ARTFORUM! 🎉
A huge congratulations to Alan Luna on the incredible review of his first-ever solo exhibition, Modernisisimo, written by Joseph Daniel Valencia for Artforum.

Modernisisimo marked the inaugural exhibition of La Plaza Projects, and we couldn’t be more proud to see this work recognized and celebrated. Watching the fruits of our labor resonate beyond our walls is truly special.

Thank you, Joseph and Artforum, for the thoughtful review. And thank you to everyone who came out to experience the show—and to all who continue to support what we’re building.

We have several events planned for the near future and the months ahead. Stay tuned—announcements coming soon. ✨

Join us next Thursday, June 1 from 7–9 PM for the opening celebration of "Of Stars, Seeds, and Soil." At 7:30, Jackie Amezquita (@jackieamezquita) and LaRissa Rogers (@larissa_rogers) will perform "attending to the wound: a wake, a waiting, a witnessing," activating their installation in the exhibtion.

Curated by Joy A. Anderson (@majikalnature) and Robin Garcia (@rgevolution1), "Of Seed, Soil, and Stars: Meditations on Land, Body, Resistance, and Regeneration” brings together six interdisciplinary artists who collaborate with earth and communities, using soil, rainwater, and natural pigments as material. Together, their work explores the relationships between the land and body and between migration and memory. The exhibition asks, “How does the impact of colonial extractive processes and resulting diasporic related traumas move us towards reimagining and recreating right relationship with lands and bodies?”

Featuring works by Jackie Amézquita (@jackieamezquita), Sarita Doe (@saritadoe), Jess Gudiel (@spider_womans_granddaughter), JEM (@_messtiza_), LaRissa Rogers (@larissa_rogers), and a closing performance by Maria Maea (@maeamaria).

New exhibition now open: 'AND WE WILL SING IN THE TALL GRASS AGAIN: postcolonial futurities at the end of gender’.

To be fluid not only in gender but in our artistic mediums 🎞 is something I cherish deeply in my collaborations with @allthatjasss 🌱💕. Our photographs + portraits of each other are up now at @thefrontartecultura gallery in San Ysidro as part of a beautiful intentional group exhibition curated by @alanlunatorres & julieechoo 💕- Up until September 1st 2021.

'AND WE WILL SING...' proposes a queer counter-narrative that conjures portals towards decolonial futures, gender apocalypse, and first and foremost, a glimpse at the possibilities between borders / binaries.
