The Academy for Innovation in Medicine (AIM) is officially open at Uptown, bringing a new approach to education that prepares the next generation of healthcare leaders through hands-on learning, real-world experience and a STEMM-focused curriculum.

In our latest Tenant Spotlight, hear from Dr. Kristy Beam, AIM’s Founder, CEO and Co-Principal, about the school’s mission and why Uptown was the perfect place to call home. From easy access to MARTA to having great neighbors like White Windmill and The Happiness Hatch just steps away, AIM is already becoming part of the Uptown community.

We’re excited to welcome @aim_georgia to the neighborhood! ❤️

Cultures of care do not happen by accident. They are built. 💙

I absolutely love supporting cultures of care in organizations, and it is work I get to do all over the country. So of course I am bringing it to the project nearest and dearest to my heart: the Academy for Innovation in Medicine, the first health science charter school in Georgia. Our brilliant staff and learning facilitators are preparing the next generation of healthcare heroes, and they deserve to be poured into too.

For this work, I am partnering with some of my favorite and most talented clinicians and wellness practitioners, and I cannot wait to introduce each of them. First up is someone very special to me: Dr. Shawn Garrison, licensed clinical psychologist, assistant professor, and Director of Counseling Services at Morehouse School of Medicine.

She and I have been partners in purpose for more than 10 years, from supporting medical students and residents together, to my time as her Associate Director, to Free Thinkers, where she is now my clinical partner. She helped train me, she challenges me, and she is my friend and soul sister. Having her beside me in this work is a gift.

This season, we are leaning into Myers-Briggs, StrengthsFinder, PACE, and other professional development opportunities that strengthen our emotional intelligence. As we grow our EQ, we learn more about ourselves and how we think, work, and collaborate. Because when we understand the people behind the mission, we build a culture where everyone feels seen, supported, respected, and valued. And yes, we are having fun along the way.

AIM, you are in extraordinary hands. See you tomorrow! Come ready with that one system you can explain in 60 seconds or less. 😉

"“I miss kids. I miss classrooms.” 💚

As a former educator, Ayana Gabriel Turner knows there’s something different about seeing possibility come to life inside a school.

For Ayana, visiting the Academy for Innovation in Medicine (AIM) was one of those moments. She saw students excited about a school designed to connect their education to real opportunities in healthcare and a future they can begin preparing for now.

It’s a reminder of what expanding access can make possible: more pathways, more choices and more opportunities for students to imagine what comes next.

A SIXTH GRADER. In medical scrubs. 👀

Tafari Bradford told me he didn’t even know what scrubs were before starting at his new school!

Now, every Wednesday, he and his classmates suit up and head into hands-on learning with Grady Health System staff as part of a one-of-a-kind partnership designed to introduce students to the world of healthcare.

I had the chance to visit the @aim_georgia and report on this fascinating new venture for @atlantamagazine.

And the coolest part? This innovative charter school is right off Piedmont Road, and they’re actively enrolling! Story link in bio 🏥

This is what it looks like when lawmakers see the future firsthand.

Dr. Ken Kemp worked with Rahn Mayo to bring Senator Adrienne White and Representative Bryce Berry to tour the Academy for Innovation in Medicine, Georgia’s first healthcare-focused STEM charter school, which opened its doors just days ago.

Thank you to Dr. Kristy Beam, Dr. Nikkita Warfield, and Eric González for opening your doors. Future healthcare heroes really do start here.

Partnered with Grady Health System, AIM blends rigorous academics with real clinical experience, so students can graduate with a high school diploma and an associate degree, tuition free.

Walking the sim labs and classrooms, the conversation turned to what matters most: the school’s early wins, and the support its leaders need from legislators to keep building.

This schools is setting our students up for success in the real world. They even have uniform scrubs for Wednesday clinical.

When schools like this succeed, whole communities get healthier.

📍 Tuition-free for rising 6th & 9th graders.

There are many ways to create lasting impact. For me, one of the most meaningful is helping ensure that opportunity reaches young people long before they begin making career decisions.

That’s why I proudly serve on the Board of the Academy for Innovation in Medicine (AIM) in partnership with Grady Health System. I believe every young person with a passion for healthcare deserves a real pathway to get there.

AIM is Atlanta’s first tuition-free STEMM public charter school, built in partnership with Grady Health System. Our founding scholars receive Grady mentorship, clinical shadowing, real-world experiences, and a pathway that can ultimately lead to employment with one of the nation’s leading healthcare systems.

As someone who has spent my career creating opportunities through education, leadership, and philanthropy, I know that access changes lives. AIM is doing exactly that by preparing the next generation of healthcare leaders.

Our Founding Class is enrolling now.

If you know a family with a student who is curious about science, medicine, or healthcare, please share this opportunity.
