Important life skills!

The boys were big fans of these (both the making & the eating) — a fudgier, more nutrient dense brownie made with purple sweet potatoes🍠

What you need:

1 cup cooked, smoothly mashed sweet potato
2 eggs, room temperature
½ cup maple syrup
¼ cup melted butter, cooled slightly
2 teaspoons vanilla
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
⅓ cup all-purpose flour
¼ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup chocolate chips + more for the top
1–3 tablespoons milk, only as needed

What to do:

1. Cook the potatoes: Peel and cut into roughly 1-inch chunks. Steam for 20–30 minutes, or until they mash easily with no firm bits. Mash or blend until smooth, then cool before measuring.
2. Heat the oven to 350°F. Line an 8 × 8-inch metal or glass baking pan with parchment.
3. Whisk together the sweet potato, eggs, maple syrup, butter and vanilla.
4. Stir in the cocoa, flour, baking powder and salt, just until combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
5. Check the texture: The batter should be thick but easily spreadable. If it feels stiff like dough, stir in milk 1 tablespoon at a time.
6. Spread into the pan, top with more choc chips and bake for 20-25 mins. Start checking at 20 minutes: the edges should be set and a toothpick in the center should have moist crumbs. Don’t over bake! They’ll set more as they cool.
7. Cool completely before cutting. by @aimwell_

1 orange, sliced
2–3 sprigs rosemary
2–3 cinnamon sticks

The most underrated, low-effort movement to fit into real life — especially mom life. It’s the one thing that’s consistently kept me sane through pregnancy, postpartum + the little kid years.

WFH? Walking pad.
Soccer practice? Walk the sidelines.
School nearby? Skip the car line.
Kids need outside? Stroller/carrier walk.

When you finally shed the “hour-long workout or it doesn’t count” mentality and start doing little things throughout the week that you actually enjoy + can fit into your daily life, that’s where the shift happens. Eventually movement stops being a decision and just becomes part of your day🤸🏽‍♀️🤸🏽‍♀️🤸🏽‍♀️ by @aimwell_

Sunday dopamine > Sunday scaries by @aimwell_

I genuinely enjoy making food from scratch, but the payoff has to be worth the time and effort. If it doesn’t taste better than store-bought, save us money, or give us multiple meals/uses, I’m buying it.

These are the things I’ve been making most recently, easy enough to fit into pockets of our busy weekends and actually worth the effort.

1. Deli meat: Better tasting, cheaper, and surprisingly easy. We smoke a chicken or turkey, refrigerate overnight, then thinly slice for the week.
2. Bread: Sandwich bread, English muffins, dinner rolls, boules — basically all of it is worth it for the taste + joy.
3. Jam: Insanely easy with ingredients we always have on hand — frozen berries, lemon, maple syrup, chia seeds + hemp hearts.
4. Cookie dough: A freezer stash of cookie dough balls means warm cookies are always ~15 minutes away. After-school treat, teacher gift, postpartum drop-off, you name it.
5. Tomato sauce: Low-effort, freezes beautifully, and makes multiple meals better with very little actual work. by @aimwell_

It’s a really, really nice place to be (says the girl who used to be afraid of egg yolks and whole milk🥲) by @aimwell_

Lunchbox freezer stash, volume 3🌮🌮🌮

Flautas, rolled tacos, whatever you want to call these — they’re a family favorite around here, so they’ve become one of those dinners I always make extra of to freeze for lunches.

Thin layer of refried beans, taco meat + cheese, rolled up and pan-fried. Cut in half, freeze, then straight into the lunchbox from the freezer. They thaw nicely by lunchtime (about 3–4 hours for us). by @aimwell_

Raising two boys, working a 9–5, running a small business with my husband, and all the general upkeep of life in between means there’s very little margin for making things harder than they need to be. Having a solid foundation in place to cover the bases makes all the difference.

Nothing groundbreaking. Just outsourcing where it makes the most sense for our family, making the food and movement pieces as foolproof as humanly possible, and knowing (more importantly, being at peace with the fact) that not everything is going to get 100% every day.
