Documentary & Music Filmmaker, Videographer & Camera Operator based in Sheffield
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
My Instagram followers have doubled in the past year, so it seems like a good time to reintroduce myself.

My names Aidan and I'm a Camera Operator/Videographer/Filmmaker. I often direct, shoot and edit my own productions, but I also love getting to DOP/Cam Op for other teams.

My passion lies in documentary and music, and even more so when these two go hand in hand. I like makings films on inspiring people doing incredible things.

Here is my 2025 showreel, with heaps of new footage captured in the last year. 2024 was a massive year for me, and my first year as a full-time freelancer after leaving my last business.

Putting a showreel together like this makes me so proud of what I have achieved as a filmmaker so far, a younger version of me would be completely blown away by the opportunities I've had!

And I'm only just getting started. by @aidan.joseph

‘The world needs to be more connected now than ever.’ 🌍🫶

We had a lovely chat with @famorne_ from the Sheffield and District African Caribbean Community Association, @sadaccalimited.

Places like SADACCA are essential hubs of culture, creativity and community, helping to keep people across Sheffield connected.

The work they do to bring together communities helps to make Sheffield the welcoming, creative city it is today. 🏙️💛

City of Culture shortlist decision pending…🤞

📹: Massive thanks to @aidan.joseph for the video as ever.

From Sheffield to screens around the world! 📺🙌

For the latest in our City of Culture interview series, we caught up with @instasham27 from @warpfilms, the award-winning Sheffield based production company behind the likes of Adolescence, This is England and Four Lions to name a few.

Based right here in Sheffield, they’re helping put the city on the map, and showcasing its potential as a backdrop for film and television. 🎬📽️

Keeping everything crossed for that shortlist decision! 🤞

📹: Massive thanks to @aidan.joseph for another great edit.

I filmed with comedian @jonrichardsoncomedian a few weeks ago as he was recording the audiobook for his latest release - The Teenage Diaries of a Stand-Up Comedian.

A first time collaboration for me with @littlebrownbookgroup_uk - and lovely to meet Jon in the Hachette UK studio!

The videos will be trickled out on his socials over the coming weeks, and I was lucky to receive a copy in the mail this week!

As we get closer to finding out if Sheffield has been shortlisted for UK City of Culture 2029, we’re revisiting our summer bid campaign and celebrating some of the incredible people that make up Sheffield’s culture sector.

@newmanejdirector, Artistic Director of @sheffieldtheatres, sat down with us to talk about storytelling, creativity and the impact of the largest theatre complex outside of London.

Producing world-class shows that go on to reach audiences in the West End, Broadway and beyond. 🎭✨

📹: Huge thanks, as ever, to @aidan.joseph for the fantastic edit. Keep an eye out for more spotlights to come.

There’s still a few days left to catch Open Works festival, so make sure to catch it while it’s here.

I am beyond thrilled to share my first TV advert - 'All Girls, By Design'

Produced and directed by myself.

I knew when the amazing marketing team at Sheffield High School for Girls approached me to lead on this short film that it would be a career defining moment for me, and I am so unbelievably proud to have brought this project from an idea to TV screens around the Sheffield region.

I cannot understate the energy and passion that went into this project. Months and months of working behind the scenes, developing creative ideas, co-ordinating and producing the entire project from concept right through to Clearcast delivery.

Thank you to Hannah Margerison & Rebecca Mills for believing in me and being the best clients I've ever worked with. You guys deserve as much credit as I do for bringing this project together - the dream team!!!

Shot on Arri Alexa Mini by the incredible Jordan Carroll - this commercial has been a major step-up for me creatively and it brings me so much joy to see my artistic vision come to life through the wonderful work of all the creatives who contributed.

What a joy it has been to take a full 3 weeks off work.

For anyone that knows me - I'm a bit of a workaholic! Especially since going freelance, I have found it very difficult to turn down opportunities and I'm often spreading myself very thin. Of course I'm immensely proud of my work ethic and the films I manage to create along the way, but as I get older (a ripe old 31 years of age!!!!) it is becoming more obvious the importance of slowing down and enjoying life along the way.

I have had an incredible time throughout August - I attended Boomtown festival with some close friends and frolicked in the scorching heat, lounged around for a week nursing my hangover and watching movies, then spent a week with my partner up in Scotland.

Naturally, I had to take some cameras with me (5 to be exact🤣) and capture some of the stunning landscapes the country has to offer. It's important for me to reconnect with why I love my job so much, and just shoot with no objective at all - just for the pure joy of creating.

I had no real intention of creating anything in particular after-the-fact, but here is a short collection of some frames I captured whilst I was away. We are so incredibly lucky with what is on offer on this little island of ours. I still feel as though I barely scratched the surface of the country. Itching to go back!

Now I'm back to work and feeling refreshed & reenergised.

Excited to hit the ground running with a handful of projects in September, and I'm excited to see what the rest of my year has to offer!

Let's get it 💪 by @aidan.joseph

Probably my favourite edit I've ever created for @razesoundsystem when they took their full rig out to @theunderground.bristol (R.I.P) with the @1985music crew.

Massive love to @theblastbristol for having us down.

Need to get back in front of a big stinking rig with my camera sometime soon 😤😤😤 by @aidan.joseph

The biggest project of my career comes to an end.

Over the past 8 weeks, I have been working tirelessly on a 7 part video series for Marketing Sheffield & Culture Sheffield in support of Sheffield’s City of Culture 2029 bid.

You can see the full series (in widescreen) on the City of Culture website here: https://culture.sheffield.gov.uk/our-city-culture

Today our final film is released at noon - celebrating Sheffield’s homegrown approach to blending our arts & culture with the breath-taking nature that is interwoven throughout the city.

I cannot overstate what a monumental challenge this project has been. Five days after our initial meeting about the project, we had our first shoot - and the tempo has remained at full speed from the get-go.

I filmed with 18 contributors that boldly represent Sheffield in a huge range of cultural pursuits, each with their own story to tell. I spent countless long, focused hours carving these stories into thematic narratives that captured the essence of Sheffield’s heritage and our forward-thinking ethos, from grassroots to global.

With each film being released weekly, I have had to work FAST. I set the bar with our first film as high as I could, and I feel throughout the series I have maintained (if not raised) that bar with each following instalment.

I am absolutely overflowing with pride. When the going got tough, I rose to the challenge and charged forward with determination.

This feels like a career defining project for me as a filmmaker and I am just so, so thankful to Murray Wood and Kate Reveley for their belief and trust in me throughout.

I could not have done this project alone. Thank you to all the contributors for helping to bring this project to life - I feel like I’ve met half the city over the course of this project and I am immensely grateful to every one of you.

Now, I will be taking a 3 week break to recharge. (The longest break from work I’ve taken in the last 8 years….. I work too hard haha).

I feel like I’ve earnt it. by @aidan.joseph

Here it is! The final episode in the City of Culture video series.

And it feels amazing to go out on such a beautiful note - celebrating the incredible nature that surrounds our city and the ways in which our arts & culture scene embraces it with open arms.

There's no place on earth quite like Sheffield, and the natural beauty we are so very lucky to have around us is one of the key reasons I love to call this city my home.

From the street art that reflects our rivers and canals, to my fellow filmmakers that capture the elegant environments we have at our fingertips - this episode has been an absolute joy to create.

Massive thanks to @_peachzz_ @andrewvickersartist and @frit_happens from @sheffieldadventure

What a way to close out the series.

Fingers crossed we're onto the next stage of the bid - we know Sheffield bloody deserves it! by @aidan.joseph
