Caught the São Clemente samba school practice run one recent night just before carnival. Hot and humid night, performers and audience had a ton of fun… what’s not to love?

I went on a walk in Berlin yesterday and played around with light, camera and a bit of cigar smoke.

Looking at the weather forecast, this might have been the last sunny day of the season. Cool already, despite the sun. But great for a walk.

I’ve been “on tour”, as a friend said, for the past 2+ months. Clients, conferences, concerts, family and friends, with a little vacation day here and the very occasional couch day there. It’s fun, but also exhausting. I’m not 20 anymore.

The global political landscape doesn’t help, of course. Elected individuals show their true colors, lie to their constituents and throw the world into chaos, just because they are small, vindictive people with nothing to offer that might command actual respect. Surrounded by enablers and bootlickers, they wreak havoc to distract from their own past or just because they can.

This, too, is exhausting and it’s important that we all remind ourselves (daily!) that none of this is normal, most of it is illegal, and it’ll require an active effort to stabilize society again.

Active efforts require energy, focus, and mental acuity. A change of scenery, a walk, a day of “boredom” and thinking or a bit of creative doing — all of those are important.

So get out there. Touch some grass, as the kids say these days… by @agebhard

Lineup changes can be jarring, both for a band itself and its fans.

But they can also be respectful and even outright fun for everyone involved: my friends in @aether.realm are currently presenting a masterclass in how to do this well.

They’re playing four shows this weekend under the label “Passing of the Tourch” to hand over the guitar reigns from @donnyburbage to @chrisjonesguitarist. Donny recently joined @cradleoffilth and Chris had been a friend of the Aether Realm family for a few years, so this is an obvious and natural evolution for him to team up with @heinrichyoshio, @tyler_gresh and @olbigleg for future tours and albums.

They were nice enough to let me peek a little behind the scenes with my camera at their hometown show yesterday in Asheville, NC.

Part 3 of 3

Here are some of my favorite shots of the recent @nungaraband and @serapis_project Europe tour. At first I tried to come up with a “best of” edit but who am I kidding? It really is just a “my favorites” selection…

And what a fun experience — tour photographer was not something I had anticipated to get to do in my late 40s for the first time so I’m grateful they asked me to come along through Belgium, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic.

Most performances were shot in color, except where colored LED lights were really terrible or where I wanted to give you, the viewer, more of a sense of looking behind the scenes. In fact, all of the behind-the-scenes material is in black and white, because I find that it lets you focus more on the moment.

With that, thanks to my friends @noelledosanjos, @murilofradem and @arturcipriani of Nungara and @krisvega_, @joaco_luis_, @lucasmluis_, @agustin_milton and @sergimp_guitar of SerapiS Project for trusting me with access and letting me document anything I wanted to shoot. Great artists and true professionals! taken in Europe by @agebhard
