𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮-𝗝𝗮𝗱𝗲 (Tainui/Samoa) (@ajhoneysuckle) is a Tāmaki-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice centres on an exploration of mana motuhaketanga, pūrakau, memory, and Pacific-punk through airbrush painting, sound, and installation.

Her current solo exhibition at @grace_aotearoa, 𝓘𝓼𝓵𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓛𝓸𝓿𝓮 𝓝𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓻 𝓖𝓲𝓿𝓮 𝓤𝓹, sees an interweaving of these forms and reflections, bringing together these three mediums into a new vibration that echoes within the gallery space, connecting sound, emotion, shared memory, and power.

Inspired by a trip to Samoa in 2024, the show takes these sonic and visual memories into the works as an ode to these recollections. The viewer is greeted into the space first by a sound installation sitting on a large floral polypropylene mat held in these polystyrene containers – pulling and enwrapping the viewer in this circular, distant drum loop, posing the question: what frequency is the ocean?

In the other room, Anahera-Jade presents a beautiful body of airbrushed paintings. Like memories, some manifest vividly, and others more hazy – illuminating their core and associated imagery rather than their whole; merging them with these dreamy, soft gestures, embellishments, and forms, bringing them into a new visual or sonic landscape.
