I’m all for optimism and positivity, but far too often, especially in the wellness space, there is an aversion to having the tough conversations and hard moments shared. I’ll take real, authentic, and vulnerable over a perfectly published life any day. I’m happy to see this shift happening in real time here.

Some days I feel exactly aligned with the work. Other days I’m standing in the middle of it wondering if I’m doing anything at all.

Leadership, and the years of inner work, didn’t make that uncertainty go away. It just taught me how to walk through it without losing myself in the process.

I know it means I have to protect what I carry, and stay quieter with what I put out - even while I’m out here leading, building, and showing up fully, when I feel things so deeply.

And it always happens, without fail - right as I start to doubt it all, I get a little nugget from the universe, telling me to keep going, keep at it, it *is* meaningful.

In this world that’s constantly pulling us toward things, places, people that are shinier, bigger, louder - I always come back to my why.

→ Sharing sound and mindfulness practices to bring more presence and peace to ourselves. Just as so many did for me when I was living through years of wild stress and burnout.

My biggest piece of advice to keep yourself grounded - answer this:
✍🏽 What is your why that keeps you going?

Sending you lots of love.

Have you ever visited a place you knew nothing about… and left wondering why more people aren’t talking about it?

That was Tennessee Overhill for me.

We spent three days exploring Polk, McMinn, and Monroe counties, and every day looked completely different. Waterfalls, kayaking, wine tasting, small towns, museums, really good food, and yes… karaoke. 😂

If you’re looking for a long weekend getaway that’s a little different, I hope this itinerary gives you some ideas.

Comment OVERHILL and I’ll send you my full 3 day itinerary.

And if you love discovering underrated destinations, follow @poorinaprivateplane. I’m always sharing places that deserve a spot on your travel list.

WITS wrap, what a whirlwind 🤘🏼💫

Walked away from this all-women’s conference with my cup completely full. Reconnected with old friends, made incredible new ones, learned a ton, and got to fall in love with Chattanooga TN along the way…what a gorgeous, underrated little city.

There’s something so special about a room full of women in travel who genuinely want to see each other win. No competition, just collaboration. I left every session and every dinner table conversation feeling more inspired than the last 🥰 Huge thank you to @witsummit and @visitchatt for putting together such an incredible few days.

If you’re a creator, entrepreneur, or travel-obsessed woman looking for your people - WITS is it. Go next year, you won’t regret it. And it’s in Ann Arbor, so another midwestern destination worth checking out.

And if you’re craving that same energy IRL with a group of women, join me on a @wildworldtours

The Tennessee Overhill is the road trip you didn’t know you needed. 🏔️ Thanks to @tennesseeoverhill for hosting me!

Tucked into the southeast corner of the state across McMinn, Monroe, and Polk counties—about an hour from both Chattanooga and Knoxville—it’s waterfalls, mountain rivers, small-town diners, Cherokee history, and some of the best southern food around, without the Smoky Mountain crowds.

I mapped out the perfect 4-day itinerary so you can do it all without the guesswork: where to stay, what to eat, and the spots worth slowing down for.

Save this for your next Southern road trip, and tap the link in my bio for the full Tennessee Overhill itinerary.

✌️Hi! I’m Kari, and it’s time I personalize this account a bit by re-introducing myself.

I’m your go-to guide for Tennessee outdoor adventures and atypical family destinations and experiences. But I’m also just a woman obsessed with travel and finding ways to fit it into my life with kids and a full-time job. Here, my goal is to:

✅ Inspire you to seek travel and adventure amidst your busy everyday lives.
✅ Guide you to places you wouldn’t usually consider for a family trip.
✅ Tell the deeper stories of people and places, more than just a highlight reel.

As a public school librarian, I’m a huge advocate of civil rights, strong communities, and equitable access to information, and I believe in the power of stories to bring a greater sense of compassion and commonality to the human experience.

You won’t usually find me in front of the camera, but just so you know more about me: I’m a native Nashvillian who spent 9 formative years living in NYC; I’m an outgoing introvert with a dry sense of humor; I often quote movies or TV shows; I’m obsessed with Beyoncé; and I always have a book with me.

Whether you’re here for TN state parks, family travel, or just pretty pictures, I’m glad we found
each other!

And tell me in the comments: What brought you here?

(📸 And mad photo props to @akemisadventures for the first acceptable professional pic I’ve ever had taken! ❤️)

EXT. SMALL TOWN IN MOUNTAIN FOG - MORNING

You can hardly see the mountains for the fog that has descended on town. The day promises adventure, but not yet—now all you can manage is a slow cup of coffee, a pastry, the familiar “Good mornings” and pleasantries that define small-town charm. You imagine this as your everyday routine, and even if it’s not realistic, you can certainly relax into this pace for the next few days.

A few of my favorite moments from Tennessee Overhill Country 💚
🌲 Cherokee National Forest
Some of my favorite memories from the trip were spent surrounded by the rivers, waterfalls, and mountain scenery of Cherokee National Forest. Whether we were stopping at overlooks, visiting Bald River Falls, or simply taking in the peaceful sounds of rushing water, it was a reminder of how much natural beauty exists beyond Tennessee’s most famous destinations.
🪶 Sequoyah Birthplace Museum
One of the most meaningful stops was the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum. Sequoyah’s story is one of determination and resilience. Despite never learning to read or write in English, he spent more than a decade developing the Cherokee syllabary, a writing system that gave the Cherokee Nation a way to preserve and communicate their language in written form. His work dramatically increased literacy among the Cherokee people and remains one of the most significant achievements in Indigenous history. Walking through the museum was a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving language, culture, and identity.
🍷 Tsali Notch Vineyard
Tsali Notch Vineyard is a family-owned winery overlooking the foothills of the Appalachians, and it was the perfect place to slow down, enjoy local wines, and appreciate the landscape that makes this region so special.
🎨Sweetwater Murals
Downtown Sweetwater surprised me with its vibrant mural scene. Public art has a way of bringing communities to life, and each mural added color, personality, and a sense of place while exploring the town’s historic streets.
🚲 Eureka Trail
The Eureka Trail offered a different perspective on the region. This 11-mile rail trail follows a former railroad corridor and provides an easy, scenic ride through the countryside. It was a peaceful way to experience the outdoors and appreciate the slower pace of life that defines so much of Tennessee Overhill Country.
🧡The People
As much as I enjoyed the destinations, one of the best parts of this FAM trip was connecting with the incredible women creators and bloggers featured in the last photo.

Give these ladies a follow and add Tennessee’s Overhill region to your U.S. bucket list!

My camera after one of my favorite travel conferences 💕 @witsummit hosted by @sheswanderful in @visitchatt ✨

#witschatt #witschattanooga

I stayed at the Chattanoogan Hotel, where the conference was hosted ✨ staying at the conference hotel makes my days feel a little less chaotic

@travelgov was there sharing about updates to STEP, safe traveler announcements, passport renewals, and had a spot set up to take passport photos with good lighting! They’ve convinced me to do the digital passport renewal, it seems like a super smooth process

At WITS they always have an exhibitor hall with sponsors that you can network with and even pitch to get partnerships. I chatted with @efultimatebreak about their group trips and affiliate program and they gave me the cutest bag!

I love seeing friends and making new ones at WITS 💕 having creator friends has changed my life and my business

The public art around Chattanooga 😍😍

The library had art and native plants out front 😍

We met at @honeyseedchatt for brunch! This was the 2AM sandwich and the tater tots and they were both delicious!!

Girlies who brunch together >>>>

This was the cutest aesthetic coffee shop 💕 the drinks and pastries were next level. I’m gonna dream about that strawberry donut 🍓

@meganarabiantravels and I went for coffee and had such a wonderful time ☕️ 😊 here’s hoping we will have more coffee dates this year 🤭

@escentialthings hosted a candle making workshop for us!!

One thing about me.. I do love a craft 🎨🖼️

We even decorated the little labels to go on the front. I mixed like 3 different scents and added a little glitter ✨

All of the @sheswanderful hub leaders at @witsummit attended the workshop to network. I always have such a great time with these ladies 🫶

A look inside my room @thechattanooganhotel ✨ I slept so well there

I went to @goodmancoffeeroasters with my friend @staying_afloat_ who has a BOOK COMING OUT THIS FALL!! So proud and excited for her! ✨

I’m serious, if we took selfies send them to me!! 😂

🔥 Temps are climbing and this might be the simplest summer hack you’re not using…

Soak your DryFox towel, wring it out, and drape it around your neck for instant cooling on hikes, road trips, camp days, festivals, beach days, and desert adventures.

Our quick-drying towels stay lightweight, pack down small, and are ready whenever the heat decides to show off. ☀️💦

What’s your favorite way to stay cool when summer turns up the heat?
