POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The other day my friend Allie @agodfoundmess posted a reel about judging and being judged.

She was sharing from the story in 1 Samuel where Hannah is praying so fervently in the temple that the priest Eli, thinks she is drunk.
Allie shared about how we make false assumptions about people based only on what we see.

And, she did it all with a piece of anti-wrinkle tape on her forehead.

I only know she had that tape on her forehead because she mentioned it in her reel. If she hadn’t said anything I wouldn’t have noticed it.

I noticed what I wanted to see.
Allie is my friend, so I was happy to see her face and hear her voice. I wasn’t looking for anything else because I was focussed on listening to and seeing HER.

But, how often do we fixate on things that aren’t important?
How often do we judge someone based only on what we see, or what we think we know?

We judge without knowing the full story.
We overlook the flaws in our friends, yet harshly criticise someone we don’t even know. And this is even worse in the social media world.

“For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?” Matthew 7:2-3

I pray I am never so focussed on noticing other people’s flaws that I am blinded from seeing my own.

And I also pray that when I do notice a superficial flaw, I will have grace to see beyond it and genuinely see into the heart of the person behind it.

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.” Proverbs 17:17

Let’s be friends who love and cheer each other on.

And, let’s be people who don’t notice each other’s forehead tape because we’re too busy noticing the person underneath.

Reminiscing day three.

This is my friend Allie @agodfoundmess

Allie and I first connected on Instagram way back in 2023. We very quickly realised we have kindred hearts for the same people and things.

When I was planning my USA trip last year my main destination was Oregon and when I realised that Allie lived in the next state, it was an opportunity too good to miss.

So I reached out to her - with a bit of trepidation I must admit, because it’s one thing to connect online but something else completely to see if you like each other in real life!

So, I reached out and she immediately invited me into her home.
We clicked, from the minute she picked me up from the airport.
For two days we shared our hearts. We talked. We dreamed. We laughed. We cried.
And we tried hilariously to impersonate each others accents 😂😂

She ordered my book, and it arrived while I was there, which was very exciting!

God always ordains our steps for a purpose.

And when those steps lead you to the blessing of a good friend across the other side of the world, it’s a truly special thing indeed. 🤗

Every once in a while you just ‘connect’ with someone you’ve never met. I have that kind of connection with a few of you on here 🫶

This week I was blessed to meet @agodfoundmess in person and spend a couple of days visiting with her. Words can’t describe how good it was. When two minds think, and two hearts beat with the same purpose, it’s a powerful thing.
We clicked like old friends and literally spent the entire day yesterday, and a lot of today sitting at her table - talking, sharing, crying, as well as laughing hysterically when we tried to imitate each others accents 😂🤣

In a very surreal moment, she had ordered my book and it was delivered today while I was there. It’s a very cool thing to see your book in a package sitting on a doorstep on the other side of the world, and be there when it’s opened!

Allie, I am so thankful for your hospitality and welcoming me into your home, grateful for our conversations, and blessed by our friendship.
I’m so glad we could make this happen.

Another friend inspired post today. Only this time it’s a friend I’ve never met… which is one of the beautiful things I love about this space - the connections I’ve made with like minded women all over the world as we all share the same heart to bring Gods love and wholeness to people who are hurting.

One of these women is a lady called Allie. Allie is the author of the Instagram page @agodfoundmess
She works with women in crisis and recently she wrote a post about women who find themselves in an unexpected pregnancy.

This, in part, is what she wrote - sharing with her permission.

“Here’s what I wish everyone knew about the women facing unexpected pregnancy in crisis situations:
1. They want someone to listen. In order for a woman to make a choice, she needs the space to think, speak, and be heard. Not told what to do.
2. They want love. The kind of love that looks at all angles of the situation, all the choices and consequences and says, “I love you even still.” Not judgement and shame.
3. They want hope. Hope to see a way out of the crisis and a future brighter than today. Help and resources that address the issues that caused the crisis to begin with. Not a quick solution.”

Listen - Love - Hope

It’s really not that much to ask.

To be heard - not judged.
To be loved - not condemned.
To be offered hope for the future - not a quick fix for the present.

I agree with Allie. I wish more people knew the complexities of a situation you can never fully understand unless you’ve been there.

I wish we could be less ‘teachers of the law’ and more ‘Jesus’.
And I wish more people understood how to do that.

I spent a beautiful few days at the Oaks (my happy place!) at a retreat for cancer survivors. I’ve always said that that was a club I never wanted to join, but now that I’m in it, I can only rave about how proud I am to be included in such a group of warriors. This event and these people brought me so much healing and joy and friendship. My cup runneth over. 🩷

Many thanks to @bobgoff and @timmonsmusic and @aaneff for creating such a sacred space for us. 🥰
