Hi, I’m Akemi. 👋

Travel photographer, storyteller, and chronic chaser of good light.

I’ve spent years documenting the world — from remote landscapes to the people and cultures that make a place unforgettable. My approach is natural, unhurried, and a little bit adventurous. I want you to feel like yourself in front of my camera, not perform for it.

And yes — I do headshots. ✨

Whether you’re a travel creator building your brand, a speaker who needs a photo that actually reflects who you are, or a founder who’s been putting off updated photos for way too long — I’ve got you.

📍 See you at WITS? I’ll be offering portrait-style headshot sessions at this year’s Women in Travel Summit in partnership with @witsummit

📸 Real expressions, no stiff poses — just photos you’ll actually want to use.

Booking link in bio. Spots are limited, so grab yours early. 🔗

👋 Hi! I’m Akemi and it’s time to re-introduce myself!

📸 I’m your go to girl for travel inspiration, type 2 hiking & camping adventure, road trips and photography!

🧘🏻‍♀️ I also have a regular self care practice which includes forgiveness when I’m not doing everything “right,” going easy on myself, and following my heart 💫

💪🏼 I’m also a doctor of physical therapy (one of my day jobs!) and I’m currently rehabbing my own shoulder through a torn rotator cuff!

🤩 It’s so nice to meet you, I hope you enjoy yourself today, and don’t spend too much time on your screen! I’d love to hear more about you! Please introduce yourself in the captions!

🌟 I saw this trend on my feed and I love it, but I really believe in the power of words, AND I believe we can be ALL things, we don’t have to put ourselves in a box

📦 The point of this trend is to show you can do things even if you don’t fit an image, which is great! AND I think using the word “but” diminishes the power there is in defying stereotypes.

🌲 There is so much power in being yourself, and if you love being yourself outdoors, you ARE outdoorsy!

😊 How do you enjoy the outdoors, your way?

Good morning to myself on my 52nd year! ☀️

Can we normalize aging? 👵

I’ve been self-conscious about it since I turned 50

I thought I would be somewhere different by now

I surely didn’t expect to be in Uzbekistan! There’s the perks in being single with no kids

But also I thought I’d have a family, a home. The things they taught us are normal. It’s common to field the questions of are you married? Do you have kids? The weird looks and expressions of sorrow that I get after are what make it awkward.

Ultimately, I’m good with where I am. There is nothing wrong with me, or anyone who lives a different life than most. I’m fine with the choices I’ve made and I’m lucky to live a good life.

A question I’ve been asking people that I meet on my travels is “What has been a highlight… of your week, your travels, this city, etc.” or “Anything that’s been particularly interesting?” I’ve been loving the answers I get, and it usually sparks a conversation.

Whats been a highlight for you this week? taken in Ichan Kala, Old City of Khiva, Uzbekistan by @akemisadventures

3 Day Trek 🥾Lake Ala Kul to Altyn Arashan

🇰🇬 This is a 3 or 4 day hike from Karakol, on the east side of Lake Issyk Kul in Kyrgyzstan.

The scenery is gorgeous!

I love how the shots with the Insta360 could really capture the beauty of these mountains. (There’s a discount link in my bio ☝🏼)

Here’s more info about how I did it:

I took a shared taxi to the first bridge, so from there to the first bridge it’s about 10-11 miles, about 1000m ascending.

Day 2 is brutal and basically straight up and straight down. Be ready with hiking poles and lots of snacks! We got lucky because the weather was amazing. It took me 12 hours though, I’m a slow hiker and I stop and take pictures. The ascent is around 1000m, and the descent is 1300-1400m.

Day 3 is around 11 miles, through rolling hills and mostly on a rough bumpy road, so you’ll be dodging horses and 4x4 vehicles. You can also hitch a ride with one of them if you don’t want to walk!

I stayed at Kerben Yurt Camp the first night, and Hotel Arashan the second night. You can book ahead through booking.com, or simply show up- there are so many camps and hotels there will probably be a space.

You can buy water from the yurt camps, or you can bring Aquatabs and a filter- I used Aquatabs and water from the river. Just go upstream as much as you can from where people and livestock are.

It was cold at night, and at the top! The highest altitude is 3900 m at the top of the Ala Kul Pass.

If I could do it again, I would do it in 4 days instead of 3, because Day 2 is really long and very steep- it would have been nice to break it up.

Do you want to get a cost breakdown? Or a packing list? Let me know in the comments! taken in Ala-Kul Lake by @akemisadventures

Did you know about the World Nomad Games?

It’s the heart and soul of nomadic culture, welcoming countries from around the world to meet and compete, collaborate and learn from each other. It’s the Silk Road in real life. It’s ancient and modern.

I’m so grateful to have gotten the chance to experience this!
