A dream many years in the making came true. @heatherplachta and I bought a home. And, it’s back in Michigan.

So, with that, my time calling Montana home is ending.

I came West for a job. The mountains, wild country, and a little adventure just happened to be included.

Heather came with me. She could’ve objected. Could’ve asked for something easier, closer, more familiar. Instead, she backed me, loved me through it, and gave me the freedom to live a pretty damn wild life out here.

I wouldn’t have lived half of it without her.

There were trout on the Madison and Gallatin. Miles spent chasing elk, deer, and bears. Heavy packs, Merriam’s gobbles, campfires under the stars, elk bugling through the night, and plenty of snapped branches I was convinced were grizzlies coming to eat my ass.

I found an MMA gym that tested the hell out of me. Ran a half marathon through the mountains. Ate steak. A shit load of steak.

Somewhere along the way, Montana stopped being where I moved for work and became home.

The West taught me to prepare, stay humble, get comfortable being uncomfortable, and that sometimes you can do everything right and still come up short.

Then you get up and do it again.

Now another dream is waiting back East. A home of our own. Family nearby. The same old woods that somehow never feel old. A new chapter I’m damn ready for.

Thankfully, this isn’t goodbye. Work and hopefully a hunt or two will bring me back.

I’m just not going to call Montana home anymore.

I came here for a job.

I’m leaving a different man.

And I owe a hell of a lot of that to the woman who came along for the ride.

That seems like a pretty damn fair trade. by @ajplachta

It wouldn’t be #NationalGoFishingDay without thinking back to the day after our wedding. Running on little sleep, a little hungover, and spending the entire day chasing kings and lakers.

I find myself reminiscing about those big-water days all the time. Some of my favorite memories are tied to a rod bent over and a horizon that never seemed to end. taken in Frankfort, Michigan by @ajplachta
