Knistern in October was so sweet and rich in insights and experiences. Thank you @otismensah, @noursokhon and @mokeyanju for creating a special day. Otis came with a band, with @wolllleeeeee on keys and David on bass. In the small space of @richten25_space, with the audience being so close together in the space with the stage, it was such an intimate and special performance. It felt, Otis was speaking to us directly with their poetry. Nour experimented with ideas towards her upcoming album. With the thought of looking for beauty where hardship is constantly present, she invited the audience to contribute a voice note of a beautiful day, in speaking, making a sound, playing something from their phones .. whatever comes to mind. Many participated. She live processed the contributions and created a track, connected to her practice of using sound as archive. Jummy brought so great questions and hosted the conversation with so much interest in the music and themes the artists brought to Knistern. The conversation connected archives and memory with worldbuilding, went to the sounds of each one’s hometowns and what changes in moving, and also touched on topics of the need for space to experiment. Wolle and David joined the conversation and added further interesting perspectives. And thank you to Daphne Lejeune for the amazing tacos! 1 - panel with Nour, Otis, Jummy, and also Wolle and David joining 2 - Otis Mensah performance 3 - Otis Mensah performance video 4 - Nour Sokhon inviting the audience to participate 5 - 8 audience collaborations with Nour Sokhon 9 - conversation 10 - conversation - Nour on archives and sound 11 - conversation - Otis on recreation of self - connecting memory and dream, past and future 12 - conversation - Nour on memory and reasons to archive 13 - thanks to Annea & Janne for modeling the amazing tacos by Daphne Next Knistern on Sunday 01 November with sofia salvo, hassan umer amin, hosted by aida baghernejad @salvosoff_the_return @aoji.baoji @aida_berlin, brunch by @mehfil.meh.fil Knistern is presented by @bytefm and funded by @musicboardberlin. by @ago.12.ago

Welcome Aida Baghernejad to Knistern ✨ on 01 November at @richten25_space @aida_berlin will host the conversation with Sofia Salvo @salvosoff_the_return and Hassan Umer Amin @aoji.baoji. Aida Baghernejad @aida_berlin is an award-winning freelance journalist. She writes and speaks in German and English for a wide range of regional, national, and international publications on music, film, literature, and food. Her particular interest is in exploring the political dimensions of sound. She also frequently hosts and moderates podcasts and conversations on stage. In 2024, as a Thomas Mann fellow, she researched how political topics are addressed in pop cultural discourse. She publishes the newsletter “Recommended Reading”, and the interview series “Mach dich mal unbeliebt”, which she founded with Ciani-Sophia Höder. She lives mostly in Berlin, sometimes in London, and above all, online. We have seen Aida hosting many super interesting conversations, and are curious about the questions and themes she is going to bring to Knistern for this exchange on improvisation and deep listening, making music and lyrics in relation across different contexts, with diy and punk backgrounds. Welcome Hassan Umer Amin aka Dozakhi / Polymath to Knistern ✨ on Sunday 01 November at @richten25_space Hassan Umer Amin AKA Dozakhi/Polymath @aoji.baoji is a Pakistani-born punk, metal and hip-hop vocalist, lyricist and writer, currently based in Berlin. Hassan was key in developing DIY underground music scenes back in Pakistan. Part of the all-immigrant hardcore punk band @zanjeerpunk and the hip-hop collective Daranti Group, his various projects have spanned continents as well as genres. Hassan joins Knistern as Polymath, from the hip hop side of his practice, and plans to perform a solo audiovisual hip hop set. We look forward to the musical ideas and contexts Hassan will bring and explore as part of Knistern. We are curious to explore the intersection of lyrics, writing and sound, moving across different styles in music making seeking emancipatory expression, and writing lyrics in relation to/with different genres and contexts. Tickets for the Knistern Sunday afternoon listening and conversation session at link in bio. There will also be brunch! Welcome Sofia Salvo to Knistern ✨ on 01 November at Richten25. @salvosoff_the_return is a baritone saxophone player and improviser dedicated to noise, free jazz and experimental music. She plans to do an acoustic sola set, connecting improvised music and deep listening. She works in real time and with the acoustics of the place and does not prepare her sets beforehand. Sofia looks forward to discussing improvisation in music, and how to also use it to feed composition ideas and how both practices interconnect. A bit more background on Sofia - Born and raised in Buenos Aires and based in Berlin since 2019, she became a restless actor of the city's alternative scene. Her first solo release "ROTAROTA" published on @relativepitchrecords in 2024 showcases her vibrant and unique approach to the instrument. Her project "YEXXEN" includes musicians from the punk and DIY scene and was premiered in the last edition of A L'arme festival. Alongside the saxophone, she explores composition with electronic devices as can be heard in live performances with "ESETv3" and "Seriously? wow"as well as in the sketches in her Soundcloud. She co-curates "Revuelta Series" and @futurebash (Applaus Award 2025) besides other alternative events in Berlin. Among many other projects, she's part of WOBBLE8, Christian Kuhn's
@kuhnfumusic, Robert Lucaciu's "Fallen Crooner" and Amalie Dahl's "Dafnie Extended". Sofia has also been teaching saxophone and music lessons since 2010. Excited to announce Knistern #4 ✨ Knistern #4 one goes a little step further beyond the pop routes, where we usually branch off, and connects to relations in our networks. Mark your calendars for Sunday 1 November, at the lovely @richten25_space. Brunch at 12:00, performances at 13:00. ✨ Looking forward to welcoming: Sofia Salvo @salvosoff_the_return is an active part of the wider Richten25 network of improvised music. Sofia, raised in Buenos Aires, is a baritone saxophone player and improviser dedicated to noise, free jazz and experimental music. She works in real time, and with the acoustics of the place, practicing improvisation and deep listening. Hassan Umer Amin AKA Dozakhi/Polymath is a Pakistani-born punk, metal and hip-hop vocalist, lyricist and writer. Hassan was key in developing DIY underground music scenes back in Pakistan. Part of the all-immigrant hardcore punk band @zanjeerpunk and the hip-hop collective Daranti Group, his various projects have spanned continents as well as genres. Music journalist and experienced moderator Aida Baghernejad @aida_berlin will join us to host the conversation. Aida writes and speaks about music, culture and food, and is particularly interested in the political dimensions of sound. Between deep listening and improvised saxophone and an AV hip hop performance - we are curious to explore fluid ways of music making in various ways. How music and sound emerge in a moment, in relation to room, people, sounds and situation. How improvisation and composition influence each other. Moving across different styles in music making seeking emancipatory expression. Both artists have grown up in their respective local DIY and punk music scenes. Presale 8 € at link in bio. 🌶️🍚 TODAY! EMPATHONIC VOL. 10 — FINAL REMINDER! today, we celebrate the 10th edition of EMPATHONIC with two wonderful Berlin-based artists: 👉 WOOLY AZIZ 👉 KUPALUA But before we gather tonight, we want to share a little reminder of why we started this series in the first place. Empathonic is our longest-running concert series in collaboration with Moving Poets, dedicated to creating spaces for empathy through music, sound, and encounters in the neighborhood of Schöneweide, southeast Berlin. Once known as Berlin’s Elektropolis, this neighborhood carries a complex history of industrial ambition, political division, reunification, and ongoing social transformation. Today, Schöneweide reflects many of the contradictions we see across Germany: between openness and exclusion, belonging and alienation, established communities and newcomers, and different visions of how we might live together. These tensions are not always visible from the cultural centers of Berlin. Yet they are part of the everyday realities of this city, too. Through Empathonic, we want to bring different sounds, artistic practices, backgrounds, and people into the same space. Not because we believe music alone can resolve these contradictions, but because listening, gathering, and encountering one another might be small yet meaningful ways of cultivating empathy. Our sonic interventions are an invitation to the neighborhood, but also to everyone across Berlin: to come to Schöneweide, experience another part of the city, and share a space of listening together. . ❤️ 👇 TONIGHT — SUNDAY, 11 OCTOBER 2026 📍 Moving Poets NOVILLA Hasselwerderstr. 22, 12439 Berlin-Schöneweide 🚪 Doors: 17:00 🎶 Concerts: 18:00 onwards EMPATHONIC is a concert series by sōydivision × Moving Poets. Sweet memories of the July edition of Knistern. Thank you to @djrosapistola @ramiabadir and @wantonwitch for sharing your sounds and thoughts with us. And thank you @nischal.khadka1 for hosting. You brought topics of connecting contemporary electronic music with heritage, traditions, and popular music; about joyful music being deep and meaningful; about collectivity and spirituality of the dancefloor .. and much more. In an engaged audience conversation we moved also into questions of curation in festivals, institutions and music journalism and working in(ter)dependently as artists from the Global South. The brunch was contributed by Ayse and Chris of @richten25_space. Thank you for opening your practice and sharing with the audience. Thank you to everyone who came for your curiosity and engagement. Thank you to the beautiful @richten25_space for hosting us. We look forward to the next Knistern on Sunday 04 October noon/afternoon.
