The Charlotte Köhler Prize 2026 ❤️

I feel deeply honored to receive this prize, following such an inspiring line of artists who came before me. CANT BELIEVE IT STILL. Thank you. ❤️

It feels as a recognition of my work and practice as a whole. And as an acknowledgment that being outspoken, trying to stand up for what’s right, listening to that gut feeling, asking difficult questions, and embracing discomfort can be part of being an artist practice.

Today I feel so proud and seen and to recieve this prize means so much.

My work wouldnt be possible without the help of so many others. Thank you to everyone who supported me in the past years, to all the people I have had the chance to work with, to all the artists and thinkers that shared their wisdom with me, to the cheerleaders in the back, those who introduced my practice to others, and all the friendships the exhibitions and collaborations this practice has brought along the way. THANK YOU ❤️

Specially thanks to my dear friends and inspiring artists @ale_looma @shanadevilliers @juliadaheehong @marnixvanuum @nadieborggreve @mi.mo.ney who have helped my through the years in the production of the work. It was through your hands that these works were brought into being. Thank you ❤️

And to my girlfriend, whose hand I love to hold, 🖐️❤️ , and whose wise words and thoughts make sense in all the weirdness @bark4kisses I LOVE YOU 🤪🫨❤️ by @aframarciel

You wonder why femicide is such a big problem in the Netherlands? Because there are almost no consequences when men harm womans bodies.

To all survivors reading this: you are not alone.
Never feel ashamed of the violence you have endured. And if shame comes, know that we stand with you — always. ❤️‍🩹🫂❤️ by @aframarciel

🇵🇸 Demo: Coming sunday 29/10 at The Hague 14:00 Malieveld

Im hoping to see all of you there, if you havent seen the news yet. Our (former) prime minister went to visit his ‘friend’ (his words) Netanyahu to talk from his ‘own emotions’. This ongoing support of Netherlands to Israel needs to stop. The Prime minister of the Netherlands shouldn’t be shaking hands with a war criminal. Instead he should put Netanyahu in front of the International Criminal Court so he can face charges for the war crimes he is committing.

In my bio you have two links (or go to @oumelghoulbzouri ) and take 5 seconds of your time to email all of the NL parliament and the NL representatives in EU to condemn and stop the genocide on Palestine. by @aframarciel

afra eisma’s work is currently in view in Playing House, the Children’s Biennale at the Groninger Museum.

Playing House is about the rules children grow up with, and about the ones worth breaking. The exhibition looks closely at what usually escapes the eye, such as words and images carved into a school desk, an imaginary friend nobody else can see, or a sound that carries more meaning than any sentence could.

Visit Playing House until January 10th, 2027 at Groninger Museum. With works by Mercedes Azpilicueta, afra eisma, Petrit Halilaj, Eva Kot’átková, Lina Lapelytė, sophie serber & Ola Vasiljeva

Feeling very touched and moved and proud and many other feelings that @enfoldindia & @mapbangalore turned the warrior garments into a gallery-on-demand show for the Sasken Multimedia gallery at @mapbangalore ❤️

This show is a collage of works created by children and young adults whom the Support & Rehabilitation team at Enfold Trust engages with, interspersed with the eight works which were on display at MAP at the exhibition warrior garments by Dutch artist afra eisma.

afra eisma was one of the first artists at the forefront of the #MeToo movement in the Netherlands. A small group of artists started the movement, speaking up about the sexual violence they encountered within the arts industry. When the institutions protecting the abusers refused to engage with them, the artists sought justice through media and law. As part of the process of navigating the complex legal and social processes associated with taking that stance, eisma started a
body of work that could give form to their anger.

Through a day-long workshop, children and young adults who have faced childhood sexual violence engaged with the warrior garments exhibition. After an exhibition walkthrough, they creatively responded to the garments through art-making exercises. Their narratives and agency take centre stage in this Gallery-on-Demand exhibition, where each participant responded to a collaborative prompt that helped them express
what their journeys felt like…

Due to the sensitive nature of personal experiences explored during the engagement, anonymity is maintained by corresponding a keepsake belonging to each participant with the artwork they created. The children and young adults were asked to bring a keepsake that is dear to them. Though almost all works are anonymous, a name is mentioned in one where
the poet chose to retain her name.

The workshop and Gallery-on-Demand exhibition were
conceptualised as part of a collaboration between Enfold Trust and the Museum of Art & Photography, Bengaluru

“I’m interested in the openness children often have — their ability to invent companions, move fluidly between fantasy and reality, and approach difficult emotions through play” — afra eisma.

🪁‘Hush’ is an immersive installation by artist @aframarciel at Groninger Museum, part of the ‘Playing House’ exhibition on view until 10 January 2027.

🐈 Imagine this: a large, touchable installation, a homely and imaginative world populated by one- and two-headed creatures. Half cat, half human.

🪁 In ‘Playing House. An art biennial with children and young people’, artist afra eisma creates a place for rest, conversation and togetherness for visitors. Her installation of hybrid figures invites you to take off your shoes, sit down beside them and become part of their world for a moment.

🔍 In the second room, you encounter her ‘Warrior Garments’ (2021–), made from a mix of materials and threads and hand-painted with activist texts. The many details and creases make the words hard to read, and some of them, deeply personal, are deliberately half-hidden from view…

These garments are made for a world in which emotions such as rage are not repressed but expressed, and yet, they can be taken off at any time. A reminder that feelings, too, can be carried, and also set aside.

🧦 Come and take your shoes off at ‘Playing House’ to immerse yourself in eisma’s installation, at Groninger Museum.
