Introducing SNEAK PEEK SUNDAYS

Those who know me are aware of my back and forth relationship with social media, which is a big reason why my posting habits are so sporadic. The only reason yall are even getting this post is because I was stuck at home this week with covid 😅

I genuinely want to curate a relationship with social media that doesn't feel exhausting or daunting, but it's hard when your job demands so much of your time and energy. And when I want to focus what's left of that on writing, posting regularly often feels like a chore, and this page gets put on the back burner. And hey, maybe that's fine for now. Writing should be my priority anyway! But I started this page to get out of my comfort zone, to share my writing Journey and to make connections in the writing community. I'm not claiming to have cracked the code on how to do that yet, but I think this might be a good start.

So starting today, I will be sharing either a quote, line, or passage from my WIP that I'm proud of every Sunday. I know most of what I share won't be perfect, and that's okay! I'm still in the drafting stage, and that's what editing is for 😉

Hopefully I can continue to find cute ways to share my writing without psyching myself out 🫶🏽 by @ajw.author

Should've posted this last weekend lol oops 😅

For my birthday this year, all I wanted was to take myself on a writing retreat. So that's what I did! We found an adorable cabin, packed some s'mores, and had ourselves the cutest little fall getaway. My fiancée organized everything so I could just focus on writing 🥹

I've told you many times already but thank you @mariah.journey for making me feel so special 🥰

For me, it was when I realized how much I missed being creative.

As a kid I always brushed writing aside as just a hobby, something I could jump back into whenever I was bored with everything else. But, as I got older, I realized nothing else in my life allowed me to express my creativity as freely. In high school and college I had my heart set on becoming a chef, but even then I felt like something was missing.

It wasn't until two years ago, when I stumbled across the story plotting app that brought my current WIP to life, that I realized just how much I missed creating my own stories. That was when I realized there was a creative streak in me that I just couldn't ignore. 🧡 by @ajw.author

Hi friends! It's been awhile 🤠

My life has been pretty busy these last few months. Mostly with work, but a few other cool things have happened in my life that I wanted to share:

[ ] I was featured in the fall issue of my city's local magazine! Huge thank you to @insidecolumbiamagazine and @zolahecktv for the opportunity to share my writing Journey with the Columbia community!

[ ] My partner and I took a trip to LA to visit my brother and niece. We went to Disneyland, ate some good food, had some much needed family time, and...

[ ] Got engaged 😝💍 @mariah.journey I love you so much and I couldn't imagine doing life with anyone else. Thank you for choosing my goofy ass 🩵 #pennametolegalname

I'm still learning to navigate my relationship with social media so I can't promise my posting habits will be less sporadic. Hopefully this little life update is enough to satisfy yall in the meantime 🫡 thanks for sticking around! by @ajw.author

✨ Story Time ✨

The other night I dreamed up an alternate plotline for my novel and woke up with this overwhelming desire to change everything. So in typical writer fashion I did just that!

I was about 75% done with my first draft before this dream came and fucked my shit up 😂 At first I was planning to go ahead and finish, but then I thought: what's the point? Everything's about to change anyway! Might as well jump in while I have the inspiration.

And I'm so glad I did. I'm now more excited about this story than I've ever been, and I already have a pretty solid idea of how it's going to play out. And the more I flesh it out, the more I realize the old story wouldn't have worked anyway. It may have been good, maybe even great, but it wouldn't have been the story I wanted to tell. This new plot is more believable, more interesting, and more along the lines of what I was originally going for.

Am I thrilled to basically be starting over? Not really. It's hard not to feel like I just wasted the last six months. But I'm learning to embrace all parts of the writing process. I may not have 100% finished my first draft, but I still wrote it! It's still an accomplishment! It may not be complete, it may not be usable, but it helped me lay the groundwork for an even better story, and I'm grateful for that.

So, at 57,000 words, Draft 1 is complete!

Onto Draft 1.5 😆
