europe, the fastest-warming continent: accelerating climate action with young people”. They proposed the topic, suggested young speakers and commented on the agenda; Emilie also took part in a preparatory meeting. Young representatives then participated in the debate, calling for urgent climate action - a long-standing priority for young people - and for young people’s rights and voices to be protected.

From the Advisory Council on Youth, Emma Wedner, Xesc Mainzer and Emilie Tamo Kamguia attended, together with Léna Coco Kovats (@regeneration.2030), Filip Jankovic (@cdnee) and Haytam Benchachoum (@iaas.world).

AI is powerful. The question is: who is it working for? 🤖🕊️

Our members Francisco and Tobias took part in the 25th University on Youth and Development in Mollina, Spain 🇪🇸

This year’s theme, AI, Youth and Peace, brought together 100+ young people from 40+ countries: youth workers, policymakers and experts, all in one room working on one challenge. How do we make sure AI serves people, peace and democracy, and doesn’t work against them?

Young people shouldn’t just receive peace education. We should help lead it ✊

Stay tuned for what comes next 👀 by @advisorycouncil

Nature Protection and Biodiversity as Enablers of Rights, Participation, and Well-being. 🐻

This week, 25 young Europeans gathered in Strasbourg to dive deep into the Bern Convention, nature advocacy, and meaningful youth participation in decision-making.

Today, one of the most direct powers young people and youth organisations have around the convention is filing formal complaints when protected habitats, plants, or animals are threatened. The study session will hopefully allow young participants to find new paths to shape the future of nature protection in Europe.

Thank you to the organisers for this successful week: @yeenetwork @europarc.youth @europeanyoungrewilders @coe_youth by @advisorycouncil

The International Day of Peace - World Peace Day - is marked every year on 21 September. Established by the United Nations, it highlights peace as more than just absence of war and violence. It serves as a reminder that peace is built, maintained, and strengthened by all of us as active participants.
Across communities and borders, peace requires that human rights, democracy, the rule of law, social justice and civic spaces are kept for all.

Young people are at the forefront of peacebuilding worldwide, all the while facing the consequences of conflicts they did not create.

Yet, peace cannot be built for young people, without being built with young people. Young people are active participants in shaping peaceful communities and they must be recognised as such.

Today is International Day of Democracy.

Earlier this year, 120 young people presented an ambitious vision for democracy in 2049. However, current trends of democratic backsliding and polycrisis point in the opposite direction.
To improve the Health of our democracies for everyone, the manifesto highlights several necessary commitments including:
•The access to social rights as a prerequisit for democratic security

•Calls for truly representative democracy and democratic accountability for all

•The need for increased dialogue and power-sharing between social groups, including with Young people, in decision making

•Increased people centrerd and local initiatives

•The access to information, education and participation

Democracy means participation, equality, solidarity, but fundamentally it means to have the freedom to voice your opinions in complete alignment with Human Rights and without fear of reprisals. And current developments painfully remind us that democracy, all over the world, is in peril and cannot be taken for granted.

As young people continue to innovate, organise, protest and dream of a better future, we still believe that democracy is worth fighting for rather than abandoning. But it requires ambitious action and political courage.

Therefore, we stand in solidarity with the young people whose trust in a democratic future is currently being crushed by repression and systematic dismantling of institutions.

Mental well-being in a context of war

Some weeks ago, our member Tobias joined a training seminar on “Building resilience in young people: Youth work and non-formal education for mental well-being of young people affected by war” in the European Youth Center in Budapest.

Important discussions were held on how young Ukrainians can build resilience in challenging times. In this video, youth workers share how they cope with the situation, between their challenging jobs and staying mentally resilient. 📣 by @advisorycouncil

Dragoș Tarța represented the Advisory Council on Youth in the 104th meeting of the Steering Committee for Human Rights, upholding the importance of the Youth Perspective and the relevance of young voices in the defense of human rights.

We welcome the CDDH’s appointment of a youth rapporteur, Elīna Vītola of Latvia — an important and timely step for youth rights and participation.

We celebrate this strong step forward for more inclusive governance, stronger representation, and a more youth-responsive human rights agenda. by @advisorycouncil
