12 centuries later these marvels from the largest religious complex on Earth still remain.

Photo 1 - No two devatas are exactly alike. Many scholars and researchers theorize that Angkor Wat may have been built to honor and glorify feminine principles rather than just serving as a traditional tomb or standard religious temple.

1st photo, Hanuman is frequently depicted in Khmer temple art because the Rāmāyaṇa (called the Reamker in Cambodia) became deeply woven into Khmer culture.

2nd photo, the Devatās are divine female guardians found throughout the temples. Of the over 1500 unique female carvings found in Angkor Wat, no two are exactly alike.

Last year around this time I was living in the Moroccan capital city of Rabat, in the Kasbah Oudaya, a lot of good memories, my apologies to that one chic who waited 2 hours in the Kasbah for me, it was cool cause the old Medina was right across the street and the tourism is far less extreme here than other coastal cities. I’ll probably live there again someday…it was cool cause I even had a live in maid/chef/personal assistant named S**** at the time, the simple things…
