@metmuseum brings together Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock, one of the most famous couples in American art, but this exhibition focuses on them as individual artists.

With 120+ works, Past Continuous shows how their styles developed and how they influenced each other. You’ll see Pollock’s famous drip paintings alongside Krasner’s experiments with color, collage, and abstraction.

It’s a great chance to see their work side by side and learn more about Krasner, whose career was often overshadowed by Pollock’s fame.

@thehaasbrothers bring their playful and slightly strange world to @marianneboeskygallery with Mathemagical.

Twin brothers Nikolai and Simon Haas mix art, design, math, and nature to create colorful sculptures and paintings. Many of the shapes and patterns are inspired by natural systems, but the final works feel more like creatures from another world.

Definitely one of the most fun and unexpected exhibitions on our list.

Maia Cruz Palileo uses family stories, archives, and memories of the Philippines to create colorful, dreamlike paintings.

This is also Palileo’s first presentation at the gallery’s New York space.

Fashion and art have always existed in conversation with one another. Designers look to paintings, sculpture, installation, performance, and entire artistic movements to find new ways of thinking about color, form, texture, and the body.

In celebration of New York Fashion Week, we’re looking back at moments when the boundary between the gallery and the runway became almost impossible to define.

From Van Gogh’s expressive sunflowers to Mondrian’s geometric compositions and Rebecca Horn’s mechanical installations, swipe through to see how artists and their ideas have found new life through fashion.

For Rodarte’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection, sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy entered the vivid world of Vincent van Gogh.

The collection drew from some of the artist’s most recognizable imagery, including his Sunflowers and The Starry Night. Van Gogh’s intense yellows, turquoise blues, greens, flowers, and swirling forms were translated into printed fabrics and dramatic silhouettes.

But the connection went beyond simply placing famous paintings onto dresses. Rodarte took elements of Van Gogh’s visual language, including his expressive color, movement, texture, and fascination with nature, and reimagined them through clothing.

The result feels almost like stepping inside one of his paintings. Art leaves the canvas, takes on a new form, and begins to move down the runway.

In 1965, Yves Saint Laurent created what would become one of the most recognizable intersections of modern art and fashion: the Mondrian dress.
Inspired by Piet Mondrian’s abstract compositions, Saint Laurent translated the artist’s signature black lines, white spaces, and blocks of primary color into the structure of a garment.

What makes the design especially interesting is that the Mondrian effect was not simply printed onto the dress. Individual sections of colored fabric were carefully pieced together, allowing the construction of the garment itself to recreate the geometry of a painting.
Mondrian transformed painting by reducing images to line, shape, and color. Saint Laurent took that same visual language and asked what would taken in Fashion Institute of Technology by @ahmp_association
