I'm pleased to share that I've been named a 2026 California Arts Council Emerging Artist Fellow. I'm deeply honored to receive this recognition from the state that's given me so much throughout my life, and grateful for the faith placed in my continued photographic exploration of California and the West.

Thank you to @calartscouncil and @laperformancepractice for your support. taken in Los Angeles, California by @alanlunatorres

More pics from our shoot the other day. I’ve been feeling a little down lately about my work and where it sits in the world, but I guess that's how it goes. taken in Los Angeles, California by @alanlunatorres

Had Jason take some portraits of me for an upcoming announcement I'm excited to soon share with you all. I will say, it’s a little uncanny seeing myself looked at so closely, being that I'm usually the one behind the big camera. taken in Los Angeles, California by @alanlunatorres

From "Southwestern Freeway Archaeologies", 2026.

A survey of Phoenix’s freeway architecture, where generalized, Indigenous-coded Southwestern motifs have been abstracted through the anonymous language of state design and transportation bureaucracy. Photographed from a moving car, retaining walls, overpasses, and sound barriers become the ceremonial architecture of an ancient civilization that never existed, a fictive monumental past already carrying the image of its own ruin. taken in Phoenix, Arizona by @alanlunatorres

From the ongoing series Photoland: West Coast Modernism, pigment print from digital capture on baryta, 2026.

Part of a larger examination of photographic history through the simulated environments of Disneyland, West Coast Modernism treats the park’s manufactured landscapes with the formal seriousness of West Coast modernist photography. Rather than exposing the scenery as artificial, the pictures ask whether photographic revelation and modernist transcendence, in the tradition of Weston, Adams, and White, remain possible once both the landscape and the photographic traditions through which we understand it have passed through tourism, mass media, and corporate design before arriving in front of the camera. taken in Disneyland by @alanlunatorres

From the ongoing series "Museum Glass", pigment print on uncoated paper, 2026.

Whereupon I visited the LACMA galleries and took pictures of their current exhibits of pre-Columbian and colonial Mexican antiquities through the reflective surface of their cases and vitrines. The images were made in a single moment of photographic capture without the use of multiple exposures or digitally layered images. by @alanlunatorres
