On Thursday, my dad passed away peacefully at home after a years long battle with cancer. I’m grateful he isn’t suffering anymore and thankful for all the bonus time I had with him.

The days are a blur right now as we make preparations to honour his life, but a few things stand out in my mind as I contemplate his 83 years…his love of food, his dedication to the arts, his wonder at the natural world, his love for family, and in the end, his long suffering. ❤️‍🩹 I can only hope to hold such grace when it is my time to go.

Obviously we are devastated. My siblings, mother and I will reunite early next week and the healing can begin. 💔

John Russell, we’re spinning a few records for you tonight 🎶

Thankful to live here 🙌🏻 by @aimeeofns

Came across my mother’s family recipe book, started in the 90’s. We’re packing up their home on beautiful Cortes Island and relocating them closer to family in the Interior of BC.

I had to pause and flip through this cookbook; it’s filled with memories and menus, Christmas Dinners past, and picnic ideas.

My mum still cooks from this handwritten tome, but one day I’ll inherit it and who knows, maybe publish a. Few gems. 📖

September skies. 🧡 This year the shift was immediate: Cooler temps. A crispness. Yesterday I kept getting pulled outside by the dramatic clouds forming over the lake. At Sunset, everything turned golden - a true September sky. 🙌🏻 by @aimeeofns

Did you know that there are still farm stands and roadside bakeries all across Nova Scotia and indeed Canada that operate with the honour system?

There’s a cash box to leave your money, sometime a change box to make change and a calculator.

I visited two this weekend while camping in Cape Breton with the family. We stocked up on local stone fruits, fresh eggs, sourdough and cookies thanks to @ourharvestfarmshop and The Red Shed Farm Market just outside of St Peter’s NS. 🍅🫐🍪🍯

Yeah, this is something we can still do in Canada because we’re wholesome like that. 💗

Now is the time to support local and buy Canadian. 🇨🇦

Je peux répéter en français si tu veux… 😉

POV: you spend a day on the South Shore of Nova Scotia and see where the road takes you. 🌊

Cookbook Club Excursion! Our gatherings are always too short so we planned a day together to ramble the coast and share a few meals. 🧺

📍 @hubbardsbarn Saturday market
📍 @driftersrest for a farm tour & brunch
📍 @4pointsmarket Always an experience!
📍 @thepointgeneral for cold drinks & gift shopping
📍 @therosebaygeneral for snacks
📍 Hirtle’s Beach for a picnic and long walk
📍 Ending at @diymom.ca family home on the ocean for girl dinner 🥂

We might have to make it an annual event! A wonderful way to welcome August….views, sand, surf, markets and much more.

Make yourselves at home I guess? 😆 🦆 These feathered friends have come every day since they were babies. Mama Duck would get them all up on the dock and then have a nap.

Now they are all teenagers, too cool for school!

The weather is always unpredictable in Nova Scotia, but when the sun comes out at the beach, it’s worth every second of agonizing over rain clouds. 🌊 You gotta pack up and go, no matter what! 🏖️

A spectacular Sunday at @novascotiaparks Rissers Beach 🙌🏻

June loading….🐝 💐🫜🌿

It’s a late spring, but patience pays off. So many beautiful blooms in my garden! And lots of little sprouts popping out of the ground. 🌱

Spring is in the air. A return to forest hikes in the late afternoon. Birdsong. A tinge of sun on the cheeks. A welcome warmth after a long winter. 🥾 by @aimeeofns
