Rehearsal photo … I love rehearsal photos as all part of the creative process. Macbeth. My eldest @sophiebirdpoetry is Lady Macduff, which means she gets the pivotal moment of being murdered (phew, offstage) for no apparent reason, which I think marks Macbeth’s descent into a bad place. David Fletcher did a really insightful job with this Company, all directed and delivering every line with pace and clarity, in a really fab theatre on the river, @lofttheatreleam in Leamington Spa. Love the stage size dusty bloody thumbprint on the boards, you just know it’s not Mary Poppins. Definitely worth putting this Theatre on your map. Bloody good theatre night out, with beer beforehand. 🙌🙌🙌. I pinched the photo from the theatre’s website, photographer not attributed. #macbeth #shakespeare #magician by @afbleather

Large fantasy landscape , infused with Wistman’s Wood and Brecon (Bannau Brycheiniog) Waterfalls, the last of a trilogy of journeying, pathways, and stepping into other spaces. The next landscape continues the sense of water ways and connections through woodlands.

Duncan Chisholm’s music has been more than instrumental in the creation of these landscapes, it has been interwoven into the process. The process of weaving many parts of the north Somerset and north Devon coasts, Dartmoor, and bits of the special place that is Westonbirt into new imagined landscapes.

The generosity of strangers.
This is the only way I can think to put my Thank You out into the world to a English landscape painter called William, of whom all I know is that he has exhibited in New York and spent two hours discussing my landscapes in the art of transitional spaces. So much discussed, on process and intent, as well as finished work. As he left he said two things: I should consider showing my style of imaginative realism in the US, and that he would have liked to have introduced Carlo Scarpa into the conversation.

I came in today to find he had left this gift of a magnificent edition on Carlo Scarpa’s work. It is breathtakingly beautiful.

So. I send so much gratitude to this almost anonymous act of generosity, and by extension a salute to every anonymous act of generosity, every generous act that asks for & expects no reward.

I got so caught up in finishing my own work I was derelict in shouting out There’s my eldest @sophie.jasmin_ up there BEING Juliet, opposite a stunning perfectly matched Romeo. I have pinched theatre photographer Mike Watling’s images 📷.
The reviews say:

“It’s no spoiler to remark on the incredible performances from protagonists Alex King as Romeo and Sophie Jasmin Bird as Juliet. The pair throughout the production delivered strong performances interpreting their huge parts as good as ever I have seen on the professional stage.”
Candidate for the bestest critique you could wish for.

Work in progress. Wobbly camera. Worn out pencils. Latest large landscape, inspired by walking Dartmoor, and Wistman’s Wood in particular, for a series called Pathways- the journeys we take. Feeling slight pressure as it is for an exhibition “Art of Transitional Spaces” with @artby_marianne and @lorrainereillymillingtonartist. Check out their work too! So pleased to be associated with these super talented English artists. #pathways, #journeys, #create, #woodland, #pencil, #pencildrawing, #pencilart, #landscapeart, #landscapelovers, #spiritual, #spiritualjourney, #artistsoninstagram,

The Apollo Moon mission of the 1960s, when humans stepped off this planet for the first time, was the biggest moment of my childhood. Thrilling, ennobling, heavenly. Before I really new it, “… one giant leap for mankind” was a call to act, together, on big ideas, and show that we can do the unthinkable. Seeing Luke Jerram’s moon ( https://my-moon.org/about/ ) suspended inside our Abbeys was electric, all the more for being accompanied by Darkside , @thefloydshow live.

It is now time to look closer to home, to view the Earth, and, yes, engage with our giant leap for mankind, but also for everything precious.

I was delighted to be asked to collaborate with @wellscathedral and the artist of ecclesiastical and spiritual places @artby_marianne for the @lukejarramartist installation at Wells Cathedral. https://my-earth.org/about/
Running 11th Oct - 10th Nov. You will see our planet, the Earth, suspended in the nave of the cathedral. The card is to be enjoyed, or shared to friends with the addition of that analog thing, a stamp. Purchased from Wells Cathedral. #gaia #earth

The second landscape, Pathways II, in the Pathways series reeled next to Pathways I. Small on the screen, 70cm x 50cm in real life. Drawings from walking the land. First pair of A2 prints sold. Pathways III started, from trip to ancient woodland on Dartmoor.

Close up of an almost finished landscape in the Pathways series, based on the long journey around the south west English coast, with occasional forays onto moorland and waterfall regions. And some fantasy. This is the second in a series, the third just starting. Planning to make available in print and card form. Keep walking, keep studying, keep drawing.

After walking the North Somerset and North Devon coast these two images now as cards, giclée prints to follow. They use sketching from St Audries cliff waterfall round to Valley of the Rocks and Watersmeet, and are now available in @rogues_avalon in Glastonbury. Ancient England reinterpreted as Fantasy Landscape. The first is called Looking Up, to remind us to do just that. The second is called Pathways I as it forms a series of continuous landscapes around southern England with walking diversions onto Dartmoor and Brecon Beacons National Park. It is a visual comment on not just the journeying we take but on our need for greater coexistence with the connections made by trees in their mycorrhizal network and the constant energy flow and essential need for water - mostly produced by the trees in their transpiration cycle. With thanks to Dr Diana Beresford-Kroeger and Dr Suzanne Simard in pointing out the boreal way, showing us that trees feel, and are worth more than we know at this point. Our learning to coexist with our surroundings rather than mine them is part of how we design and build our future. If you don’t know this landscape maybe go discover your @right.2roam
We are not alone in our experience.
