Seeds planted as part of the Ceremony of the Seed (across the Staffordshire Moorlands) now in bloom! These ones were planted by my wonderful niece and nephew 😍 the flower blooms are looking bright, happy and fabulous in this sunshine! ☀️ These events were part of #NatureInYourNeighbourhood helping to make local greenspaces more wild and magical ✨ ... and more biodiverse and resilient to changes in our climate, better for nature and communities 💚 can you spot the pollinators? 🪰

Global BirdFair 2026 ☀️ @generationnaturestories with x2 podcasts on the Whinchat podcasting stage and a workshop all about the awesomeness of nature groups in The Hub (thank you @osprey_leadership_foundation )

The weekend involved birdwatching (so many young folk in a bird hide!) and attempting to count the cormorants on a decaying tree (controversy between 38 to 46?!)

A wicked quiz (points 40.5), thank you Tallulah, @josh.wildlife2 and Kevin for your wisdom 🙏

The nature nerd disco followed by England winning at football @mr.alexanderwood

It was ace to see everyone and be part of the BirdFair fun 💚

Spring seasonal vegetation survey at the Barnfields site with the wonderful @ladderedgecountryparkworkparty

Fantastic dead hedge creation and bluebells planted in the wood area. Lots of lesser celendine and cuckoo flower! Although a bit too cold for pollinators.

Lots of exciting plans for the greenspace in the upcoming months so if you're near the area please do get involved 🌱💚

Activities are in full bloom with spring seasonal surveys and the Ceremony of the Seed outdoor arts events! An exciting time to be in the Staffordshire Moorlands.

Fantastic start to the month with surveys at Ball Haye Green (Haregate, Leek), Hollington Rd, Tean and Cecilly Brook (Cheadle). Thank you to Friends of Cecilly Brook and Hales Hall Pool, Great Wood Eco Warriors and the Leek Town Council green space team and friends!

Nature In Your Neighbourhood: Lab Edition
Lab Tales from Keele University Woodlands Lab

Busy bee time in the Labs analysing soil samples taken as part of the #NatureInYourNeighbourhood project looking at soil pH, organic content, composition and more! 🐝🪱

It's my first time being in the Labs for a while so there was a fair amount of imposter syndrome and "how does this work" thinking 🤔 although after a few sessions it's getting there and gathering results! Big shout out to the wonderful Keele Lab Technicians - Gwyn, Luke, Jenny and Rich 🙌 thank you!

Looking forward to seeing how our citizen science sampling at the sites compares to these results.

Please enjoy some photos of the patterns that the silt and clay have made in the sink after being wet sieved (the sink has a soil catch on it so it won't block the drains 💧).
