Most clothing manufactured today is not made to fit ANYONE. If you buy something and it doesn’t fit how you think it is “supposed” to, THAT IS NOT YOUR FAULT OR YOUR BODY’S FAULT. Your body is NOT the problem!! The clothes are!!!!!!

Creating mass market fashion has sooo many steps (check out @clotheshorsepodcast for some great details on how and why clothes are Like That These Days) and sometimes that means that the real people with actual physical bodies aren’t prioritized along the way (especially in plus sizes).

One good way to recalibrate your thinking on this is to stop thinking “my arms are too big” and start thinking “these sleeves are too small.” You don’t have a “weird torso”!! That company has a weird sizing structure!!!

One big reason I love sewing and making clothes is that minor alterations can make a major difference in how things look and feel. You don’t have to love your body, but you do have to live in it. Let your clothes help you do that by making THEM work for YOU and not the other way around. by @ajlobster

I got this She*n skirt at a clothing swap and wore it maybe once or twice when I worked at an office, but it was too fitted to wear at Merry Pin, so I refashioned it into an apron! This involved:
- unpicking the zipper
- trimming the seams
- ironing everything flat
- trimming the back panel so it could be a pocket that matched with the pattern on the front
- sticking the pocket panel on with washable tape so it stayed in the right place
- serging the edges
- ironing the edges down
- sewing the edges
- sewing the divisions between the pockets
- sewing on the ties (just some black twill tape I had lying around; I’m finding so far that I prefer a sturdier and thicker apron tie)

Next up: a full-front apron made of some spooky cat fabric (better get going on that one lol) by @ajlobster

Great news! I found this shirt that’s been at the bottom of my mending pile for 3 years and now that I have a job where I wear an apron every day, I like the way it fits. Let this be a lesson to procrastinate so long that you don’t actually need to do the task 😌 #ootd by @ajlobster

Got a great compliment from my target audience (4 to 9 year old girls) re: this outfit when a kindergartener in a pink and purple checked dress looked at me like 🤩 and her mom said “wow, do you love her skirt?” and the little girl said “yes” in this very hushed tone. Her mom said “what’s your favorite color?” and she screamed “RAINBOW” and I said “ME TOO” #ootd by @ajlobster
