I'm so excited to share with you the cover for my debut picture book, BESSIE THE INVENTOR. The book tells the true story of a woman, who despite being repeatedly told what she couldn't do, became an inventor, a nurse, a handwriting analyst, and a business owner anyway. The beautiful illustrations by the talented @laurafreemanart bring this story to life.

You can pre-order today! (Link in bio)

I'm so grateful to the people who helped make this book happen: @quilltreebooks @harpercollins, the best agent @wonderlilly at @fullcirclelit, and to @nadiasalomon.author for making this cover reveal for me! by @afua_bruce

These past two weeks have been tough. Working long days to try to move a couple of big projects forward. A friend saw me on Thursday and just said, "you look really tired." I could only respond with, "I am really tired." Anyway, sharing this picture from last summer when I felt great and the wonderful @veleetadahliadacosta did my makeup for me. (I'm off to go rest and recover all weekend.) by @afua_bruce

Sometime next year, statues of myself and 120 women in STEM will be unveiled in the largest collection of statues of women. (Thanks, @IfThenSheCan!) I'm excited this exhibit will be at a time when the US is affirming the importance of science. Happy National #STEMDay! by @afua_bruce

This audiobook by @bridgetmarieindc was so good! Given my work in AI, I came in with a general understanding of the research in this space and strong feelings about how things should develop. The book confirmed some of my conclusions, challenged some of my assumptions, and revealed some new insights. I appreciated one of the concluding assessments of AI products for intimate relationships: "A product controlled by companies building empires on our vulnerabilities... companies that will change their product, their messaging, their values whenever it serves their bottom line." Bridget also touches on something I cover in my work: we need to exercise our collective agency to demand these [AI] tools be built differently. by @afua_bruce

Earlier this month I, along with my The Tech That Comes Next co-author, was invited to sit on a panel discussion about AI at the @astorialibrary in OR. We had a great conversation with a full room of community members who asked questions about ethical use, if there's such a thing as too much use, learning development, training and more. The time flew by and I forgot to get pictures of the panel or of the folks in the room. But true to my style, I did take many pictures of the libraey itself. It was a fun day! by @afua_bruce

A highlight of my week was attending the @democracycreators Festival at the MLK branch of the @dcpubliclibrary . I mostly tried to be present, and the photo of @smartinbrough leading an *excellent* workshop is one of only a few pictures I took. Joy is a human right and democracy is for and by all of us, We, the people. Happy Independence Day. by @afua_bruce

Congratulations to my friend Tom Scheer who is now officially the Guiness World Record holder for the most long distance triathlon races in one year. He completed 26 113km races over the past year! It's been amazing to seem him persevere through race disruptions beyond his control, injuries, and travel woes. Well done, Tom! by @afua_bruce

💡What if better technology starts with better imagination?

Hear from @ebeleokobi at @revolutionary_projects, @afua_bruce at ANB Advisory Group, and Will Drewery at Diagon Technologies in our Dreaming in Color LIVE conversation about the need for culture, #creativity, and community to influence the way technology gets designed.

The conversation challenges the default approach of building first and asking questions later.

Afua shares why the most useful tools come from getting clear on the world we want to create, then designing #technology that supports it.

Technology doesn’t just appear out of thin air. Every algorithm and AI tool is created by people making choices—and because we’re all biased, the systems we build will be too.

In this episode, Afua Bruce, CEO of ANB Advisory Group, shares how to use AI ethically in social impact work.
Afua’s take on responsible AI? It works for everyone, not just some people. It prioritizes accessibility, security, and privacy from the start, ensuring no group is disproportionately harmed.

If you’ve wondered how to make smarter technology decisions, this episode is for you.

This fall included *a lot* of travel to talk AI, responsible tech, and investing in Public Interest Technology around the world. I managed to wander through an art exhibit in almost every city I visited this fall. These images are taken from galleries in LA, Colorado Springs, Mexico City, Durham, and Accra. And bonus video of a decorate-a- pumpkin competition for staff at a resort in Seattle. by @afua_bruce
