386 days we’ve been counting down for this trip and it’s finally here, off to Whistler for the first UCI DH World Cup in BC in 25 years! It’s been a painful wait yet the timing seems perfect as I now can share this moment with my wife and two girls who all love the sport as much as I do myself. On top of that it’s on a track that celebrates the legacy of my favourite racer of all time and Canadian legend Stevie Smith❤️. It’s more than just a race for me, it a celebration of life and the beauty of DH mountain biking itself. This sport has shaped my life in so many ways, I met my wife through biking had two beautiful girls and now I get to watch them grow into riders themselves and see them falling in love with the sport the same way I did. I started riding when I was 18 and now am 47, strangely I feel better on my bike now than I ever have. I’ve had many big wrecks but with time I always seem to get back to that desire to keep pushing myself because that’s when I feel the most alive. Can’t wait to watch the world best this weekend on the gnarliest track I’ve ever seen first hand. I hope they send it for Stevie Smith, I now his spirit will be there with us all. Exactly 15 year ago to the day @travisrice rolled into @revelstokemtnresort with Brain Farm productions to film segment for a movie called Art of Flight. They reached out to my grooming department to mount a cineflex camera onto a winch cat and asked me to drive the cat to add motion the shot. At the time was hands down the most high tech filming I had ever seen and a highlight of the day was watching Travis attempt on one of the most bad ass shoots I’d ever seen. Unfortunately Travis had to shut it down mid line to manage the massive sluff slide that was chasing him down the mountain and made it not worthy to put in the film. Once the sluff passed I saw him send a double drop at the bottom that completely blew my mind🤯. This line he later named Bar Fight. Fast forward 15 years and I’m still processing the level of riding and production I just witnessed this week from that exact same area now known as @naturalselectionsnow venue. Never in my wildest dreams did think I would be part of a movement that has defined big mountain freestyle snowboarding. @travisrice it’s been an absolute honour to be part of this journey, thank you for the opportunity. Your team formed by @liamgriffin and @brick_wroth are some of the hardest working individuals I’ve ever met and I’m a lucky guy to have the opportunity to work alongside this pack of special humans. To my boss Mike Verway thank you for supporting projects of this magnitude and pushing to be one of the best resorts on the planet. Long winded appreciation post… Many years ago I figured out a line down Separate Reality with a winch cat to produce a very unique run, it’s taken a long hiatus for multiple reasons but last night all the stars aligned and we put it back in for the first time since 2019. For myself it’s a very special experience to ski it and I love to hang out at the bottom after my run a watch public come down and celebrate with high fives, knucks and big smiles. As an operator it’s an incredibly challenging task and one that takes 100% focus and commitment but in the end it’s always about the people and the joy of surfing down a chalky mountainside. On top of that … Hot Sauce Devils Club, Snow Rodeo TTB, fantastic park laps and cranking Snowmaking system. It takes years to form a Team that keeps returning each winter and is the sole reason for this success, something I’m incredibly proud of. To my team I thank you! We groomed in flow state last night putting all our skills and experience together to put out a day that some people will remember for the rest of their lives! You don’t hear this enough but I’m so proud of every one of you! Our passion for the trade shined bright today but it does so many other days as well and I can’t thank you all enough! When mother natures cooperates the runs we groom stand with the rest of the biggest resorts around the world. Shift work, long nights and solitude you all sacrifice so much to make dreams come true for myself and so many others💙 To my right hand man @nilo_in_revy, you have been alongside me for all of RMRs existence and you have had my back every step of the way! I feel extremely lucky to have crossed paths with you in life, we share the same passion for grooming, a way of life not just a job. Appreciation Post! @kat_dawg420 @walkerveitch55 @bikerevelstoke. Absolutely honoured to have these legends come together and re construct a stunt I started in 2007! For over a decade the Valmorphanizer stood as a staple move of the Boulder mountain trail network but after its death (which happened under my tires) I was over the moon to hear @bikerevelstoke had mad planes to put a new one right beside my original. Good thing they chose two of the best builders I know in @kat_dawg420 and @walkerveitch55, guys I have loads of respect for in the building world. The dedication and skillz required to build something like Valmorphanizer 2.0 are nothing short of incredible, it takes a special person and years of practice to accomplish something of this magnitude. Today I went with @kat_dawg420 for my crack at the new version, and at 46 years old I’m stoked to just be able to ride a move like this. Arrogantly I though I would show up and jump right in but the move took me back to 2008 when I hit mine the first time, I felt nervous palm started sweating and I realized this is really what this moves always been about, pushing yourself slightly out of that comfort zone🤘. As a 46 year old rider, I’ve been following @robwarner970 career since the early Freecaster days. His voice and demeanour has been a part of so many incredible memories in the DH world, from Danny Harts epic World Champs to my boy @steviesmithdh taking his overall. His commentary is unmatched and his passion for the sport is inspirational.
