The poem that inspired it all…

Do you sometimes want to wake up to the singularity
we once were?
so compact nobody
needed a bed, or food or money—
nobody hiding in the school bathroom
or home alone
pulling open the drawer
where the pills are kept.
For every atom belonging to me as good
Belongs to you.   Remember?
There was no   Nature.    No
 them.   No tests
to determine if the elephant
grieves her calf    or if
the coral reef feels pain.    Trashed
oceans don’t speak English or Farsi or French;
would that we could wake up   to what we were
—when we were ocean    and before that
to when sky was earth, and animal was energy, and rock was
liquid and stars were space and space was not
at all—nothing
before we came to believe humans were so important
before this awful loneliness.
Can molecules recall it?
what once was?    before anything happened?
No I, no We, no one. No was
No verb      no noun
only a tiny tiny dot brimming with
is is is is is
All   everything   home

Over the moon to be named a 2026 Utah Artist Fellow 💫! Incredibly honored for this recognition by @utahartsandmuseums and juror @radams1982 , in the company of artists I respect and admire.

Receiving the fellowship after multiple years of applying makes this recognition especially meaningful. I am forever grateful for the friends, family, colleagues, and institutions that have championed my work in small and mighty ways to help me get here. Thank you 🫶

“Aimee Odum’s bizarre and materially rich sculptural and digital installations blur the boundaries between technology, ecology, and human perception, constructing uncanny environments that feel simultaneously seductive, humorous, and unsettling. Combining ceramic forms with glitch-based digital processes, interactive media, and AI-generated interventions, her work explores the increasingly inseparable relationship between the tactile world and contemporary systems of technological engagement.”

Human teeth, a metallic object, and a red glove. 🥊

This is what the concept of “doomscrolling” prompted AI to generate a few years ago. As AI evolves, so does the text-to-image sophistication. However, I choose to stick with the simplicity of its original associations - a primitive-like symbolism for the human-technology relationship that is all-consuming.

INFINITY LOOP, is influenced by the compulsion to scroll…and scroll…and scroll, stuck in the design Aza Raskin created in 2006 to keep content endlessly flowing.

The ceramic stoneware base is connected to metallic industrial tubing to form an infinity symbol - speckled with amoeba-like purple and pink porcelain chunks holding casts of human teeth, and draped with a ruby red glove.

In a way, it serves as a homage to a specific point in time when AI was just starting to get to know us.

A joy to have 3 pieces in the @swcontemporary 2026 Benefit Art Auction 🏜️ including, Sagebrush Dreams.

Bidding ends 9/6 at 6PM Mountain (🔗 in bio)

It’s been absolute magic working with SWC this past year as one of their inaugural Artist Marketing Grant recipients so I can speak first hand to the amazing work they do elevating and supporting contemporary art. A huge shout out to @yes.trespassing and @obscuratorial

Sagebrush Dreams is a study on sagebrush and memory. The plant is plentiful across Utah, and its grounding, unmistakable aroma is a force of quiet resilience - often serving as a metaphor for loss, health, and everything in between.

The foundation of all my work is about our dance with technology and nature. In this sagebrush study I consider how I recall experiences from a photo I took verses the actual moment in real time. 🌙

Sagebrush Dreams, 2025, glazed ceramic, framed, 9.25 x 11.25 x 1.75 in.

I’m thrilled to share I will have work in exhibition, Rarely Named, curated by @_nancy_rivera with @craftlakecity 💫

Join us for the reception this Wed. 9/2 from 3-7 PM at newly constructed @artspace_utah

I will be presenting two pieces, including a new work, Pod Field, pictured, which is an installation of 7 ceramic capsules bearing memories of grief, joy, and imagination, translated into binary code onto the surface. 👾

📍 511 W 200 S SLC, UT 84101

Rarely Named—The exhibition brings together ten artists whose practices are rooted not in a shared subject matter, but in a shared way of moving through the world. Working across different media and themes, these artists approach making as a form of sustained attention—through repetition, observation, care, and material inquiry. Their works do not seek definitive answers so much as they create the conditions for noticing.

The exhibition takes its title, Rarely Named, from the kinds of experiences these artists explore in their work that often resist easy language. Whether reflecting on contemporary politics, our relationship with technology and the natural world, the search for belonging, or the impacts of chronic illness, each artist uses artmaking as a way of understanding experiences that are often felt more deeply than they can be articulated. These are experiences that are very rarely named, yet they quietly shape how we see ourselves and relate to one another.

The Anthropocene— A fancy word to describe humans as their own worst enemy.

I created this sculpture in collaboration with an AI art-generating app in 2022-23 when text and image input models first became widely accessible. Out of curiosity, I wanted to know how an algorithmic interpretation of humanity’s impact on the Earth would look like.

To push the boundaries of AI processing, I shared abstract, clay works-in-progress of raw forms. What peaked my interest was the simple symbolism of ambiguous waste and ash that showed up consistently across the images no matter how much I tried to manipulate it. From there I selected the most interesting composition to create a sculpture from.

The result is a dance between perceptions that are my own, computer-generated, and a source of mass input on how we as humans are effecting the changes in our environment - a concept that is a reality, especially here in Utah, with the rise of potential data center builds, land use disputes, and increase in forest fires.

The Anthropocene, Glazed ceramic, epoxy clay, hydrocal, sand, 54,5 x 38 x 17 in. 2023

The Anthropocene (AI), AI-collaborative image, giclee print, 15 X 13 in. 2023
