Music and Sound for ‘Tectonic Echoes’, part of @minorstep's recent rebrand. https://minorstep.com/tectonic-echoes/

George Kroustallis, the director and photographer behind the visual work which was realised through a meticulous collaboration with Nikolas Ardeley aka @hardlait, writes:

“Tectonic Echoes charts a timeline, bridging between the tranquil simplicity of ancient Greek Cycladic art and the defiant, brutalist architectural landscape of London's Barbican Estate. The series narrates the dialogue between a Greek heritage and an adopted, brutalist London life.”

To initiate the sound design journey, I sourced a selection of field recordings that formed the foundation of our audio mood board. Organic elements from the Cycladic region with its constant water movement, concrete hits and scrapes from the Barbican in London with its stunning stillness, the human voice for its sentimental value and depth, as well as resonating reverb samples inspired by awe-evoking architectural marvels and deep rugged island rock formations. Through mostly granular and spectral synthesis techniques, these form the sparkling sonic embellishments over a minimalistic beat and the motif-leading hybrid wavetable synths. Kroustallis encouraged me to freely take creative risks and make unapologetic sonic decisions that we believe truly enhance the experience, all while keeping it enjoyable.

Music and Sound for 'Cave House in Milos', a spatial design project created by @minorstep and @alvaropoher.
.

🌊 Nestled on the Greek island of Milos, this sanctuary emerges seamlessly from the landscape, showcasing the harmonious relationship between human design and natural beauty.
.
.
.
🎛️ To craft the soundscape for this piece, we used a combination of organic and digital instruments inspired by the island's unique rock formations and geological features. The heart of the composition is a Cristal Baschet, akin to a glass harmonica, which we manipulated to create both sustained and percussive sounds. These sounds were then enriched with the ambiance of similar spaces, allowing the 'house' to resonate with an organic melody and rhythm, mirroring its unique form. by @afieldaudio

🔊✂️🎛️ Stem breakdown in Ableton of my newest soundtrack for @minorstep & @vitalykiaiev's "ROMBAUT × PUMA LEVITATION" visual piece. Loved working on this one, feels like my bread and butter kind of sound lately!

Some projects just draw everything out of you. When the concept, the direction, and the creative freedom all align, I find myself more easily immersed into every little sonic detail with absolute care and curiosity. I love these types of collaborations.

Non vedo più niente attorno a me,
è forse notte?
Non ricordo d’aver visto il tramonto arrivare.

I no longer see anything around me,
Could it be night?
I don’t recall seeing the sunset arrive.

"PIROUETTE" - audiovisual collaboration between @hugojohnson01 and @aonianmusic

"Constantly inspired by Hugo's visuals, so I hit record and improvised a few minutes on the piano, then chose some loops to send over to Hugo. He interestingly chose the first motif I had played while watching his work." - Aonian
