From our 1855 start as the Farmers' High School, agriculture has been at the core of the Penn State mission and identity.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Preparing for the future of Pennsylvania agriculture starts with collaboration.

At its fall meeting, Penn State Ag Council brought together agricultural leaders, researchers, students and alumni to discuss emerging threats, farm disease preparedness and solutions to protect the industry.

The meeting also celebrated the 2026 Ag Council Leadership Award recipients:

🏆 Leadership Award: Mike Brammer, Pennsylvania FFA Foundation
🏆 Leadership in Action Award: Penn State Extension Rural-Urban Leadership Program
🏆 Youth Leadership Award: Brooke Beamesderfer, Penn State agribusiness management student

Delegates also connected through small-group discussions, a town hall with Dean Troy Ott and college leadership, and a behind-the-scenes tour of Beaver Stadium. 🏈

Through knowledge sharing and leadership, Ag Council delegates are helping build a stronger, more resilient future for Pennsylvania agriculture. by @agsciences

From designing a campus courtyard as a Penn State student to leading her own landscape architecture firm, Kimberly Siran has built a career rooted in creativity, problem-solving and a love of the land. 🌿

Today, Kimberly is the founder and landscape architect behind Coaly Design, a North Carolina firm specializing in parks, greenways and site design. Her work brings together design and engineering to create spaces that are functional, beautiful and connected to their surroundings.

Penn State played a major role in giving her the foundation to make it all happen. Her landscape contracting education combined science, horticulture, art, business and design—interests she continues to bring together in her work today.

And her business name has a special Penn State connection. As a student, Kimberly designed the outdoor courtyard at the former Coaly’s Café in the HUB. Her design was selected and implemented, giving her one of her first opportunities to see her work become a built space.

That experience stayed with her.

“Penn State was critical for me academically, as well as becoming an independent and mature person,” Kimberly says.

Her advice to current students and young professionals is just as meaningful: give generously, build genuine relationships and never burn a bridge.

“You get back what you give.”

Today, Kimberly is proud to be part of the Ag Sciences community of people finding ways to solve problems and make the world a better place through research, education, service and design. 💙 by @agsciences

Science 🤝 advocacy 🤝 community outreach

Ava Ciabattoni, a fourth-year pharmacology and toxicology major, has been selected for the Rachel Carson Council’s 2026-27 National Environmental Leadership Fellowship.

Her fellowship campaign will build on research she conducted examining PFAS—commonly known as “forever chemicals”—in Pennsylvania streams and their potential connection to biosolids applied to agricultural fields.

Through the yearlong fellowship, Ava will continue exploring how science can inform environmental advocacy, policy and community action while working toward a future that combines research with outreach.

“My dream job is to be in a position where I can split my time between doing hard science and community outreach work,” she said. “I love working with people; I love outreach.” by @agsciences

Celebrating Pennsylvania 4-H and the young people making an impact across the Commonwealth! 💚

As part of #National4HWeek, Pennsylvania 4-H State Program Ambassadors and State Council members gathered at the state Capitol on Oct. 6 to share their 4-H experiences and highlight opportunities in leadership, citizenship, STEM, agriculture and workforce development.

Throughout the day, 4-H youth welcomed Capitol visitors, staffed exhibit tables, shared their stories and met with members of the Pennsylvania House and Senate to talk about the impact of 4-H in their communities.

The celebration also included a proclamation honoring Pennsylvania 4-H and its contributions to youth development, presented by Steph Hardman, deputy director of policy and legislation in the Office of Lt. Gov. Austin Davis.

Here’s to the young people, volunteers, educators and communities who make 4-H possible—and to the skills, experiences and confidence they’re building for the future. 🌱✨ by @agsciences

Our staff, volunteers, and interns carved out quite the outfits for our annual pumpkin harvest! 👢

🎃 Most of the pumpkins you'll see at Pumpkin Fest come from the Ag Research Farm, part of the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center at Rock Springs.

Intern or volunteer with the Arboretum, and this could be you next year! You already know what to wear. 😉 by @agsciences

Yesterday, Secretary Russell Redding and Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences Dean Troy Ott broke ground on a $65 million, 46,000-square-foot, two-story addition to the university's Animal Diagnostic Laboratory (ADL).

Penn State’s Animal Diagnostic Lab addition marks the third expansion of Pennsylvania’s world-class vet lab system this year — the upgraded lab will speed animal disease diagnoses, strengthen biosecurity, and help Pennsylvania farmers protect their animals, their farms, and their investments.

“Supporting cutting-edge research, diagnostic testing, and agricultural education at our land-grant universities like Penn State is critical to our nation’s economy, food security, and public safety. It is one of America’s most important and enduring public policies,” Sec. Redding said.

Meet Yam Bam and Boocha Boost. 🍠🍯🫚

They may not be household names, but these products show what our food science students can create.

Developed for national food product competitions, the two products gave students hands-on experience with formulation, food safety, research, marketing and more. Along the way, students worked with upperclassmen and graduate students, built industry connections and discovered new possibilities within food science.

One team even brought home first place. 🏆 by @agsciences

Many thanks to @pivotbio, who stopped at University Park before Penn State's Homecoming game to make a donation to the Agribusiness Management, Agronomy, and Dairy Science clubs.

Dean Ott was on hand to accept the donation along with members of the clubs.

The stop was part of the company's The Year of One Million Thanks Buddy Seat Tour, an effort to visit states around the nation to celebrate and thank farmers. by @agsciences
