Global Birdfair we miss you! Generation Nature is all about telling powerful, relatable stories, creating hope, and getting other young people involved in nature. Here’s a story of a wonderful weekend that left us filled with warmth, love and laughter: Three weeks ago we set up camp in a baking hot field, ready for a whirlwind of a weekend with two podcasts on the @swarovskioptik_birding Whinchat stage, and a workshop on building communities at the @osprey_leadership_foundation hub. Before it had even officially begun, we’d already made a few new nature friends who joined us for board games, as well as having the joy of spending time with some of our ‘old’ ones! The community at Birdfair is what makes it so special. On day one, we were lucky enough to have Jon Mason on our podcast, who kindly spent his birthday talking with us about birding across the generations - but no spoilers! Keep your eye (or ears) out for season two of the Generation Nature podcast. The youth nature community at Birdfair is growing every year. We joined many of our talented friends for their workshops and talks in the Hub, and learnt from the boundless expertise at birdfair. Our Friday would not have been complete without a nature walk with @senizdoesnature, and some time in a bird hide. On Saturday we hosted a workshop in the wonderful Hub, sharing with others how we can build successful communities in the nature space, something we all need now more than ever. It was a packed tent, and we felt so delighted that so many people wanted to come together as a nature community. There was a fantastic disco, featuring @mrryanjdalton, @meganmccubbinwild, @lucy_lapwing, @daisycubittwild , @leifbersweden and Max’s home grown cucumber/microphone, and a few people running to and from the dance tent to the football tent! On Sunday, we had our final podcast of the weekend, talking frankly and honestly about the stigmas that are still present around environmentalism, even today. It was a bittersweet day, as we were headed homeward, but it is comforting to know that these passionate nature lovers that made our weekend so joyful are out making the world a better place. See you next year! 🍄🎙️

Amazing to attend my first BirdFair 2026! (About a week ago) It was amazing to meet members of @generationnaturestories in real life and hang out, as well as many people from across the youth nature sector and more. The nature community are all so welcoming people, and I thank everyone for an amazing weekend! You are all amazing people! I really enjoyed being part of a panel on Saturday in @osprey_leadership_foundation 's The Hub, discussing our journey to where we are now as Generation Nature, followed by a workshop about how to create a youth network and community. Our table were already involved in various communities, so finding like-minded people, then working on a goal to involve others was in the conversation. Our Sunday Podcast involving discussing Social Stigma and Nature went smoothly (even if we were moderately tired from the nature nerds disco the night before), I enjoyed our conversation, as well as meeting the amazing Dr Mya-Rose Craig who was listening in! BirdFair required a lot of me managing my needs when needed, like taking time out, wearing ear defenders, and having my cuddly orangutan to hand, as festivals can be very overwhelming spaces as a neurodivergent person. However, support from friends was immense and I had a really good time. Although a global festival primarily about protecting birds with those of all ages from all over the world, it provided a space for those in the youth environmental space to relate and socialise with each other, to strengthen bonds to carry on fighting for a more equitable world for people and nature. After this experience, I feel more revitalised on a mission to try to engage and reach others into nature, as those who may need it the most may still have access to it the least. When more of us care for and love nature, the more we will start to feel our place to protect it, and our climate. I wholly encourage anyone reading this to get involved in the nature space, or if not, enjoy nature quietly and have nature in mind in whatever interests or rebuilds you. Wandering where to start? Listen to the Generation Nature Podcast on Spotify or any podcast platform! (Link in my bio - My ep coming Season 2)

🐦‍⬛ Birdfair ‘26! 🐤 Chaotic, brilliant, eventful in more ways than one, crazy, wonderful and at times mildly delirious, but the most awesome weekend with incredible friends 💚 I say this every year but @global_birdfair just keeps getting better. For its doubters, it is so much more than the holidays and the travel - we come for the people above all (and stay for the Saturday night disco 😁) This year ft: 🎙️ Many tired but fun talks including a @generationnaturestories live episode on the stigma around nature the morning after the disco... 📱 An @rspb workshop on creating engaging social media characters - definitely not planned in the campsite the night before 🤫 🙋 The Birdfair Legends vs Next Generation quiz panel (guess which side we were on) valiantly improvised despite technical issues by the @osprey_leadership_foundation team 🙈 A slightly chaotic Generation Nature panel on finding community where we spent half the time discussing how we had to breach GDPR to start the project oops 🪶 Infiltrating the ranks of a certain bird charity youth team who were definitely not in fact at Birdfair (and not at all rubbing in our expenses being covered by a certain other bird charity... thank you @bethan_goddard for being a great receipt model 🤭) 🥒 What has been officially coined as the cucumber saga... @maximossnature ✍️ @em_loves_nature’s writing workshop - can’t wait for the *camp* soon 🐦 @intothewildpod #NatureRoom101 Live - still the best show at Birdfair, with some unexpected turns this year (none of us will see woodpigeons the same way again) 🎥 Being filmed for a documentary on intergenerational birding! 📖 An AMAZING talk about @lucy_lapwing’s new book, Love is a Toad 🐸 🏞️ The Friday night bird walk, exploring Rutland Water and mostly forgetting to look at birds because of chatting too much 🏕️ Camping with the best crew 🥷 A game of Blood on the Clocktower we were so engrossed in that @kaewrennwild nearly got abandoned at the station 🎉 And of course, the party - the beating heart of Birdfair, DJd by the wonderful @mrryanjdalton, @meganmccubbinwild, @lucy_lapwing and @leifbersweden 💚 Here’s to next year, Birdfair ☺️

A wicked quiz (points 40.5), thank you Tallulah, @josh.wildlife2 and Kevin for your wisdom 🙏 The nature nerd disco followed by England winning at football @mr.alexanderwood It was ace to see everyone and be part of the BirdFair fun 💚 Twassss awesome 😎 more to come via Generation Nature!
