POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
As we reflect on the moments that shaped our 2025, one thing stands above the rest: community.

Our first core value, and the foundation of everything we do. It’s how we show up for each other on the mats and beyond them.
Training hard side by side. Showing up to compete, to celebrate, to support. Wins, losses, fight nights, weddings, weight cuts, fight camps. None of it happens alone.

Community isn’t just who you train with. It’s how they’re always rooting for you, inside the gym and out in the world.

As we look ahead to what’s coming next, this is the foundation we’re building everything on. taken in Aether BJJ by @aetheryyc

Progress lives in the process.
That work is the craft.

The reps no one sees.
The details everyone feels.

Improvement isn’t easy.
It’s showing up.
It’s pushing through doubt.
No ego. No shortcuts. Just effort and respect.

And having coaches that don’t just teach.
Coaches that are putting in the work right alongside? Still learning. Still refining.

That’s a standard that lifts the whole room. taken in Aether BJJ by @aetheryyc

Competition isn’t just against opponents or for medals.
It’s against who you were yesterday, for who you want to be tomorrow.

That victory can’t be won in a single match.
It’s hard earned.
In the reps no one sees.
In training with intent when it would be easier to coast.

To raise the standard one round, one rep, one choice at a time.
Under the lights and in the quiet moments when no one is watching.

Competition is pressure but it’s also honesty.
It shows what’s working and where there is still room to grow.
It demands accountability.
It rewards effort.

We check our ego, compete with ourselves first, and trust that growth comes from consistency.

...but yeah, the medals are a pretty nice bonus! taken in Aether BJJ by @aetheryyc

Always a great time at @cmcmma.lethbridge tournaments! Cordelia’s first ever tournament and she didn’t get subbed once! We are so proud of the dedication she’s been putting in and it was so clearly displayed on the mats! Can’t wait to see what she does in two weeks at SubAce! taken in Canadian Martial Arts Centre Lethbridge by @aetheryyc

🔥 SUPER FIGHT ANNOUNCEMENT 🔥

Two submission hunters. Two aggressive styles. One goal: the finish.

🥋 Lucas Woods | Canadian Martial Arts Centre
Pace. Pressure. Constantly hunting for the finish.

Lucas plans to keep moving forward, force the action and make every exchange count. No coasting. No waiting. Just relentless pressure until the opportunity to finish presents itself.

🆚

🥋 Charlie Pelletier | Aether Jiu-Jitsu
Charlie is coming in with a submit or be submitted mentality.

His approach is simple: hunt submissions, create chaos and put on a show. He’s willing to take risks, push the pace and put himself in the fire because winning isn’t the only objective. He wants to entertain and leave an impression.

When you match pressure against chaos and both athletes are hunting for submissions, you get exactly what RollX was created for. 🔥

Endlessly proud of these boys!
Four GOLD - One SILVER - One BRONZE
This past weekends tournament at CMC was a blast!
•
Charlie smashed his Gi division for Gold!
Will fought hard for his Gold in NoGi!
Colin stepped on the competition mats for the first time ever after only three months training to earn his NoGi Gold!
Jaden fought some tough competition in his first ever tournament and brought home Bronze!
Coach Dan had major FOMO and signed up last minute to come in with just the goal to have fun and approach things openly. The tactic worked and he claimed Gold in his NoGi and Silver in his Gi (Where he submitted his first Black Belt in competition)!
•
Shoutout to all those that came out for it! Competition is where we come to test our skills. None of us would be the athletes we were without competition! So be sure to thank your fellow competitors for showing up and those that put in the work to run these tournaments!

The Gi changes many things about how a takedown works🥋

Grips on the collar and sleeve give you control points that don’t exist in No-Gi, which means timing, grip fighting, and off-balancing matter much more before you even attempt the takedown.

Coach @dankovalchuk spent a year training at a Judo club specifically to sharpen this side of his game, and you can see those adjustments show up in how takedowns are taught at Aether.

Our process for every technique is the same:
break down the concept,
drill the mechanics until they are understood,
then pressure-test it live,
always with control and student safety as the priority. taken in Aether BJJ by @aetheryyc

Four years - Dean’s List every semester
Today, our Head Coach Dan graduated from Mount Royal University with his Bachelor of Social Work!

Dan started this program with a full schedule already with training and working full time. Then he added a degree on top of it, took over the gym full time, navigated injury, surgery, and recovery, and handled all of it with the same quiet, steady focus he brings to everything he does.

That’s who he is and it’s exactly why we’re proud to call him our Coach!

Everything Dan does, he does with purpose. That work ethic, that commitment, that strength of character; we see it every single day in this gym. Now he adds a degree in helping people find their strength and resilience to everything he already brings to this community.

He will also still choke you out on any given day, but he can now help you process the experience afterwards. Professionally.

Congratulations, Coach. We always knew what you were made of — now you’ve got the letters to prove it. 🎓 taken in Mount Royal University by @aetheryyc
