😔🇵🇭 #WatsonvilleRiots have you heard about it?!? It’s one of those sad moments in our history. We speak of these occurrences like it was so long ago, but actually it was relatively recent. Less than 100 years ago 😮 think about it! 🤔 Read about it in my book #AfroFilipino history & culture - #AfroFilipina (🎥 @shawnarchen ) Original caption 👉🏽 A mob dragged Filipino farmworkers from their homes in 1930 and beat them with clubs, pistols, and whips — just because they dared to dance with white women.

California responded by banning Filipino and white people from marrying.

This all happened in Watsonville, just a few towns south of the Bay Area.

🖤🇵🇭 Meet Filipina Freedom Rider Mary Magdalena Harrison ✊🏽 Mostly we hear the narrative of division but it does not have to be a story of our opposition to each other. Are there problems and misinformation on both sides - yes! But does that mean we are all the opps? 🤔 Not at all. It is truly a nuanced subject Definitely love how @jasonchumusic drops so many gems - plus… #AfroFilipina #Blasian here 😜 it worked out well in me! #Afrofilipino #filipino #BlackFilipino by @afrofilipina

🇵🇭 What do they call you? For some reason it seems that so many cultures around the world have these colorism issues. Skin complexion matters so much!!! We think it’s beautiful, because we have a certain level of consciousness, but that doesn’t mean that we always feel beautiful. We certainly are not told we are. It can also be strange being #AfroFilipina, because in one community. My complexion is looked up upon as on the lighter side, and on the other side I am definitely Black 💁🏽‍♀️ (and proud if I may say so). But what do you feel about this Pamilya? 🇵🇭✨🩵 I love learning more about our traditional ways, long before modernization and westernization. Sometimes I wonder if we all would feel a lot better if we would seek natural ways sometimes.Have you done this?
