Today, we make history. aimgeorgia.org 143 of Georgia’s 159 counties are federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas. Ten Georgia counties had no physician at all in 2024. Nationally, the shortage runs deeper than doctors. The United States is projected to be short more than 100,000 healthcare workers by 2028, and the steepest gaps are not in the roles people picture first. Nursing assistants alone account for a projected deficit of 73,000. Technicians, nurse practitioners, and the people who hold health systems together are all in it. Behind every one of those numbers is a family waiting longer than they should. The answer was already here, in the young people of this city, already brilliant, already ready. They needed a road. So we built it, with this community, for this community. The Academy for Innovation in Medicine is Atlanta’s first tuition-free STEMM public charter school, science, technology, engineering, math, and medicine, built in partnership with Grady Health System. Through that partnership, our scholars enter the pathways of medicine in the sixth grade, not in college. Mentorship at Grady, clinical shadowing, research, leadership development, and paid internships open across every discipline by the eleventh grade. This is a hospital growing its own future workforce, across every role, raised by the very community it serves. Today, that plan becomes real. To the families who trusted us before a building existed. To the founding scholars who chose to be first. To the learning facilitators who built this from conviction and long nights. To every partner who understood that a pathway is the only durable answer: you did not fund a school. You funded a generation of Healthcare Heroes. AIM WEEKLY — your weekly recap at AIM. Grady Immersion Days continue at AIM. This week, scholars put on gloves and worked hands-on with airway mannequins, ventilators, and lung models. They learned how clinicians support a patient's breathing, practiced with the same tools used at the bedside, and asked questions of the professionals who use them every day. This is the AIM difference: clinical learning isn't saved for someday. It's part of how scholars learn right now, through our partnership with @gradyhealth Applications for the 2027–2028 school year are now open, and 2026–27 seats are still available.
