I Can Fly x 2! Ruth Krauss' 1950 classic Little Golden Book illustrated by Mary Blair was reissued in 1978 with artwork by Jan Brett. I've been meaning to do a side-by-side comparison for ages. What do you think? Do you like both? Personally, I'm a fan of both illustrators, but Mary Blair's original version is quite brilliant and a tough act to follow. Her ideas and artistry were really on another level, I think. 🐄 🐇 🐁 🐪 🦉 🪱 Let's also notice the clever simplicity of Krauss' text, by the way. "My house is / like a mouse's" is probably my favorite line. ❤️ Some textual changes do occur between 1950 and 1978 (for example, the old screech owl becomes a wild screech owl), though "gubble gubble gubble / I'm a mubble in a pubble" persists, for better or worse. #maryblair #janbrett #ruthkrauss #littlegoldenbooks #vintagelittlegoldenbook by @aimeehagertyjohnson
