Your body can affect your faith. It’s a reality I wish more people understood. Because the truth is, sometimes we blame ourselves for not being strong enough in our faith when it’s our nervous system that is keeping us stuck.

When chronic stress or trauma triggers survival mode within our body, this physiological state can negatively affect our faith. Prayer can be harder, because we are not easily calm. Scripture interpretation can be skewed because fear and anxiety are clouding our thoughts. God can seem distant when really it’s our body bracing for impact.

There are many God given techniques to restore and sooth our nervous system. Deep breathing, meditation, rhythmic prayer, communal singing and gratitude are all natural ways to bring balance to your nervous system.
It’s ok to go to therapy, and get medical help when you need it.

Please remember, be gentle on yourself and don’t assume it’s always a faith issue. Even the strongest of Jesus followers have felt this way. We’re all human.

In honor of a new season and fresh beginnings, I felt it was right to reintroduce myself.
So much has changed since I started A God Found Mess in 2022. Personally and professionally I’ve gone through a lot of changes.
A lot of grief hit me in 2025. I stepped away from the ā€œoutsideā€ world in order to connect with God and my family. My mom’s battle with dementia, leaving a job I loved, and ending relationships pushed me to my limits. It was a season for surrendering and diving deep into brokenness. We can’t rise strong if we don’t first uncover the weakness.
But God is unchanging and good!
And what He calls us to He is faithful to complete!
He has invigorated me through this season and reminded me that the truths that healed me from trauma in my 20’s, and cancer in my 30’s are the same truths healing and growing my heart today!!!! And I’m ready to share them again.

There aren’t a lot of places where Christians can have honest conversations about hard things like grief, addiction, trauma, marriage struggles, parenting struggles, our bodies, and issues with health and wellness. Sometimes we talk about these things and leave feeling hopeless and confused. Wondering how faith & theology integrate with mental health & real world issues.

A God Found Mess is a place where Godā€˜s truth meets real world practical strategies for living an abundant life, even when it’s messy. Healing & growing are LIFELONG journeys! Staying rooted in Jesus is the key to thriving.

If you’ve been here since the beginning, or you’re new in this season, I’m so thankful to have you here with me. My hope is that you can heal, grow, and stay rooted in Jesus.

Wherever we go,
no matter the battles we face,
God will protect us and be our peace.
He watches over us,
defends us when we can’t see,
and meets all of our needs.

He will never leave you or forsake you.
So lean into Him this month.
Intentionally pursue more of Jesus.
And you WILL be blessed!

23 years ago I went to rehab. . . .

The greatest advice I can give you is LET JESUS HAVE YOUR HEART, ALL OF IT!

Sometimes we stuff our real emotions and feelings, especially after trauma has negatively affected our lives.
But we cannot experience the full healing love and grace of Jesus if we don’t let Him have access to the mess.
Rehab is where I learned about trauma, unhealthy coping mechanisms and how sin and its consequences had a hold on my life.
I got honest, grieved, took responsibility and began the rest of my life with Jesus truly at the center.
Don’t be afraid to pause and get help.
Whatever that looks like for you.
There is hope in Jesus.

Sometimes, letting go is the secret to living your best life! Letting go and letting God that is.

I’ve learned these lessons in my life, and some come back around again and again.
Lately these are a few I’ve been reflecting on and leaning into.

šŸ’–Sometimes the things we thought we wanted aren’t actually good for us. The people we thought were our true love were only an imitation of God’s best.
šŸ«¶šŸ¼Sometimes being caught up in our convictions causes us to make enemies out of our brothers and sisters in Christ, when Jesus is asking us to work together.
šŸ™šŸ¼Sometimes the work we’re doing is not at all glorifying to God, and he’s asking us to set it down.
šŸ™ŒšŸ¼The Holy Spirit has a way of leading you to the exact people, places and things God wants you to be a part of.

Let go and lean in.
Walking with Jesus is an amazing ride.
So thankful for these life lessons.

Praying you all have opportunities this week to let go, lean in and learn something new about Jesus. He loves you!!!!!!

God’s Word gives lifešŸ™ŒšŸ¼šŸ„¹šŸ¤šŸ™šŸ¼

One of the healthiest things you can do for your body mind and soul is READ THE BIBLE!
God’s Word helps nourish us. Teach us. Guide us. Comfort us. And activates the power of the Holy Spirit to work within us.

My son, pay attention to my words;
listen closely to my sayings.
Don’t lose sight of them;
keep them within your heart.
For they are life to those who find them,
and health to one’s whole body.
Proverbs 4:20-22

Please, take a moment to read the Word every day. It’s life for your body.

In case you need a boostšŸ™ŒšŸ¼šŸ¤šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ¦‹
Never doubt that indeed your life has purpose.
God created you on purpose for a purpose.
Jesus Christ came to this earth to give you a hope and a future. And the purpose you have in Him is incredible!
The world may define purpose in achievement and possessions and power, but Jesus defines value according to heavens standards.
Humility, love, gratitude, service and living to glorify Him literally redefines life. Gives you a purpose you never imagined.
And satisfies your soul like nothing else.
Today remember this purpose.
Remember Jesus.
Be confident as His child.
You have value in Him.

I wish we were better at thisšŸ«¶šŸ¼ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹šŸ™ŒšŸ¼šŸ¤šŸ™šŸ¼

Denying yourself and taking up your cross to follow Jesus is a call to let go of selfishness, and the fleshy desire to be the center of your own universe. It’s a call to abandon the sin life and choose to walk in the salvation Jesus has freely given by His grace.

Following Jesus doesn’t mean to be unkind and unloving to yourself. Treating your mind, body and soul with respect is absolutely the Jesus way. Because every part of you is a gift to give back to God the creator. Your life is a sacrifice of praise to Him!

I’ve been working on this perspective myself. Seeing myself as Jesus’ loved one. Not pointing out my flaws or berating myself when I mess up. But speaking kindly to myself. Extending grace and mercy because JESUS IS THE SOURCE, the one who is giving it freely to me.
I’m not receiving His gift if I’m not being kind and loving to myself.

Hoping and praying you feel it too.

His grace gets sweeter with timešŸ„¹šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

Lately, I’ve been thinking about my grandma and how often she cried talking about Jesus. It seemed silly when I was younger. Like how come this happens every time?!
But now that I’m older, and I’ve needed Jesus to rescue me again and again, I COMPLETELY get emotional just thinking about how He’s saved me!
I’m literally a new person.
Saved, transformed, healed and growing in grace over and over again.
Miracle.

I hope today you get the chance to reflect on how the grace of Jesus has saved you.
And I kinda hope in honor of my grandma you shed a grateful tear or two.

Sometimes it has to hurt before it gets betteršŸ˜¢ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹
From giving birth without meds to months of cancer treatments, I’ve experienced this reality first hand.

Speaking of hand. . . Yesterday I got injections into the tendons and joint of my left thumb. It’s called prolotherapy. In simple terms, needles inject dextrose directly into the injured spots and trigger fresh pain so the body immediately begins a healing response from the inside out.
A hurt that will hopefully heal the hand that has been hurting for a few months.

God designed us to heal. But it’s rare that healing doesn’t hurt! The pain isn’t always physical. We can hurt mentally, emotionally and spiritually while we grow new and healthier mindsets, neuropathways, and habits. Physical healing of the body often involves inflammation, fevers, rest, breaking, stitching, burning, cutting. Hard realities.

It’s vital we keep our perspective heavenly. That we don’t fear the pain and hurt of healing. Because in many ways it’s a reminder that ultimately this life is about becoming more like Jesus. And that can also be painful. But isn’t it amazing how God designed us to heal!!! That we can become new creations physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually!

Whatever is hurting you today, consider Jesus. Maybe He’s asking you to release something. To change something. To break, mend, rest, or repair something. The hurt is a signal to tend to yourself physically, emotionally and mentally. Because God desires your healing.
Today I’m resting and praying and trusting the process.
Just wanted to share and hopefully encourage you along the way. And as always, your prayers are welcome and appreciated.šŸ™ŒšŸ¼šŸ’•šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ•Šļø

Sometimes I wish God would do the hard thing for me!
Sometimes I wait around, trusting and praying that God will make the change, but really He’s asking me to partner with Him. To initiate the hard conversation, set the boundaries, pursue the reconciliation, extend the helping hand, leave the past behind.
Following Jesus requires us to make hard choices daily. To pick up our cross and follow Him.
It’s a partnership with God. And partnerships require active choice. Yes we trust God. Yes God is in control.
But I am His partner and the Holy Spirit is with me and my faith without works is dead. I must choose to follow. I must do the work He’s asking me to do.
Philippians 2:12-13: ā€œContinue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to act and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.ā€

If you’re anything like me, I hope this verse is an encouraging reminder. God has initiated the work in us. But we are called to ā€œwork out our salvation.ā€ Choose today to make the choice.

The other day my friend Allie @agodfoundmess posted a reel about judging and being judged.

She was sharing from the story in 1 Samuel where Hannah is praying so fervently in the temple that the priest Eli, thinks she is drunk.
Allie shared about how we make false assumptions about people based only on what we see.

And, she did it all with a piece of anti-wrinkle tape on her forehead.

I only know she had that tape on her forehead because she mentioned it in her reel. If she hadn’t said anything I wouldn’t have noticed it.

I noticed what I wanted to see.
Allie is my friend, so I was happy to see her face and hear her voice. I wasn’t looking for anything else because I was focussed on listening to and seeing HER.

But, how often do we fixate on things that aren’t important?
How often do we judge someone based only on what we see, or what we think we know?

We judge without knowing the full story.
We overlook the flaws in our friends, yet harshly criticise someone we don’t even know. And this is even worse in the social media world.

ā€œFor you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?ā€ Matthew 7:2-3

I pray I am never so focussed on noticing other people’s flaws that I am blinded from seeing my own.

And I also pray that when I do notice a superficial flaw, I will have grace to see beyond it and genuinely see into the heart of the person behind it.

ā€œA friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.ā€ Proverbs 17:17

Let’s be friends who love and cheer each other on.

And, let’s be people who don’t notice each other’s forehead tape because we’re too busy noticing the person underneath.
