Yesterday was a day of many firsts.
Our first collaboration with an up and coming bar in Toronto. @barromatoronto
Our first time hosting an open-air patio event.
Our first experience cooking, plating, and facilitating a workshop for 16 incredible guests.
And our first time working out of a bustling commercial kitchen.

What followed was an afternoon filled with big laughs, lively chatter, heartfelt conversations, and that unmistakable Toronto summer warmth.

There is a Bengali word I love - abdaar. It’s means having a place where your request will be met with care. That’s what I want Pichhutaaney to feel like.

In the days leading up to my first Tasting Night, my home felt like a quiet storm of preparation, the kind that hums with equal parts excitement and tenderness. Pots simmered a little longer than usual, spices were toasted with more intention, and every plate, candle, and table setting was placed with care. I found myself returning again and again to memories of kitchens I grew up in.

And when the evening finally arrived, it felt like everything settled into place. The room filled with curious diners, soft laughter, generous conversations, and that unmistakable pause people take when a dish reminds them of somewhere they once lived, or someone they once loved.
It was a great night, not because everything went exactly as planned, but because it felt honest, intimate, and beautifully human.

Tasting Nights with Pichhutaaney is rooted in the food rituals of my childhood. I grew up hovering near the kitchen, watching my grandmom cook while I waited impatiently for that first bite straight off the stove, far too hot to handle but impossible to resist. And it wasn’t just us kids; even the adults would wander in, tasting, suggesting, nudging the dish in their own direction.
Dinner always began long before dinner.
Those moments were pure magic! Laughter, chaos, quick adjustments, fiercely held opinions, and the kind of togetherness that only happens when many hands and many memories shape a meal.
This first tasting night is an ode to that world!
To shared bites, early tastes, noisy kitchens, and the joy of food evolving in real time with flavors of BENGAL ♥️

Introducing my first-ever Tasting Night!
A small table, a handful of curious diners, and a 4-course journey shaped by nostalgia, boldness, and a little bit of wonder.
These evenings are where new dishes take their first breath, where stories flow easily, and where community forms quietly, beautifully, one plate at a time.

The dishes will be inspired from south asian recipes specifically from the region in India I come from ( West Bengal, India)
