#Manifesting
Cole said “If they don't know your dreams, then they can't shoot them down!” Cole is the GOAT, but I live my life a bit differently. All my dreams, aspirations, and goals are discussed and verbalized to everyone that’ll listen…at nauseam (and even to people who aren’t listening). I do not know if it’s manifesting or me trying to reassure myself but it seems to be working.
.
.
.
Every single day, I’m like “damn, I work at Mayo Clinic!’” And today, I’m thinking wow…I’m going to be an Associate Professor at Mayo Clinic.
.
.
.
I’ll bless y’all with a few more Cole lyrics:
“Mama, I ain’t done yet, sit back and watch your sun rise, kick back and know your son set”
.
“Anything’s possible, you gotta dream like you never seen obstacles.”
.
“I keep my head high, I got my wings to carry me. I don’t know freedom, I want my dreams to rescue me.”

“Like keep grinding boy, your life can change in one year/ And even when it's dark out, the sun is shining somewhere”
.
.
.
Imagine how much your life can change in 17 years. I’ve been in school and training for 17 years, in four different states. Let me repeat that for the people in the back: I’ve been in school and training for 17 years, in four different states — BA, MHS, PhD, Medical School, Residency, and Fellowship. July 30, 2021 at 7am, which happens to also be my birthday, officially marked the end of my training.
.
.
.
There is so much I can say but for now, I’ll just say I’m thankful for all the encouragement and support over the years!
.

Stay tuned, I have some exciting news to share next week! taken in Cleveland Clinic by @ajmilammdphd

Nah, I’M THE DOCTOR!
—
Thanks to @earlcampbellmd for starting #IAmYourDoctor. This is timely given the lack of diversity that exists within medicine, and STEM careers in general. I’ve had very similar encounters with patients and staff that many others have mentioned. I have included a couple examples below:
—
Unit Secretary: Who are you here to transport?
Me: I'm a doctor. —
Family member: Are you the nursing assistant for the day?
Me: *with my white coat on* Nope, I'm a doctor.
—
Patient: When will the doctor be here?
Me: I'm the doctor 😑 *after introducing myself as Dr. Milam*
—
The first time I had an encounter like this I was a bit shocked and upset. Unfortunately encounters similar to this occur so frequently you can become numb to it.
—
@drkristamarie describes the thoughts that run through your mind perfectly!
- I spent a decade+ in school (and I grabbed a PhD too)
- My white coat and jacket both have MD, PhD
- My badge has MD listed and I introduced myself as Dr. Milam
—
I’m loving this campaign as a way to highlight the diversity in medicine. The landscape is changing!!! However, we need to do more as a field to improve diversity so that these encounters no longer occur. —
Join the #IAmYourDoctor campaign to showcase the diversity in medicine and destroy the stereotypes of what a doctor should look like!

Adam J. Milam, MD, PhD, FASE, FAHA, FASA does not just wear a white coat—he wears his roots, his grit, and his purpose with pride. Born and raised in Baltimore, he has defied every expectation—and set his own instead.
Today, Dr. Milam is a Professor of Anesthesiology (pending administrative review) at the Johns Hopkins Medicine and a national leader in advancing health equity.
.
.
.
But titles and degrees only tell half the story.
Dr. Milam’s mission is crystal clear: tackle health disparities head-on. His research focuses on systemic barriers to care, representation in medicine, and building policies that drive equity. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed papers, written multiple book chapters, and delivered more than 100 invited presentations across the globe.

What happens when two anesthesiologists and one spine surgeon link up at @thewebbspace 🔥🔥

You get powerful conversations about medicine, leadership, and how physicians can use their platforms to educate and inspire!!

Dr. Adam Miliam @ajmilammdphd — a full professor at Mayo Clinic by age 38.

Dr. John Patton @docjp3 — Clinical Assistant Professor at UCLA.

And myself @drantoniowebbmd — an orthopedic spine surgeon here in San Antonio, focused on education, entrepreneurship, and impact.

When you put minds like this in one room, it’s not just about medicine — it’s about vision. How we can use our platforms, our voices, and our experiences to educate, inspire, and change the way people see healthcare!

At WebbSpace, that’s what it’s all about — creating, connecting, and building something bigger than ourselves 💯 by @ajmilammdphd

Chapter 38 was pretty good. All the things happened; the good, the bad, and the ugly. One of the highlights was closing on a house that I love back in February. Thankful for it all. Interested to see what’s in store for Chapter 39!!

Harvest Season -- It’s hard to find the words describe Friday. I’ll just say it was an amazing day surrounded by family, friends, and former teachers.
.
.
.
On Friday I was inducted into the Baltimore City College Hall of Fame. For the peeps that do not know, Baltimore City College (E. 1839) is the third oldest public high school in the country. The Hall of Fame includes greats like the Honorable Elijah Cummings, former Maryland Governor and Baltimore City Mayor William Donald Schaefer, Charles McCormick of McCormick & Company, countless US Representatives, entrepreneurs, and philanthropists.

“Ermias the prophet said it'd be a marathon”
.
.
This has truly been a marathon. Long nights full of anxiety, great nights with amazing people, good times, bad times, ugly times, sleepless nights, wins, losses, more wins. But (sermon right there)…I can now say I’m a Board Certified Anesthesiologist.
.
.
Thankful for an amazing village that lifted me up and “let me borrow” some of their faith. Thankful for my brothers @stevenbradleymd and @docjp3 who forced me to study/practice when I was only concerned with living my best life. Thankful for everyone that contributed to my training and education. Thankful for everyone that put up with me as my anxiety took over my life while waiting for these results. This victory is for the entire team.
