Student Chapter Shoutout!

Here's a little look into one of the opportunities TAMU's chapter provides its student body with! What a creative way to relax and simultaneously incorporate our mission statements!

TAMU AEI hosted a Gingerbread Building Contest on finals week of the Fall semester to give students a space for creativity, problem solving and collaboration. It was great to see teamwork show itself in fun creations, fueled by friendly competition. And, while it was social, students were able to draw on their design and structural courses to make interesting designs. The turnout was high, the students had fun and we ran out of gingerbread cookies. by @aei_nsos

Student Chapter Shoutout!
Texas A&M at Kingsville has been staying booked and busy with their student body, and we love to see all of the professional growth within our aspiring engineers!

As a recognized Student Chapter of AEI, Texas A&M University-Kingsville poses a unique strength driven by both our professionalism and our roots. Through strong connections with industry partners across South Texas, we gain real-world insight while building meaningful relationships that support our growth as future architectural engineers. What truly sets us apart is our close-knit, predominantly Hispanic community where culture, support, and ambition come together to uplift one another and shape the next generation of professionals. by @aei_nsos

Alumni Appreciation!
As the conference nears its end, let's take a moment to congratulate Dr. Sorensen on an amazing conference and its gratifying success!
Here is a little more about Dr. Sorensen's story - Thank you for your hard work to make this conference a success!

Dr. Andrew Sorensen received his B.S. in Architectural Engineering with an emphasis in
structural engineering from the University of Wyoming in 2002. He then worked as a
design engineer before returning to school to obtain a Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering
in 2009 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 2023 he earned an M.B.A. with a
specialization in Business Analytics from Southern Utah University. Dr. Sorensen is
currently an Associate Professor of Architectural Engineering in the Department of
Multidisciplinary Engineering in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University
where he teaches courses in architectural and structural engineering and performs
research on the behavior of cementitious infrastructure and building materials under
extreme and multi-hazard loading events.

Dr. Sorensen's involvement in the Architectural Engineering Institute dates back to his
undergraduate days at the University of Wyoming. He currently serves as the faculty
advisor for the Texas A&M AEI student chapter, as an Associate Editor for the Journal of
Architectural Engineering, and as Co-chair for the 2026 AEI Annual Conference. He is
a champion of Architectural Engineering education and takes great pride in helping
prepare the next generation of Architectural Engineers. by @aei_nsos

Student Chapter Shoutout!
Here is an example of one of the many opportunities Oklahoma State has offered their student body.
At one of their recent meetings, OSU AEI hosted Wallace, who gave a great presentation on real-world structural design challenges. They focused on high-rise buildings and explained how wind tunnel testing is used to better understand wind effects and shape the structural system. Students found it especially interesting to look at how classroom concepts like lateral loads are applied in practice. by @aei_nsos

Student Chapter Shoutout! Here's what U. Wyoming has been up to lately.

The University of Wyoming AEI put on a design-build competition last semester! Student members worked together to design and build dog houses that were donated to the local Laramie animal shelter! Students also got a chance to work with professionals to learn more about real life applications of their skills.

A great example of how our student chapters give back to the community through their hard work, and the role models they are! taken in University of Wyoming by @aei_nsos
