ONLINE EXCLUSIVE šŸšØšŸ””šŸšØ
TIME OF MISFORTUNE (2006) by FARAH AL QASIMI @frequentlyaskedquestion

In Time of Misfortune, Farah Al Qasimi approaches history through a child’s eyes. Her own drawings from age five, including a headless camel and a falling plane, appear alongside pigeons, domestic interiors, bilingual text, and montages of burning oilfields and pop-culture imagery. The work reads like a dreamlike scrapbook of early memory.Ā  Lines that sound like a child accidentally casting a spell hint at the work’s central concerns.

Originally presented as an installation, the 18-minute video was shown alongside sound, vinyl, and inkjet prints at La Biennale di Venezia. Courtesy of the National Pavilion UAE

Big thank you to the dearest and brilliant Farah 🧿 what a pleasure to share this!
