Competition is the final test of your skill. When coaching, my goal is to prepare my athletes for that one moment. To prepare them for this moment we need to introduce different levels of stress. Too little will not create much adaptation, and too much can create burnout and plateau the learning process. By slowly introducing different levels of stress during training we improve, learn new skills, and become more comfortable in uncomfortable situations.
As an athlete, I experienced a lot of burnout by being tough, having no days off, and embracing the popular Everyday Porrada mentality which resulted in years of plateau in skill acquisition and physical performance.

Some action shots from the most badasses competitors in the province 💪😤👊

@dhgrapplingseries is always fun to cover, not just for your aggressive rule set but also because of the gladiator helmet 🤯🔥

After a successful night of cornering my guys, 4 hours sleep and a 3 hour drive I got to coach and compete at @dhgrapplingseries in Banff.
It was my first time competing as a brown belt and I felt really comfortable doing so with the little energy I had. I was able to showcase a lot of new moves I have been working on for a while, and jumped the gun on a couple other ones too for entertainment purposes.
I had 4 matches in No-Gi and 3 matches in the Gi.
I was able to medal 3rd place in No-Gi and 2nd place in Gi.

Got the win last weekend in red deer n felt good doing it. Thanks to all my freinds n family and all my training partners who helped me. You may fight in there by yourself but it takes a whole army of people to help you prepare. Now time to prep for sum big jits tournaments.

Just wanna come on here and give a huge thank you to everyone who supported me for this upcoming fight. If it wasn’t for these amazing people and the sponsorships none of this would have been possible. Thank you all again and make sure everyone checks them out!

@aetheryyc Hi 👋🏼

It has been almost two months since we took over AETHER and we want to take a moment to sincerely thank all of our AETHER family for their grace and support during this time.

From running classes when we left to the east coast week one, to helping us with a massive reorganization, to simply offering advice and words of encouragement.We truly would not have been able to navigate this sudden and wonderful detour in our lives without every single one of you.

Now that we’ve found our feet, we are ready to hit the ground running. We have big plans and we are so excited to continue this wonderful journey with you all - OG’s and new!

Lots of Love, Dan & Paige

Hand fighting is a very important aspect of grappling, whether it’s on feet or on ground. The ability to off balance, disposition, control, and reduce our opponent’s ability to defend themselves or be able to attack us is the main battle in each exchange. In grappling, and in striking, hand fighting is one of the most important tools to give us the ability to have an advantageous position over our opponent. Every move and action should have a purpose. Moving for the sake of moving is wasteful and puts you in a disadvantageous position by providing openings to your opponent.
If you don’t know what you’re doing, send me a DM for some private training, or join our community of smart practitioners at @aetheryyc

Another trip out east in the books, we weren’t able to come back with any belts this time, but gained a lot of experience in the process. Super proud of my big bro @alexmarkett for stepping in the cage and going against a game opponent, it was his first time going the distance in his fights and I can’t wait to see how much you grow from it. On to the next one 👊
