Rest is not something we earn. It’s a fundamental part of well-being. Many of us spend our days in a constant state of doing—moving from one task to the next without ever giving our nervous system a chance to fully settle.
Gentle yoga, acupuncture, and sound-bath each have growing bodies of research suggesting they can support relaxation and nervous system regulation. When thoughtfully combined, they can help create an environment where the body is better able to rest, recover, and restore.
This experience isn’t about “fixing” yourself. It’s about creating space for your body to do what it already knows how to do when given the opportunity to slow down.
We’d love to share this afternoon with you.🙏
Reserve your place through the link in our bio.

SkinPen is the first and only FDA-cleared microneedling device, rigorously tested for safety and results unlike the generic pens used at most places. Tiny needles create micro-injuries that trigger your skin’s natural collagen and elastin production. Smoother texture, faded acne scars, tighter skin, powered entirely by your own body.

The New York Times just published a piece exploring the biological link between acupuncture meridians and the fascia.

For 400 years, Western anatomy has recognized two systems that move fluid through the body: the cardiovascular system and the lymphatic system. A third has now been identified. It is called the interstitium, a continuous, body-wide network of fluid and connective tissue that runs through every organ, muscle, and layer of skin.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we have always described the body as a system of channels that move two circulating elements: qi and blood. Qi flows along twelve main pathways called meridians. For thousands of years, acupuncturists have inserted needles at specific points along these meridians to restore balance, relieve pain, and support healing.

Researchers are now finding that the interstitium may be the biological substrate of the meridian system. Studies have traced fluid moving through acupuncture points along recognized meridian routes, including the pericardium meridian, the same channel stimulated by the anti-nausea wristbands used on cruise ships. A senior researcher at Harvard Medical School recently confirmed it: “This truly has to do with acupuncture.”

This is what we mean when we talk about qi. It is the movement of fluid, signal, and information through the fascia. A real, mappable communication network that connects every part of the body to every other part.

Modern science is finally catching up to what acupuncture has always known.

One of the things we find ourselves recommending most often between appointments for nervous system regulation is box breathing.

It sounds simple, and it is. Four counts in, hold for four, four counts out, hold for four. Repeat for a few minutes. That’s it.

But what it does physiologically is worth understanding.

Box breathing directly stimulates the vagus nerve, the longest cranial nerve in the body and the primary pathway your nervous system uses to shift out of stress and into rest. When you slow and regulate your breath in this pattern, you increase heart rate variability and activate the parasympathetic nervous system. That’s the branch responsible for digestion, repair, immune function, and sleep.

Most of us are spending far too much time in sympathetic overdrive without realizing it. Box breathing is a useful tool you can use anywhere, in real time, to interrupt that pattern.

We recommend it to patients dealing with anxiety, sleep issues, tension, and anyone who feels like they can’t fully unwind. It works because it’s not just relaxation. It’s a direct input into the nervous system.

EMOTIONS OF THE LIVER SYSTEM

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, every organ carries an emotion and a soul. The Liver holds the emotion of Anger. It also holds the Hún, the Ethereal Soul: the part of consciousness that dreams at night, wanders, and seeks meaning beyond the physical body.

When your Liver is in harmony, the Hún rests. You feel inspired, decisive, and able to move through life with ease. But when Liver Qi stagnates from chronic stress, suppressed anger, or unprocessed emotion, you might notice:
→ Irritability and a short fuse
→ Difficulty making decisions
→ Waking between 1–3am with a racing mind
→ Vivid dreams, nightmares, or feeling disconnected from purpose
→ Tension in the jaw, neck, or shoulders
→ PMS, painful or irregular periods
→ Bloating and digestive discomfort
→ A feeling of tightness in the chest or gut after stress

The Hún speaks through your dreams. When it cannot settle, it is the Liver asking for support.

How to nourish your Liver and anchor the Hún:
→ Move your body daily. The Liver hates stagnation. Even a short walk shifts the energy.
→ Spend time in green, living spaces. Green is the Liver’s color in TCM.
→ Express anger safely. Internalized anger turns inward and creates stagnation. Let it move.
→ Keep a dream journal. The Hún speaks through dreams. Listening is medicine.
→ Eat sour, green foods. Leafy greens, goji berries, and green tea nourish Liver blood.
→ Sleep before 11pm. The Liver does its deepest work while you sleep.

The body and soul are not separate. When we tend to our emotions, we tend to our organs.

Acupuncture activates the parasympathetic nervous system. The rest and digest state. The one most of us rarely get to actually stay in. Our patients come in wired, running on stress hormones. Sleep disrupted. Digestion off. Anxious for no clear reason. We don’t often give our body true rest, the kind where it can actually repair. This is rest free from screens, free from distraction, just dropping into your body. Acupuncture helps to shift the body out of survival mode.

Ever wonder why we always feel your pulse? We are not checking your heart rate. We are reading texture, depth, strength, and rhythm across six positions that each map to a different organ system. It is one piece of a larger picture. Combined with tongue diagnosis and everything you share with us, it helps us understand your body as a whole.

In Chinese medicine, the back of the neck is one of the most important areas to protect. It’s often referred to as the “wind gate,” where external pathogens like wind and cold can enter the body.

This is especially relevant in spring. The weather shifts, temperatures fluctuate, and wind becomes more prevalent, making the body more vulnerable when this area is exposed.

This is often why the start of a cold shows up as:
– stiffness in the neck and upper back
– sensitivity to wind or chills
– headache at the base of the skull

Keeping your neck covered helps your body maintain its natural defenses and regulate temperature more effectively.

Stubborn knots or chronic upper back tension?

Acupuncture with electrical stimulation works by gently activating muscle fibers through a low-frequency current. It enhances traditional acupuncture by:

• releasing deep muscular tension
• increasing circulation
• reducing pain signals

We use it often for chronic neck and shoulder tightness that hasn’t responded to other treatments.
